I love the look of legacy speakers. However they are bolder than me, confidently venturing in to DSP systems, powered subs with class D, open baffle, and active crossover systems. That's just too much for me, though for all I know the sound may be better that way.

If you're not interested in the Powered Subwoofers and DSP stuff garbulky, go for the Focus SE's. That's what I've got and I love them (along with their Marquis HD Center Channel). For the money they're hard to beat. Casey

I like this part whatever that means "Since we typically require exotic cone materials, cast frames, etc., a lot of custom tooling is required.”

For the money they're hard to beat. Casey Legacy has also done passive versions of most of their speakers. Recently saw a set of Aeris that was passive and bi-ampable. Sure love the sound I get from mine but the Wavelet is the medal winner here. Toggle the room correction on/off and your jaw is on the floor. Scott Current Aeris: Miss the Whispers but the Aeris is a step up in technology and ironically the opposite approach of the Whispers open baffle woofs. The Aeris is open baffle on one 8" mid while the 10" mid is sealed; as are the dual 12" woofs. The Whispers sound amazing and are aesthetically very nice. Hell, my wife said, "those are sexy"

I like this part whatever that means "Since we typically require exotic cone materials, cast frames, etc., a lot of custom tooling is required.” I think he is referring to the fact that as a speaker designer, they work to develop custom drivers to suit their goals while other speaker builders use production drivers used in a multitude of other speakers. So he goes to driver builders and gives them specs including unusual materials (like the titanium encrusted 8" mids on the Aeris) as well as custom basket, magnet etc requirements and I'd expect that would be not only expensive but require a lot of tooling changes for the manufacturer. Not being a fan-boy but Bill is about the most down to earth, humble guy I've run into in this hobby. Very soft spoken and typically undersells himself. This is not a snobby, boutique builder that is out to rake in ludicrous cash for bragging rights. Scott

Good wife ... :-) So Scott ( simpleman68), have you had a chance to hear their new Valor Speakers? Obviously, at $80K/pair, they're ways out of the range of most of us, but I'll bet they sound pretty cool ... Casey

Most of it is above my paygrade and I can't speak intelligently about the minutae as they both correct frequency and time domain although Dirac refers to theirs as "impulse response correction" Demos I have heard with 2 channel Dirac sounded good to me but the Wavelet was several factors above it, IMO. The stage was more precise and I can close my eyes and pick out exactly where an instrument is in the stage. Dirac clears up the muddy waters but Wavelet seemed to sharpen the sonic image in a much more complete manner. It's very apparent when you toggle room correction on and off. It's almost like going from cheap speakers driven by an AVR to a professionally calibrated rig consisting of great speakers and well matched amp separates. The other thing that stands out to me is that the "sweet spot" is much wider with the Wavelet and not just to a couple seats in the center. The whole room sounds clear and cohesive although it fades when you get well off axis, as you'd expect. Scott

I have not heard the Valors but would like to sometime. I'm dying to see if the law of diminishing returns applies so I can feel better about not being able to afford them. I'm sure they're pretty darned impressive though. At Axpona 2017 I was left in awe of the Von Schweikert flagship model. Forget the name but good googly moogly they were sweet. Leagues above any other speaker I've ever heard; and I've heard a LOT of speakers and configurations. Wilsons, B&W, Focal, six figure, one off custom horns, Magico, Sonus, Viking, Daedalus, Thiel, Vandersteen, Rockport etc. Just their shear mass made them throw a stage that was enormous but very cohesive. A hard combo to pull off in a hotel suite. Room had minimal treatment as well and they were playing Roger Waters Amused to Death. Scott

But back to Legacy Audio speakers ... I do have to say that, for my desires, their Focus SE's fit perfectly. I had been looking for full range speakers to replace my old Vandersteen 2Ce's for about 10 years. I wanted speakers which had very good Bass Extension, but also good imaging and clarity. When I bought the Vandersteens, I got reasonable Bass Extension (~26Hz), but pretty poor imaging. Initially, I was focused on the ~$7k range but didn't find anything. So when I saw the Audioholics review of the Focus SE's five years ago I was very intrigued. It took me another three years with a couple of auditions before I convinced myself to go for them, but I haven't suffered a second of Buyer's Remorse. They're everything I was hoping for and will probably be the last speakers I ever buy. (I'm sure their Aeris speakers are better, but I just can't convince myself to spend that much.) Casey

Anyone have any experiences with the Legacy Calibres? Yes, they are an insane "bookshelf" sized speaker. Ridiculous amounts of clean/tight bass, very smooth/coherent mids and those tweets are excellent. I think I remember Bill telling me they dig down to 3Khz which helps them blend very nicely with the 8" mid driver. I heard it with the Wavelet and powered by a Legacy 2ch Powerbloc amp. I couldn't believe how full they sounded. They sounded as large as the Focus to me. Dead serious; I had to walk up to the speaker to make sure it was the Calibres I was hearing. Dudleston just laughed. Will write more if interested but I'm running for date night with Mrs. Simpleman. Scott

Enjoy the evening with the Mrs. Very interested in your thoughts regarding the Calibres and the Wavelet, although your earlier comments just about answers my ultimate question.
