I was at CES and went to the MonoPrice suite at the Venician. They didn't even bring the damn thing there. I couldn't believe it. Of all things that was my biggest disappointment at CES. I was really looking forward to hearing it.

Kind of like what Michael Jordan said about the 2012 Dream Team "They learned from us, we didn't learn from them" Monoprice had the opportunity to see how Emotiva released and has been able to not try to repeat some of those blunders hurdles. Hindsight. Weird analogy as that would imply Emotiva is the "Dream Team" in this scenario. And less hindsight, more common sense.

But yeah I'd say it's a mix of both hindsight and common sense.

Interesting...I wonder if they will be at Axpona in April.
It would be a great venue to show off all their Monolith gear.

No Emotiva was not there. They were the last 2 years. MonoPrice had some Monolith headphones and the preamp. Other than that it was mostly 3D printing. The odd things is they were up in the suites which is supposed to be higher end audio and installation. It would have been a great venue for the HTP-1.

I received one yesterday, and I'll share my impressions. Out of respect to the fine people at Emotiva, I won't post opinions on the Lounge. You can see them here: tinyurl.com/toaqseb

^^^ +1 Yes, I think the competition should be healthy and inspirational for EMO. If I had seen a post like the one of wilburthegoose on avsforum about the XMC-2, I would have been among the first people in line to upgrade my XMC-1. I am still keen on the XMC-2, but one without bugs and with Dirac firing on all cylinders.

As nice as I'm sure the HTP-1 is, I'm afraid I couldn't get beyond Wilbur's very first comment - "I think Atmos works even without ceiling speakers"? Unless you have upward firing speakers - it really doesn't. Strange comment.

It appears that the object audio works in a 7.1.0 environment too. I don't get the overhead effect, but you certainly gain benefits even from the "traditional" speakers.
Example - I was testing using Incredibles 2 on the Disney streaming service. It has Atmos audio, and when playing it, the front panel displays "Atmos" as the input, playing as Dolby Surround through 7.1.0. There's a scene where the sound comes from in front of you to behind you, and it sounds better than it did on my non-Atmos device. My wife didn't know what I was testing and said, "I've never heard anything like that before."

There may well be advantages to other non-Atmos set-ups with an Atmos mix, but it definitely isn’t that object based mixes work in a 7.1 environment to provide Atmos playback. You may well be witnessing tighter steering, but equally so it could just be placebo. No matter it’s your system and I’m sure your delighted with it so enjoy it. Glad you’ve got something your happy with 👍

With overhead speakers, Atmos will render objects to the bed channels as well as the overheads. I see no reason it wouldn't still render objects to any and all available speakers, even if overhead speakers do not exist.
I don't know, just speculating.

Agreed totally, but it doesn't provide an atmos experience in a 7.1 set-up.
