Hi everyone, Im currently in the market for a more modern preamp to have the pleasure of a remote control... I currently run a vintage system by running a Harman/Kardon 330A tuner that I use as a preamp as it as preamp output on it. It feeds the sound thru a Technics sh-8055 equaliser and is amplified thru a Bose 1801 amp that feed 2 vintage Pioneer and Technics speakers. Pioneer turntable and computer serve a a source for sound... For the ones who owns the PT-100... Do you think I will I loose anything in sound quality and deepness. As you can see the EQ is quite useless because I run it flat because I have a shitload of bass and clearlyness in the sound. I love old style and im a bit afraid to miss something in the sound if I change. Doest the pt-100 sounds flats and bored? I don'T want a flat sounds like example Yamaha or other stuff... Thanks Martin

They have a 30 day trial so you can try it in your home, no one can tell you if you will like it more than you yourself, IMO it's a great thing, if you don't like it it's on you to pay to ship it back but within the US that won't be all that much, I say give them a call and ask about it. I think your right... I should have asked my questions differently... Like: How do you guy's love your Pt-100 compare to what you had before... Sorry. First, Welcome to the forum! You’ve found a wonderful place to hang out and learn! Thats what ive done. Many knowledgeable friends to be made. Ive never heard the PT-100 but I own a TA-100 which Im told is the same exact unit but has also incorporated 50 wpc amp. The unit sounds very good, the DAC on par with the DC-1 IMHO. It does everything you could want except HDMI. The phono preamp is that of Emotivas stand alone XPS-1. Velvety! Even the Bluetooth dongle sounds good. A definite value for its price as it hits way above those dollars. I always buy the first round of EmoBlue for new members!

FLAT IS THE BEST.

Vintage is great and all but from owning a TA-100 which is a PT-100 with an amp built in I must say it sounds wonderful, remember though it's all personal taste and that's why I say try it out in your room with your ears, it has all the rave reviews for a reason, it's just that good.

I too like “vintage” sound. I own a PT-100 and have it paired with a Adcom GFA-535 ii and it sounds great. Not flat at all. The DAC in the PT-100 is very good and not what you might call “digital “. It is being feed by a Raspberry Pi 3 b and sounds very good. I have not used the phono section as it is in my family room system. Be aware that the tuner is very cumbersome to set up memory stations. I would try it out and see what you think. If it’s not for you send it back. Matthew

I think you may have better results moving your speakers around and perhaps trying different speakers. I listened to the PT-100 and I thought it sounded pretty good very close in sound to my DC-1. It was better than the XDA-1 and XDA-2. But I don't know if I would buy it. My DC-1 on the other hand, I think I would.

I think the pre amp PT100 is sold out for now.
And I dig that vintage setup too.

I have a TA-100 with an S8 sub and a set of small bookshelf speakers, its ridiculously good for the price. Big Dan asked me at EmoFest, in front of the entire audience under the big tent "How do you like that S8" - and I shouted "Its the best $200 I've ever spent on audio gear" - the TA-100 is a very close second. The entire system cost me $900 and it punches WAY above that....way above that...

Thats what this hobby is all about for the most part. Some people will never be entirely happy with one setup for more than a few years. I'm one of 'them'. But I am learning to value audio gear by function as well as the audio quality.
As for the OPs PT-100 vs vintage gear, I've owned a PT-100 for a while. I was impressed with the sound quality. I've owned vintage preamps integrated amps and receivers that probably couldn't best the PT-100. It's IMO very transparent - and I agree with the other posters that the DAC is very nice.

I'm a huge fan of my PT-100. I use it in conjunction with an RPA-2 to power my '76 Klipsch La Scalas (although my '76 Heresy are plugged in at the moment), and use a B&O Beogram 1700 turntable with the phono preamp. I could not be more pleased. As far as bang for buck is concerned, this is tough to beat. I think it married my new and vintage tech beautifully.

I'm new here and this PT-100 is my first Emotiva gear. There was a small issue with USB not performing correctly for a few minutes but the pre-amp seems to have snapped out of it and is now functioning very well. I have a near-field desktop system with the PT-100, a Carver M-500 power amp, many pairs of speakers I like to swap in and out ( presently using a pair of Klipsch RP-160m standmounts) and an SVS PB-2000 sub. The sound is incredibly detailed and punchy. Bass is strong without boominess. Very happy with the SQ.
EDIT: To clarify, the glitch only happened the first time I hooked up the PT-100. It runs flawlessly now.

I have an a-100 Flex amp arriving. I was all set on getting an a-300 power amp, but I lucked into winning an auction for an Adcom gfa-555 power amp. I'm getting the Flex amp for both headphones and possibly to bi-amp some speakers. I had to ditch the Klipsch's as they just weren't good for near-field. Instead I have a pair of B&W 601se's that sound much better on this desktop, and the Adcom amp authoritatively controls every driver I throw at it. Impressive high-current.

Just from the title of your thread my response was “do you want a remote?”

So you have seen that with any question, you will get a multitude of responses. some the same, some similar and many totally different. Which really once again supports the truth that the experience and beauty of this hobby is in the ear of the listener. So many variables and as in fingerprints, one set of ears per person. Each set of ears is different so as many have already said, the best way to answer your question is to try the piece out and find out what your ears & brain tell you. I have found out over the years that even with great advice & recommendations, I still have to listen to it to know if I like it or not. Enjoy the music!!

The original Adcom 555 is a Nelson Pass design, but not necessarily up to his 'cost no object' stuff. It is getting on in years and might need a PS recap sooner than later. It was gone over as a II version but I don't think that improved the original. I nearly bought one some time ago, but declined due to age. The amps, not MINE!

I find the Adcom 555 to sound really good, though the a-100 is also a great-sounding little amp, and they sound very similar. My Carver M-500 is definitely in need of servicing, however. Flat-sounding compared to either of those other amps. EDIT: I should add that the Adcom 555 is a very highly regarded power amp and was considered quite favorably to the Krell ksa-250, at 1/10th the price. www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/678/index.html

I think your right... I should have asked my questions differently... Like: How do you guy's love your Pt-100 compare to what you had before... Sorry. I replaced my Kenwood Basic C2 preamp (late 1980s era) with the PT100. It is an amazing preamp. My old Kenwood lacked modern input, like usb, coax, and bluetooth. I did keep my old Kenwood Basic M2A amp and the pairing seems fine. I use the USB input nearly 100 percent of the time (connected to my laptop) streaming Tidal lossless. I'm very very happy about my purchase (bought it during the previous scratch and dent sale.. Or whatever it was called). I find the DAC excellent when playing CDs. (Via CD100 through coax). I'm very close to buying a turntable now. (Probably a Fluance RT81).
