All the reviews I've read were very positive for these. I had a pair of the older SM450's as rear back speakers and they did a great job, and were matched to the other drivers in my BP 7000/7001 surround set up.If using these for mains in a 2 channel set up, consider Emotiva's T1's for a couple of hundred more as well.

They would be for mains with an Outlaw sub, I have seen most reviews are great, just trying to get feeds from this forum, thanks.

Although my def techs are older, they have served me very well. I am still not in the market for new speakers. I have recommended DefTech to a couple of friends, though not that model. They have been happy as well. Reviews appear positive. Good luck with your choice.

Hey Gus, only experience I have with DefTech is their center channel I'm using in the upstairs 5.1 room. It's a very well built center that has seen many hours of dependable use but I can't comment on any of their other speakers as I have not heard them other than sound rooms in Magnolia etc. From memory they sounded very good for their price point but I'm sorry I can't give you more than that.
I do have a full 5.1 set of Paradigm Monitor 9s I've been meaning to sell. I'd be glad to sell pieces separately. They have seen less than 10 hours since I bought them new ~4 years ago and are mint with all original boxes, manuals etc. Scott

I believe Boomzilla had the SM65s and liked them quite well.

The SM65s DO sound pretty great - BUT - they don't fresh out of the box. It takes a LONG time for them to break in. As they do, the treble (somewhat bright, when new) calms down and the midrange (not very open, when new) blooms. The reviews I've read were more positive about the SM55s than the SM65s, so maybe that's the route to go.
Their passive radiator DOES put out a surprising amount of bass, too!

I would have the SM55 play all day and night for a couple of days at low volume, will it take longer? I will not be in a rush....

Anyone? ?? Kind of irrelevant I guess, but I have wound up with 4 pairs of the Def Tech AW 6500 outdoor speakers... and they have been a big success, so I have a positive outlook but no experience beyond this model...

Put the two speakers face-to-face & wire them out of phase (i.e. the positive speaker wire goes to the red terminal on one speaker, and to the black terminal on the other). Then play them LOUDLY for two days straight (since the two are out of phase, they'll mostly cancel out & you should hear little). Then try a serious audition.

I have Def Tech outdoor speakers also, and in addition to sounding great - Def Tech as a company has been GREAT on customer service. Given the rigors of outdoor service, I have had a couple failures - but they handled each so well.

Given the rigors of outdoor service, I have had a couple failures - but they handled each so well. Mark +1. As for failures, the amp in one of my speakers went out about 7-1/2 years after purchasing. The speaker electronics warranty was 5 years. Guess what? Def Tech not only replaced the physical amp unit for free, they also paid for my local distributor's labor! Net cost to me, FREE. 2-1/2 years after the warranty ran out! I have bought a few accessory type things from them direct and they offered nothing but help, and in one case, a large discount "just because". As for other help, their tech guys have gone totally our of their way to help me via phone calls and e-mail conversations. The last time they even sent me ceiling speaker location information (I didn't ask for) after a tech and I got done discussing Atmos speakers. So far from my direct experience I have nothing but great things to say about Def Tech. Emotiva is not the only company in this business offering great customer service and great bang for the buck products.
