I took a shot of this Monarch butterfly last year that landed on one of my golfing buddies. He sat there for 4-5 shots before departing for more interesting places. View AttachmentThat's actually a Tiger Swallowtail.

Here's a mushroom I spotted while playing a round of golf. I put a green golf ball next to it for scale. This thing was huge. Taken with my iphone. Pic has been compressed from 5mb to 1mb due to pro-boards limitation of 3mb. I'm surprised the golf course there in Eastern Worshington allows you to play with micro balls?

Some of these I had posted in the old thread, but I put together the highlight photos of my 2018/19 ski season, most in Park City Utah ... yeah, I know you east coast guys have probably had enough of winter, but I’m already looking forward to the next one! An early season sky out the back door (red sky in morning ... skiers get stoked!) ... out the same back door before a bluebird powder day ...... Evening view of the Wasatch back ...... Early chair ride on Thaynes ...... West face of Jupiter overlooking Pinecone Ridge ...... tailings pile from Thaynes shaft ...... The Hoist at Thaynes shaft (skiers used to ride this!) ...... Dreamcatcher ...... the lonely chair ...... frosted trees at Steamboat Springs ...... night time ...... yours truly, deep powder day ...... a beautiful evening overlooking Kimball Junction ...... at Snowbird with ski buddy Paul (I’m in red) ...... skiing upper Ozone on Jupiter Peak ...... headed down lower Ozone ...... Jupiter Peak ...... late season at Alta with Paul & Russ (I’m in red again) ...

I LOVE Aquariums! Had one a large one when I was a kid. Please post more. Thanks Gar. I don't know if you noticed a fuzzy area in the pic of the 2 black Angelfish (the one on the lower left) but that fuzzy area is new hatched baby Angelfish. The male would chase everything in the tank to the corners. Planted tanks are a LOT of work - lighting, fertilization and frinkin' water changes and gravel vacuuming.

This is a shot of my little buddy, Milo. I had to say goodbye to him on Jan 9th of this year. I still miss him. Guess I'll never get passed that! For the last year of his life Milo had to get cortisone shots to help him through life. Special ($$$) foods and skin care were the norm for his last 2 years or so. Milo came to me in June 2008, best the vet could tell Milo was about 4-5yo then, and healthy other than his blindness. He had had a rough life prior to him adopting me, being totally blind, but had an excellent set of ears. The vet said his right eye was probably taken out by getting hit by a car from what he could tell, based on the scars on that side. The left eye appeared to be punctured by something sharp. Perhaps a dog bite? He had a couple of teeth scars on his head. I always played my music low for fear of inducing early deafness on him. His bad hearing showed up about 2 years prior to his death. It made life tougher, but he was a tough dog, and managed quite well. He was always going forward, he didn't let his blindness control him. Whenever he was navigating between the fence and the house he would *bleep* an ear towards the house, gauging how close he was by how loud his footfalls were, and adjusting course. What an amazing dog! Yes, I still miss him. Allergies were his greatest enemy, when he could not withstand another cortisone shot I knew it was time to say goodbye to my little buddy. It was a lovely 10 1/2 years.

My son is always taking pictures of an area of Washington state that we loved driving and hiking and fishing, near where we lived, Arlington, and then sending them to me. You used to be able to drive on the logging roads in this area, and especially Green Mountain. I used to drive up to the last virgin stands of trees on one of those logging roads and sit amongst those big beautiful trees and meditate, and listen to the birds, bugs, and the quiet. Homeless people have screwed that up with loads of trash and zero respect for the ecology or the wildlife. Now the only way to Green Mountain is on foot since the forestry department of Washington has wisely closed those roads, letting only logging operations in. I'm in pretty good shape for 71 but I'm not going to hike 6-7 miles one way for a look-see at those big beautiful trees. What a shame. Below is a shot of the Stillaguamish ('Stilly' if you're a native Washingtonian) river on the Mountain Loop Highway. Its one of the last of the unspoiled areas in the western side. The lower part of the river used to be a premier steelhead fishing stream. Not so much these days, sadly. It is also alongside the Stilly where that giant mudflow in the small community of Oso that killed 43 people in a heartbeat. This pic was taken 10-15 miles upstream. Oso is about 15 miles from Arlington. Below that is a typical view of the highway itself. I think it was well caught by my son. Got the old man's eye for a good pic. Or maybe I'm just tooting my own horn? Naw! I hope you guys enjoy these pics.

This pic was shot with my Nikon D3200 last fall, subject is (duh!) a maple tree. Probably one of the best shaped trees on the golf course. A few days later, after a windy night or two, this tree had maybe 10% of it's leaves. It does get windy here at times.

I took this shot last year during a full moon. I think the camera had a tough time deciding on what to focus on since nothing was really in focus. The moon was too bright to show details, but it looks cool to me. It was shot with a tele lens at 450mm. I have some shots of a very early moon, maybe 1-3 hours old but I can't seem to find them ATM. Those were taken with a Nikon D100 and a Meade Maksutov 7" telescope. The D100 was never very good for astro-photography, and the D200 I had after the D100 was even worse. The D3200 is actually better than either of those cameras. With 24 million pixels it gives plenty of detail. The D100 was 6mp, and the D200 was IIRC 12mp. I haven't tried the Pentax Q under dark skies yet. I may try that out some time. It has a 12mp sensor. I took a shot of this Monarch butterfly last year that landed on one of my golfing buddies. He sat there for 4-5 shots before departing for more interesting places. View AttachmentThat's actually a Tiger Swallowtail. Thanks! I wasn't sure what it was but a couple of the guys said it was a Monarch. Shows you how much I know about butterflies!
