hello,
I'm planning on getting an XPA3, Question is which RCA cables to get? Audioquest is over priced and almost everything is sold in pairs. I do have a nice set of Monster R/B/G RCA that were on the cable box before it went to HDMI. This seams like my best option as a three channel amp would need the three RCA. Or is there a good single cable I can get.

Call them about your options for a 3 channel RCA www.bluejeanscable.com/store/audio/index.htmAnother option is a XLR to RCA 3-channel snake. You might need to get 3 XLR to RCA adapters on one end depending on your system. Or have ProAudioLA make you some (highly recommended). www.proaudiola.com/category-s/812.htm

mrloren You will find that most here don't spend a lot on cables. Some do, but most tend to believe that cables don't really make a big difference as long as they are not worn/torn/broken. I am one of those folks. I have, at times, been short of cables and had to use some cheapos that come standard with any cheap BluRay or audio component you might buy at a big box store. I have not heard any issues with those, so...go figure. I have various ones from Emotiva and Monoprice. Others like BlueJean. The only thing I do tend to spend for is nice looking cables but only when they will be visible. And, by "nice looking", I like the ones with braided covering in dark tones...I think they look classy and don't stand out. Enjoy! Mark

Thanks for the replies,
My AVR that will be feeding the XPA-3 is a Marantz SR5010
I do like Audioquest cables but don't like the cost. I only get them when I have gift cards for Best Buy. No gift cards right now.
So the Monster R/B/G HD RCA cables won't work or they will make it sound funky?
BJC, I've had two sub cables go bad so they are a no.

But if you want something else my recommendation is Blue Jeans. Excellent, high quality cables and no fake science hype on their web site.

Man, I HATE Monster. The 'head monster' is a real litagator, having sued many companies with 'monster' in the letterhead. He even tried getting Blue Jeans to stop selling something AND pay him a royality for some kind of design infringement. Blue Jeans owner? A former hi-end intellectual propety attorney who WELCOMED the lawsuit which never, apparently, went any further than an exchange of letters. www.bluejeanscable.com/legal/mcp/On this basis, and the fact that Monster has HUGE markups and predatory practices, I have excluded them from further consideration.

I read the BJC a few years ago, Since you already have the Monster Cables - just use them. They should be just fine. FYI, the ONLY issue I ever have had with cables and an Emotiva product is that I have found that certain cables appear to have internal issues that result in 1 or more channels showing a red light on my XPA-5 Gen1. I only had that happen with some cables I picked up at Best Buy in a pinch, and then some others I got on line. Can't recall which brand those were. So, if you install them and you get a channel or more going "red light" - try a different cable. Mark

I know you aren't enthusiastic about the price of audioquest cables. I wasn't either, nor do i buy into the hype about them. After a certain point you are just paying for prestige & your own biases as to why those cables you bought which were crazy expensive are 'better'... That said I do own audio quest cables. Reason being the power in my current apartment is very dirty. My Panamax MR5100 helps but my preamp still hums a little. I took it back to the dealer & we had a listen there & it was quiet. Ergo with all the interference from other electronic items behind my set up/home theater I had ground loop and EMI noise. However I didn't know I had a ground loop issue until I brought home the AQ cables. Fixed the loop and never looked back. Previously I was using rocketfish cables from BB which did their job But I didn't realize how much more there was to be gained by using better constructed and shielded cables. The sound became more clear & apparent, while the stage became more readily defined and instruments/voices really took their spot. It wasn't OH MY GOD THIS IS LIFE CHANGING - but it had a noticeable affect that to my ears sounded better. YMMV.
A BIG note if you choose to consider their cables. I have an XPA-4 Gen 3 (Which I love), and I had to exchange my first set of AQ cables for a type that was two separate wires for L and R. The first had a collar on it which was non-adjustable, and since the blades in my amp are spaced evenly apart, there wasn't enough wire to plug each channel in at the same time.

I would try the ones you have. Bet they perform fine. If not I like blue jean cables as well.

For Balanced / XLR, a couple different ways exist to wire them which if mixed might result in no-go. Not all builders use the same wiring for balanced. I think everyone agrees that Pin#1 is ground, but Pin#2 / Pin#3 can be either Pos or Neg, depending on builder.

Still carrying noise free signal from the XMC to my Sunfire. Noise free perfect. Bill

Over the years i have bought mostly AQ cables. I have never had one fail. I don't pay crazy prices for them. I usually get them on closeout or ebay. I have had many other brands fail though.

I personally like the quality build of the Emotiva X-series RCA's. In my experience they've always fit like a glove without being so tight as to break off or loosen an RCA jack on any equipment. They don't appear to have any more analog RCA cables, but they do have the digital coax cables which work just as well as the analog cables, and they're are on sale/clearance. emotiva.com/collections/accessories/products/x-drca?variant=6293294219307

WOW, lot of replies. Great thank you all very much.
With all these replies and not one argument over "my cable is better than yours". What a great group of people actually being adults and offering your opinion without argument..
When I order the amp I will use the R/B/G RCA cables I already have, see how they work. I have two sets that came with the cable boxes. One is Monster labeled and the other looks the same but is generic. When I got the HD boxes I tossed HDMI on them.
As for BJC, I want to like them but like I said, I've had two sub cables fail on me. Might have been my fault, I pull everything off the wall for GI cleaning twice a year. After a few years it didn't work. I replaced it with a Monoprice cable and later an Audioquest cable. Have not had any problems and I just did my spring clean. The Monoprice is still working fine on the upstairs sub.
To go with an AQ Chicago single cable would cost about $225 for all 3. nope that is not happening. I do like AQ as their cables always work. Sound quality on my sub didn't change but it's gone through more cleanings than the BJC did without problem.
So now I am ready to get me a big boy amp (come on May). My 15A circuit will take the load of my HT and The cables I already have should work.
Thanks
Loren
