Some things to check, these are long-shots, but might help for some but probably not all the extreme noise problems. Sounds like some noises are Volume related, and others are not. Setup:: Preferences:: Turn On Volume or Last Used.As others have stated, this is probably a good item to be set at the minimum available of -60dB. Or you can use Last Used and mute the volume before shutting down each time so it'll be muted upon startup. Setup:: Preferences:: Max VolumeThis is intended to limit the volume controls on the Front Panel and Remote, but maybe it can also limit the noises. ? This would be set for a safe maximum volume. Setup:: HDMI CEC:: Volume:: Disabled (check box) Do some of you who’ve had the noise problem have this Enabled? Just a thought. In my experiences with the random rmc1 noise behavior, some noises have a volume level that are correlated with the master volume and some do not. The dsd noises were correlated to the master volume but the screeches, pops, etc are not always correlated. You cannot react fast enough to stop it and I have no idea if the volume knob would even have any impact. Hard to believe ... 1 year... still random noises that have the potential to destroy equipment. No less than 3 times a family member has run into the room and asked what’s wrong thinking I was screaming at the top of my lungs... or being killed. I was happy to respond, “nope, I’m ok, just watching tv”.

Loud noise on power up has happened twice now w 1.7.6. This is much more frequent than before ( used to be every 2 mo's).

Had the loud noise issue last night with my XMC-2 (still on 1.7). Emotiva needs to make this a top priority before someone damages their speakers.

Apparently putting a mute filter in if a signal is not understood is very very difficult.

No.... but....
Putting a mute filter in quickly enough to make sure that no nasty noises getting through... And making sure it never blocks anything that should be allowed through... And making sure it unmutes quickly enough that it never cuts off the beginning of your song... And making sure that it mutes quickly enough afterwards... if necessary...
Doing all of those things can indeed get quite complicated...

Apparently putting a mute filter in if a signal is not understood is very very difficult. It already chops off the beginning of a song. Nothing new.
I believe Emotiva thinks the RMC-1 has less issues than it actually does.
You have been wonderful dealing with us, but I would rather miss another 1/2 sec of audio then get blasted with 140dB of full range bandwidth white noise from every single speaker in my system.
Or better yet.... Figure out a way to make sure the RMC-1 syncs every time. That would be the best option.
*I understand few things are to standards. But every manufacture but Emotiva has figured out a way to do it.*

Exactly this. I hate to rant on here but this loud buzz issue is really serious. Before my XMC-2 I had a Marantz 7702mkii that never made a loud buzzing sound, it never cut off the beginning of a song. I was using all the same sources as well. I feel at this price point these kinds of issues shouldn't be happening. It is a bummer because otherwise I feel the XMC-2 is amazing. It sounds fantastic for both 2 channel music and surround movies. Keith is there anything in the new firmware to address this? I feel this should be priority #1 since it is only a matter of time before it damages someone's speakers.

Bugs in the code.. And no known fix yet it seems.

Hey, where’s Bonzo, who started this monster thread?
We didn’t always agree, but I miss his views.

Started my RMC-1 today and it froze during startup. The display said please wait and it was some time after the trigger setting had been done because my amp was on. This on firmware 1.7.6.

Another week gone by. How's the next firmware coming along??

Another week gone by. How's the next firmware coming along?? I’m guessing 1-2 weeks away atleast.. Then also a delay with Dirac.. 45 days is approaching fast.. But with the bugs still left in 1.7.6 I can’t see them meeting the goal of Dirac in middle of march.. I have issues with lockups at startup that I have never had before. Also still no sound a start of some inputs. HDMI, digital or analog makes no difference, can be any type of input. Although always a simple switch and back to get sound. What I have noticed though is that if I get no sound through analog for example I need to switch to a HDMI input and back. If there’s a problem with HDMI then mostly switch to a digital or analog and back. The strange thing is that sometimes it works just by pressing the same input once more. I have noticed the small, about 1 second or less, delay when starting a song when connected to coax or toslink. Never noticed any delays on analog or hdmi connections. No burst of loud sound in my setup yet.. Hopefully I’ll never experience it..

Wow, blocked sound on ANALOG inputs too? I did have one case where the RMC1 under a much older FW would play nothing on the analog inputs until I did a hard reset... but a regular muting of analog seems like a new problem?
Yes, again, we get the "it's difficult [to do this]" speech, yet as we have said, other vendors using the same chipsets don't have the same problems. This is a round robin argument, eventually it should be understood that if it can be done by others without issue you have a talent or manpower deficiency, or there's simply no desire to get it right due to some belief that the problems are minor or isolated or... some other reason altogether. The definition of "done" varies, remember when Hyundai first starting make US cars, they were content to send cars out the factory with gaps in the windshield and A-pillar, whereas most other companies would never even think of that, no matter what the pricepoint. We'll obviously never understand, but one thing *I* can understand is that after over a year it's still not right and the needle is not trending in the right direction, the chances of success go down... but that's up to the individual person to decide obviously.
