Grew up on Heresy’s and have owned 1.7i’s for a year and a half. Finally own a home and want a “final purchase” set of stereo speakers. A pair of DR 1’s will be running them. What would you do?

Wow, those are two very different choices. Its really about what your ears prefer. I have Maggie 3.7is driven by a pair of DR1s and I love the clear, articulate sound with a large soundstage. It's proven to be a wonderful pairing and I'm very pleased. However it's a much different sound than you'd get from pairing the DR1s with Klipschorns. I'm sure they'd sound great too and you could entertain the neighborhood with those watts and the high efficiency of the speakers

You’ll never get the dynamic range of a Klipschhorn with a Magnepan (or most other speakers for that matter), that said I prefer the more natural tonal balance, transients, and imaging of the Maggies. Of course you need good corners for the K-Horn, and need to get the Maggie’s away from the wall, both can be a challenge.You can’t get much more different than those two, overall the Maggies are more challenging to get right, but (to me) more rewarding when you do. I think only you can answer that one. Have fun!

Seven years ago I replaced my 32 year old speakers. At the time I thought that was it. I bought new speakers two months ago, now I'm thinking this is it.

For me, there's no question as to which is the better choice. Maggies win hands down.
Of course, if you love "boxy" sounding bass, "shouty" vocals and fatiguing treble, then by all means, go for the horns...

Speakers are a very personal choice, but for me - I'd take the Maggies instantly. I was never a fan of the Klipschorns.

Khorns would be an easy winner in my mind. Only thing you need is actual corners to put them in...which I am lacking.

Mark me too, years back (in the 80's) owned acoustic electrostatics and infinity RS=1 (that had the planer/magnetic mids and tweeters)   . more similar to Maggies than to speakers with dynamic drivers. never liked the horn loaded klipsch or the super high efficiency ones because of what their midrange was like. |

If you're serious about the DR-1's then you should get the Maggie's because the DR-1's would be serious overkill my emotive buddy for life "snacker" brought some LA Scala's he connected them to a little 50 watts/channel tube amp he could not turn the volume past 2, anything past that and he would be playing music for the neighborhood. Now if your goal is to play extremely loud music, and you have a very large space, then maybe the Klipsch will be a final purchase speaker for you, but I'm not sure you're going to benefit driving them with DR-1's. It's your money so you decide! We here in the lounge have a lot of opinions. Good luck with your decision. j

Wow, you probably couldn't pick two more different styles of speakers.
I haven't heard Maggies but have heard Martin-Logan. Step an inch off center and you lose it. Thin sounding (no pun intended).
I haven't heard the Horns but did buy my son a pair of original Heresys for his first stereo system. Very easy to drive, nice bass but not very deep. Nice sounding and accurate at low volumes. The horns were too harsh for my ears with volume.
It's all about what it sounds like to you.

Maggies, hands down. I have 3.7Rs with XPA-1s - heavenly.

To me it boils down to what you listen to, how loud you listen and how large your room is. For rock, pop, rap, country I would say go Klipsch. If you are into easy listening, orchestra, adult contemporary maybe the Maggies are a better fit.
I have 102bd efficient Klipsch KLF-30’s and I run XPA-1’s. They take everything I can throw at them. One of the best rock speakers to me that you will find.
