This morning I stopped into my local Best Buy to replace the ailing cassette adapter in my 02 Durango.
Whilst there I asked if they were demonstrating ATMOS and they said absolutely, so why not??
A fellow took me to the “Magnolia Room” and popped in their ATMOS demo disc.
The poor guy got so flustered 😩I felt bad for him....I could tell a subwoofer or two were working along with some sound, but no dialog at all just lips 👄 moving.
Maybe next time.

You’re not missing much. Most movies don’t have any worthwhile dialog anyway. As long as things go boom the world is happy. Lol.
We don’t have “magnolia” here so I don’t know how much effort they put into their demo installs. But any stores I’ve been to didn’t have it set up in any fashion that would wow me. Once I heard it in a buddies house I was convinced I needed atmos. I installed my speakers up inside my ceiling and haven’t looked back. Added just that much more immersion in my films.

Bill Best Buy is so hit or miss. We have a few Mangolias here in Houston with sales guys that are really good. They keep those demo rooms running and in pretty good shape. There are other BB’s like the one you described where it’s kinda exciting to get the TVs turned to the correct source. |

Sorry... I started this thread at the train 🚂 station, then my bride 👰 pulled in before I finished the point!
ATMOS has been around for a good five years or so, yet it’s still not easy to just walk in someplace and REALLY HEAR 👂 what all the fuss is about.
What happened with me today was pretty much how I expected an unannounced visit for an ATMOS demo. would go.
In fairness to that store, They had both upward firing, and ceiling speakers installed.....I just caught them off guard. On appointment, the right guy to work things can be around.
I remain skeptical about the future of this....for my part, I’m not anxious to dump the heart of my system (processor) in order to obtain it.

Bill I doubt it will ever get to the point that you can just walk into an outlet store and hear a proper atmos setup. Perhaps you could reach out to different forum members in your area and see if they would be willing to demo their systems for you. No need to dump your processor, the atmos update is just around the corner.. Any day now. |

Same thing happened to me. Took me to this fully automated room where the projector comes out of the wall or something. And then all I heard was the sub.

I have heard some amazing Atmos demos.
However, I don’t expect anything from Best Buy, just like I don’t expect great service from a Chinese carry-out 😊.

There’s 12 theatres/screens inside each main theatre. (4-5 of which are atmos)
My bad I was counting screens.
And there is another massive cineplex under construction in the se corner of the city.
Either way, even my hick city with our sled dogs, igloos and what used be world famous stampede had each quadrant of the city covered for your atmos needs.
