So the speakers I bought this weekend aren't Polk SD2 or SD2a models, as I thought. Instead, they're SD-1s. They look like the ones above, except that mine have horizontal tweeters, not vertical ones. I have absolutely NO idea what these might be worth. The cosmetic shape is "OK," with one of the bottom front trim pieces missing and minor gouges in the veneer. But all the drivers work. An stupid wild-a*s guesses? (SWAGs) Thanks kindly - Boom

Well horizontal tweeters indicate you have the first version of the SD1's. Apparently there were different variations with differing quality. I suggest google SD-1 to figure out which model you have first.

Actually you may have got the SDa-2. You'd be surprised. There's variations.

The name plates on the back of the speakers say "SD-1."

Speaking of saying, SWAG is 'stuff we all get', whereas WAG is 'wild-aardvark guess', or some such. If you mean the former, YAAAAAH! If you mean something else, I'm all ears, just saying.

Good find! The model you have is the Polk SDA-1B. See the image below. It's a scan from Polk's catalog from around 1984. I can't find an actual date on the catalog, but I got it when I purchased my Polk SDA-SRS2 speakers around that time (new). I still have them...listening to them at this very moment...after picking up my first piece of Emotiva gear (XSP-1, Gen 2) over the weekend. I replaced a tweeter in the Polks about 25 years ago, otherwise they have been flawless for more than 3 decades. Attachment Deleted

Glad your here, theres plenty of knowledgeable friendly folks around here. Glad your now one of them. Time for a big glass of EmoBlue to get you started properly. 😁

Oops...I just noticed he said his tweeters are in a horizontal configuration...not vertical as in his photo. So they may be an earlier version as someone noted...SDA-1A?
And thanks for the welcome.

How do they sound? A friend had some Polks in the SD1/SD2 lineup...can't recall which. But, they sounded great. He replaced them with some pricey newer speakers and...they didn't live up to the Polks (IMHO). Polk made some good stuff back then.

Polk SDA-1A, manufactured 1985-86: polksda.com/ebay/5757566518_SDA1A.pdfI also found "Speaker Placement Guidelines" dated 11/85 that I received with my SDA SRS2 speakers, so I must have purchased them in 1986. Up until last weekend, I always used Adcom amps and pre-amps with the Polks. After listening to the impressive new XSP-1 G2, I'm really thinking about replacing my original Adcom GFA-555 (purchased in 1986 and still running strong) with an Emotiva amp...perhaps the XPA-2?

In process industries engineering SWAG is the acronym for "Stupid Wild A*s Guess." Here are the actual photos of my speakers:

I've put them on the local CraigsList for <$200. They may be good, but they're also not what I need just now...

I suspect that one has some internal damage - When I move the cabinet I hear something loose clunking inside (never a good sound). Not wanting to bother taking them apart to investigate, I plan to sell them "as is." I'll keep slowly dropping the price until someone wants them. They aren't for me.

"As Is" without knowing they work? I wouldn't give you more than $20 for them.
