I was just wondering how many people have given up on buying CDs?
I personally have not bought a CD in 2-3 years.
I listen to the majority of my music via streaming with either Tidal or Amazon.
What I have done is moved back to vinyl for music I really like, just like the old days of the 70s.

Mostly buy CDs, occasional HDTracks, usually stream when I’m working on projects in the shop.

As another said, haven’t bought a new one in years; I think last one was when Pink Floyd’s “The Endless River” came out.
On the other hand, I buy donated CDs from thrift stores and the library all the time. As an example, I bought the entire Steely Dan catalog a few weeks ago in mint shape (better condition than the few I already owned) for less than five bucks.

I only purchase CDs if a title is unavailable via streaming so I probably average 2 discs per year.
However, the CD gets ripped and stored on my NAS so I only need it for a few minutes.
I have not owned a dedicated CD player since 2000 and I think the last time I actually listened to a CD was.... I don't even remember, maybe 5 or 6 years ago in a Blu-ray player.

Yesterday I bought another couple of SACD’s, I’ve been gradually supplementing my classic rock vinyl collection with SACD versions. Most have been hybrids so I can also rip them to iTunes as I have found that even the stereo layer sound mix and quality are both superior to the CD version. Especially early to mid 80’s CD ‘s some of which are quite horrid. A number of the SACD’s are based on the quadraphonic versions that I had back in their day.
If I want to listen to music then I play CD’s, if I want background music while I do something else then iTunes does OK for me.

The main physical media I purchase are Blu-ray (two and multichannel audio, live concerts, etc.) and SACD (two and multichannel). I also have a collection of DVD-Audio discs I enjoy. I don’t buy as frequently any more. TidalRoon with high fi / Mqa fills most my current music needs now.

I buy at thrift stores and local library branches (donations or old library CDs). I got some good SACDs for the same price as CDs - C$1.

I buy physical media.
But I also buy digital downloads.
My big deal is that I won't buy any lossy compression asset at all. Period. So no MP3s, etc. What's disturbing to me is how hard it's getting to buy lossless assets. For instance, Amazon is nearly worthless for me now. It just keeps trying to peddle MP3s.

Relevance and convenience. CD is nice and it is still around for me. Just with all the music on HDD or SD or the web. I just don't need CD much anymore. Even my car plays a 128gb flash drive in .wav format. Or flac.
Believe me I like CD allot but it is no longer my first go to. Why? Record length. When it is done I have feed another one to keep the music playing. Also on the go whether I am creating or just listening, the CD is so ,80s and 90s. My recorder is my protable Tascam DA-40 SD Recorder. I can exceed CD quality all day long.
Also my computer using Audacity and Foobar gives me all I need to listen and record. Not rocket science. Just music on my terms. Anytime,anywhere, the way I want it less the silver and gold round disc things.

I disagree about Amazon.....
They sell most music in the full variety of formats. Individual file downloads, including MP3s, may seem more prominent (because they list every song separately), but, if it's available on CD, they almost always have it in that form as well. I would agree that, for high-res content, and more unusual small-label stuff, they may not be the best choice.... but, for more mainstream stuff, they still have a huge selection on CD.
