Some of what you say is true, BUT, the Brooklyn has beaten the Manhattan over and over again in sound quality and what folks spent money on. You can always spend more money but it doesnโt mean youโll get the best. (To each their own ears) Besides, I donโt want to โsee a noticeable differenceโ your words, I want to hear them. LOL Just yanking your chain there! ๐ I'm sorry, it didn't see you post anything about a budget. My bad. Total forgot what I recommended. what do I know. This comparison had nothing to do with budget, only sound my friend. Of course this is not my personal experience but its what Ive gathered from other reviewers.

No joking here, I would really like to read those articles. Oops, didnt see that you double posted me. When I have time ill post it. What I saw was the Manhattan and not the Manhattan II unless they are one and the same unit. ๐

That being said, it's pretty much proven these days that the best streaming sound is with ethernet because any conversions via usb to/ or spdif is eliminated. Ethernet will dump bit perfect right into the dac chip, Sorry, but all of that is just an old fairy tale.

Only chassis and PS remain unchanged. Doesn't your Brooklyn stream directly with ethernet?

Whatever you do donโt buy into the computer audio BS, fibreoptic ethernet cables, master clocks, etc.
Iโm Mac mini, 55-foot BJ ethernet cable, SOtM SMS-200 with linear supply, into XMC-1 USB input. Sounds great with roon.

The Schiit eTR is the MOST you need assuming the Mac and the Brooklyn are close to each. Not my situation.

Question, would you install Roon before or after installing the new gear? Would it be an easier setup to let Roon find everything all at once ? Thanks, Nick

FWIW I had my network audio system dependent on Logitech Squeeze server and Squeeze players when I decided to try Roon. I disabled the LMS Server and enabled the Roon server, told it to connect to Squeeze devices, and away I went (after Roon server had identified and scanned my library, which I allowed to happen overnight since it took a while.) I was so impressed that I paid for the lifetime license, and over the past year have upgraded the players from Squeeze devices to Roon Reedy devices, and have not looked back.

Alot of high end Dacs these days either have built in network capabilities, or have it as an optional addin. Bricasti, Ayres to name a few. Best way to go IMO. Also, i never said USB to SPDIF is a bad idea, so people have no other choice. I said it's a better idea if you can do it. Thats all.

Sorry, what I wrote was pretty pissy, I apologize. I was in a bad mood this morning because I was informed that on Monday I get to help decide who gets the axe from a 30% layoff we have to do due to the trade wars. That blows big DACs.

NO NOISE....nothing else needed. Simply put if there is noise I can't hear anything. This reminds me of conversations about DISTORTION using tube amps. It may be in the specs and graphs but not to my ears...I hear pristine, sublime musical notes and voices. Music Nirvana. Keep things simple.

Hey guys, I think that maybe some of you are confusing audible noise with the type of noise that masks? Covers? Hides? Muttles? Etc the sound of your music/sound system. A noise that beats down the perfect midbass or pitch perfect high note.
We are not speaking of an audible hiss or buzz or what have you. Those are nasty but are much easier to identify. When you add something like a Schiit EITR and a tone becomes more refined, was that worth the price? If its audible and you like it better, yes. Did it clear up a hum or buzz? No but it ridded some type of โnoiseโ.
If your satisfied with your system, GREAT! Your done! ๐๐๐ If, like some folfs, theres that last little bit thats driving you crazy, the journey continues. At this time my system is in a state of flux and Im learning and refining my ears. Im having fun! ๐
