I am new to Emotiva and I am planning a purchase. I have a media room that I am nearing completion on and it is being setup for 7.1/7.2 sound. I would like some recommendations. The room is 16 X 18.5 feet by 10 feet tall. What speakers should I buy? Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm a fan of Phase Technologies PC series speakers. They're hard to find, but if you have a dealership near you, you should give them a listen.

What's your budget, how loud do you like to play your music, and what type of amplifier power do you have, or plan to buy?

I am planning on buying the newest 7 channel Gen3 amplifier from Emotiva. I have a XMC on its way. I will limit the system to 75 DB. That is how loud movie theaters get at maximum.

I am a DIY. I use URC remotes and I program them myself. I ran all of my own speaker wire and the insulating value of my walls is top notch.

For 60 days you can listen to Maggies, in your room. www.magnepan.com/review_MMGWandMMGC_by_Vince_HanadaAdd a pair of MMGi 's to this set & you've got the "7" for about $ 1600 Then, you can add a sub from Outlaw or HSU or SVS or PSA and be done for $2500 or less

Interesting on the Maggies. I will have to go an listen to them at my local dealer. That's what you need to do anyway. Make yourself a thumb drive or a CD with the music you want to hear for testing, and take it with you to every store in your area you can find. Only then will you be able to find speakers you like. Coming on an internet forum and vaguely asking people what speakers to buy is completely useless. Speakers are not like TV's. For a TV, if you want the best one out there just check reviews online or in magazines. When multiple top review sites all say the same thing, it's golden. That's why I got my Panny ZT. Every reviewer on the planet said it was the best TV ever made to that point, so I bought it. You simply can't do that with speakers. Not even remotely. Two audiophile buddies could be in the same room, using the same equipment, listening to the same music, but could both have widely different opinions about which 2 sets of speakers sound better. For example, Maggies are great speakers, but they sound nothing like B&Ws, also great speakers. Get out to the stores with your CD in hand, or buy something on-line with a trial period. Only YOU will know which speakers fit your ears, your room, your use (stereo music or movies), and your budget.

Excellent advice.....
Some people love Maggies.... but some don't.... Likewise, some people love Klipsch.... but some don't.....
Speakers sound very different and only you will be able to tell which ones you like.
I would offer some further advice..... Maggies in particular are VERY particular about setup and room placement.
Therefore you REALLY want to listen to them somewhere that has spent a little while setting them up properly. (If you hear them jammed back against a wall you almost certainly won't like them at all.)

I should of course mention that we're fans of OUR speakers.
As with all of our equipment, our goal was accurate and uncolored sound... But our Airmotiv folded ribbon tweeters offer an excellent combination of clarity without any sense of strain or harshness.
YOu will need to decide whether you have room for full-sized speakers all around... Or whether you want to go with large towers and center in the front and wall mounts on the surrounds.

Movie theaters never get above 75DB? I took my spl meter with me to the theater. Peaks were 100db during the last star wars. Mind you this was also at an ultra avx theater. The regular theatres might only do 75db but last time I went to one of those the left surround was blown.

As far as the Emotiva Speakers go, it would be nice to listen to them before buying. Given where I live that is likely not going to happen.

Agreed. Hence, my initial statement; "For 60 days you can listen to Maggies, in your room." I'm not aware of another manufacturer that'll allow a 60 day trial. That's a nice opportunity to hear / know how YOUR room will respond. Excellent advice.....

We can't recommend anything until you tell us your priorities AND BUDGET!! Did I say Budget, yes BUDGET. How much money are you willing to spend and for how many speakers? Is your priority music or movies? What kind of movies/music? Big Action movies? Small intimate movies? Jazz? Blues?
My favorite speakers that I have heard recently are Monitor Audio Gold ($2,840 EACH). I also really like Totem Acoustic Forest Signatures ($6,500 per Pair). I can't afford either of them, but I like them.
I have had good luck with speakers from Dali Zensor Line (soon to be obsoleted) and the replacement Oberon line looks really good. These are fairly affordable with the most expensive Oberon 7 being $1,300 (maybe $1,400 per pair). Monitor Audio Silver series sounds good also. Floorstanders from $1,500 to $2,500 per pair.
There always budget options available, Elac Debut line comes to mind. Then there are internet direct- Emotiva, Chane Audio, Tekton....
This all barely scratches the surface. Other Brands- Martin Logan, Kef, Klipsch.. Its really endless.. Sorry.
Budget and listening preference heps to narrow down the list.

No one here can really tell you what speakers to buy. Our setups are unique, and our ears hear things differently, and really only you can decide for yourself. You will need to listen to as many speakers as you can to find your sound. We can give you examples of what each of us like but in reality it is a moot point. Take your time and don't rush an impulse purchase for buyer's remorse. Good luck on your search.
