Actually I find them a little bit on the expensive side for a sub without a DSP. Even if I would have been in the market for new subs - nope.

Delighted, as always, to see a new product. They look impressive and I have long wanted a good sub based on passive radiator technology. Will have to decide if they can replace my HSU research sub with T1s in the winter place. Two might be the ideal bass support. Find that a single sub is not ideal for soundstage.

I'm one of those people who doesn't like veneer unless it's very high end.
So, I think these subs look fantastic.

I wonder how the 15” would compare to the monoprice monolithic 15” THX Ultra? I’m thinking of replacing my PC-12s to get away from the tower sub. I had my eyes on the monolithic, but I was not hard sold.

a quick comparison that i did was that, not including cosmetics, the monoprice subs win across the board. i may have missed something but don't think so...

yeah, I am all about the performance, not so much the look, which is why i have four 18" subs in my system each the size of a large freezer... :-)

I am assuming that the comparison you did was via specs online. Is this correct? I always say that specs don't tell you how something will sound. I also understand that specs are sometimes the only way we have to compare equipment. It does tell us a lot about the performance capabilities. In this case, there are several offerings from from ID subwoofer companies with similar or better specs for the same or lower price. At this point is is a bit tough to do a head to head comparison until a few of the subs are in people's homes.

I got my S12 last week, still evaluating but loving it so far. Tight, powerful, blends well with the mains, great with the movies I've tried so far. I still need to run Dirac, but on the 5.1 disks I've tried (DTS and DVD-A) it sounds excellent running in direct mode.

Sorry Emotiva, compared to the likes of SVS, Rythmik and HSU, they really aren't very compelling.

I'd rather have two BasX subs than one Airmotiv... But I do say that without having heard the Airmotiv subs (only the BasX ones).
A pair of BasX S12s ROCKED my large room!

I'd go Mach 5 UXL-18's to replace my IXL's in my 4cuft boxes before ever buying non DIY subs again, DIY is of way better value but for those who don't DIY these shouldn't disappoint.

You have peaked my interest with this comment. I have 2 S12s as well but can only run one at the moment as I am waiting on the Gen 3 XMC-1 to run my full set up.. Only have one sub out on my Oppo UHD blu-ray player and I have to say it sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to get the whole thing going.

For 1200$ there are WAY better options. I don’t see these selling well.

EMOTIVA: Based on the comments above, think it would be helpful to describe the distortion advantages of a passive radiator system (as opposed to porting) and its extra production costs. You might compare your distortion figures with the Monoprice 15" unit mentioned above and point out how a passive unit betters those found at www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24458Neither the Emotiva web page, nor the manual shows these distortion specifics. If they are as good as we might expect, they should be trumpeted. AND GOSH, Mr. hempster... ...I apologize in advance if I am not sufficiently staying on topic...

At this point is is a bit tough to do a head to head comparison until a few of the subs are in people's homes. Ok, let's start with....well.....bullshit. Monoprice has posted actual CEA-2010 SPL Measurements. Until Emo is willing to post those, then I agree, we are comparing apples to oranges, and guessing. Even if Emo is willing to post said measurements and they are NOT => greater than the Monoprice offerings, is it POSSIBLE that a 12" Emo sub will sound better than a 12" monoprice sub in someone's room? Of course! The room, as most of us know, as well as placement, can make a HUGE difference in how something performs. I have had $3K subs defeated by $300 subs if you have constrained places in a room where you can place a sub, but that's why CEA-2010 measurements and the like exist, to level the field. I know you are not telling me that 20Hz from Emo "sounds different" than 20Hz from Monoprice, right? :-)

Do you really CARE about the extra production costs? I know I don't, as a consumer. Let's talk about distortion specifics...if you can't hear them, does it matter? :-) Why do you think they are "as good as we might expect"?
