I wanted to buy an ERC3 this month, no more available in French stores and it is removed from the catalog "Emotiva France" for 2 days! Let's hope that is a sign of the arrival of the future ERC4 before the summer! yes, there is coming the ERC-4 with a center drawer and a digital input to use the CD player as a DAC. there are 2 digital inputs. here is a pic of the glossy brochure ireleased at AXPONA. View Attachmentmerci pour l'info , c'est une excellente nouvelle ! sera t-il disponible avant l'été....

I’ve got the ERC-3 using balance Mogami Xlr cable to XSP-1 then Mogami xlr cable to XPA-2 Gen1. Using Elac unifi UB5 or Kef LS50 speakers. Good sounding CD player.

The center drawer is better looking for sure, Utilizing the DAC inside with inputs is a superb option.
The player I had before the ERC-3 was the Music Hall C-DAC 15.3, It featured USB, Optical and Coaxial inputs and sounded
much like the ERC via RCA out. The balanced ouputs is what sets the ERC-3 apart from the Music Hall.
I have to admit I miss the slot load of the ERC-2 but from owning one I understand why Emo abanded that style of drive,
If you leave a disc in overnight and forget you left it and load another disc into it the drive jams easily.
Its not a hard fix after you take the cover off but I'm sure more than a few were sent back to the service dept.

You are correct. my GUESS is that changes source... cd vs digital input. Okay cool, love direct command buttons. Next question. Is it only manual input switching, or is there a menu setting for manual or auto sensing? Either way is fine with me just asking to know.

In this day of digital downloads and computer based music servers how many people still spin disc as well as stream their music, either stored on hard drives or from another source, ie Tidal and that sort of thing?

That's an entirely different discussion for a different thread. We've had lots of them. There is even a poll thread and what might surprise you is last time I saw it, was like 50/50. Although people here are not normal.

Will it play HDCD like the ERC-3? The specs don't even mention it, but my guess is it will play them, but it won't decode the HDCD part. It will just play them like a regular CD. Keith will have to confirm.

That is correct. The ERC-4 will play an HDCD just like a regular CD - but it will not decode the HDCD encoding.

Some people really prefer the convenience of streaming or digital downloads. Others prefer to have a disc they can actually hold in their hand.
And there are other factors: For example, streaming may not work well for some people who don't have really solid Internet access. And, now that CDs are becoming less popular, a lot of used CDs are available really cheap (and, unlike vinyl, unless there are obvious scratches, you probably don't have to worry about them playing properly). There are also still some limitations on what's available for streaming or download.
You will also find that there are significant limitations both about what versions of particular recordings are available and how well documented they are. (For example, classical fans looking for a particular issue of a particular recording may not be able to find that version available to stream or download, and sometimes you can't even find information about which version you're listening to.)
I find that a lot of people still have a significant collection of CDs - and still listen to them. Also note that the statistics about how many CDs are sold don't necessarily coincide with how many are still in circulation, and how many are being played.

The fact that you guys put a hard button on the outside is fantastic. Makes me assume there isn't an auto detect but just asking to confirm. Thanks.

I don't know one way or the other, but I doubt it's auto sensing. I'm not sure but is the key on the remote between the "Repeat" & "Display" for switching between CD playback & digital inputs?
