I'm getting no sound after switching to HDMI-1, resolvable by a power-off rear switch reboot. It used to happen when switching from my Mac Mini but now it's happening without the Mac being involved. I haven't been able to figure out what makes it happen. FW 5.4, applied twice.

Previous owners with that error had to send the XMC-1 back to Franklin to get it fixed. Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. I’m in Toronto so I hope for a quick painless process . 🙄

Hello,
I purchased a new v3 2.0b HDMI board last week , followed instructions and tried updating the XMC-1 with the factory thumb drive with 5.2 version to the old HDMI board. After like 3 minutes i got an err:init HDSB82 message, then nothing functioned what so ever. Should i install the new v3 board or contact customer service ?

DirecTV Genie Mini, seems to be happening when I switch from streaming with the TV apps (use optical-3 for sound) to watching the satellite. Used to happen only when switching from Mac Mini (in HDMI-4) to satellite.

So after a few months of new board thing are starting to improve with my XMC-1.
Hats off to the Team at Emotiva !!! So for now all audio switching has been spot on as well as all video. The last few days have been a joy to operate even the wife has enjoyed the unit this weekend playing her Christmas music. She was floored by how simple it was to play her favorite songs . It's truly a breeze ! Example : nothing turned on Nothing! Amps off ,XMC-1 off, Sony off . With my mod rite Oppo 205 she pressed transport open button only Inserts a sacd and closes the transport and Walla...... Music !!! Everything is automatic .... Even I'm wicked impressed... I'd have to say well worth the wait.
So I know there are a few little things left to work on with firmware but for now it's pretty solid!
Next would be in passing through HDR 10+
To everyone at Emotiva and all the believers. Merry Christmas and Happy New year !!!

DirecTV Genie Mini, seems to be happening when I switch from streaming with the TV apps (use optical-3 for sound) to watching the satellite. Used to happen only when switching from Mac Mini (in HDMI-4) to satellite. Hmm... so you're using Toslink from your TV to access audio from your TV's apps. Then, when switching back to your Genie Mini (which I assume uses HDMI for audio), you lose audio altogether which requires a cold reboot to get audio back. Is this correct...? Does this loss of audio ever occur when switching between inputs which use HDMI audio only...? For example, after rebooting your XMC-1 and then using only devices which use HDMI for audio and not streaming from your TV...? I ask this because it seems to me that there may be some sort of "disconnect" (glitch) between the HDMI board and the main audio board, which handles all coax/optical digital inputs, that Emotiva may need to investigate. I would suggest emailing them using the dedicated " v3support@emotiva.com" email address and give them a detailed summation of your issue. FWIW, my TiVo 4K Mini (which is similar in function to your Geni Mini) works flawlessly, but since all of my sources use HDMI audio, I never have to switch away from the HDMI board.

After you install the firmware you remove the old board and install the new one. 5.2 wont run with the old board.

It “locks up” with no sound despite switching sources unless I power down using the rear switch.

You got that error because you turned ON the XMC-1 with the old board still inside and the new firmware running on it. The instructions clearly say that you have to set the XMC-1 in Power Save Mode so after the firmware update is done, the XMC-1 remains OFF. Then you need to unplug the power cord and install the new V3 HDMI Board. So basically you are OK, just open the XMC-1 and install the new V3 board. and DO NOT turn the XMC-1 ON until the new V3 board is installed.

I am on V5.4B2 and kind of afraid to move to V5.4 and get glitches LOL. The only bug I have right now is that if I'm watching HDR on ATV 4K or Panasonic 820 and switch to Xfinity TV which is SDR, the XMC-1 keeps showing HDR on the OSD but the video plays correct as SDR.

Yes sir... I’m still running the beta. I probably won’t change anything until something new comes along that gives us a good reason to do so. Yes, I’ve seen the display bug once since installing the 5.4 beta. Just like you, it happened when switching away from my ATV4K over to my TiVo 4K Mini. After switching away, and then back, it correctly displayed “SDR” and I haven’t seen it happen since. I’ve never given it a second thought, but it may be something worth keeping an eye on. I’ll report it back to Lonnie if I see it again.

I admit I hadn't been paying attention but it never seems to happen when switching between HDMI sources. I'll try to isolate it better and see if I can reproduce it, then send email to Emo.

I occasionally use Toslink for my TV native apps. I've never had an issue switching from it to other sources. Obviously, this also requires changing inputs on the TV

Installed the new HDMI board this afternoon. Before starting, since the XMC has been out of my system for a couple of months, I connected it to a TCL series 4 TV that my son uses. Unit powered up with no problem and I could see the Menu of the XMC on the TV. Made sure it was on the proper power setting before continuing. Did the software update, powered off etc. Installed the board with no problems and then powered the unit up. Everything seemed to go ok but I cannot get any video. Changed HDMI outputs to make sure, still no video. Connected the XMC to my Z9D and still no video.
Before taking the top off again and checking inside, is there maybe a setting I should check in the setup menu?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Also try re flashing the firmware again.

Will try installing 5.4 again. Thanks for assistance.

Sounds like you performed the upgrade process correctly, but since it’s been awhile since you’ve used your XMC-1, there “is” something different with the new HDMI board that you might not be aware of. With the new board, HDMI Output 2 is the “Primary” output and is what you should be using. Just a heads up...
