I've always been active (work out at least 3x week), and I have always eaten pretty healthy, but I eat A) too fast, and B) too much.
A couple weeks ago I signed up for Noom. I've tried all the other calorie tracking apps, and they're great for a week or so, and then they get boring and I stop doing it. Noom has done a good job of keeping me engaged, and interested. It's almost like Duolingo for teaching you better eating habits.
I'm down 5 pounds in the last two weeks. About 30 to go.
Oh, the other thing is that we've started using Hello Fresh! meal deliveries. I have to go to the store much less frequently, the meals are healthy, and they are portion regulating, so I can't overeat unless I start digging for other stuff after dinner. And for those situations, I've been keeping lots of fruits and veggies around to snack on.

I weigh less than I have in decades, but have stalled a bit due to some carb collisions! The progress here is encouraging.

I stay right around my ideal weight by coordinating physical training with an understanding of fat content in foods. A measure of common sense is critical and my own personal “rewards program” that includes ALL the goodies (cookies, cake and ice cream).
You can eat all of that stuff, if you remember WHEN you ate it and practice damage control afterwards. I might sit down with home theater with a big dish of cookie dough ice cream, but then not touch the stuff for three weeks. Next day I’m diligent in remembering what I did to myself yesterday! LOL. Earning those treats rather than denying is the key.

Lets use this thread to post updates and encouragement for each other! I put the cookies down and am trying to loose weight and eat healthier! Exercise will definitely help but issues make that difficult, but I’ll try! I’m down 10 lbs in the last few weeks, haven’t really been watching the scale but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally looked at it! It said Zero! LOL, then I stepped on to it! 😲 Congrats dude! That is awesome! Stick with it. Getting started is the hardest part and you have past that point. Pick small goals that you can achieve quickly in the beginning, that will keep you motivated. After you have been at it a while, it will simply become a way of life. Lonnie

Even retired, having an active lifestyle and skiing almost every winter day, I gain weight in the winter. Food discounts and generous bartenders do me in (and I do like my beer 🍺), but I’m also down 10 pounds since ski season ended, so congrats to you Nick! I always feel better when my weight is under control and my clothes fit more loosely — and I know it’s healthier! Keep it up novisnick! Congrats to you as well!! Down 10# is great, so stick with it. In January my wife convinced me to start going to the gym. I go three days a week and have a personal trainer. My golf drives go 20 yards farther and my cholesterol went from 214 to 165. I thank my wife regularly for getting me off my butt and into an exercise program! Good for you! Keep at it and enjoy the journey. Lonnie

I really gained after my knee surgery last year. I hit an all time record high of 260. Then as I was about to start excercising again I tore my labrum in my right shoulder. I'm down to 240 after 3 months back at karate. Just saw my doctor and he threatened me. Cholesterol was borderline high and sugar was 100. The challenge is to drop 15 more lbs before my November Appointment so my target is 225. If I don't its likely that I need to go on daily meds. I grabbed an amazon fire tv and a six month subscription to Beach Body on Demand. Now I just need to find a program to do at home, while still doing martial arts 3 nights a week. Maybe each of us could post what workout they did that day? Mine today was dinner out with my wife and peanut butter mousse for desert... guess I need to workout tomorrow. I'm glad to hear you are back at it again. It's a tough road coming back from an injury. Tore my hamstring about 4 years ago at a powerlifting comp and that took about 6 months to heal. Most recently I had a partial tear of the maniscus in my left knee and I'm slowly building back up to where I was. Hang in there and you will get it. Adding some weight training to your Karate and watching your macros will get you to your goal quickly. Lonnie

Cut out sugars about 2 months ago. Playing basketball here at the office every day on my lunch hour. Down 15 lbs and heading towards the inner holes on my belt! Sadly though I suffered a heel injury on Monday that will keep me off my foot for about 4-5 weeks. Looks like I'm about to switch to free weights on my bench for the time being lol. Come lift with me. It will be fun. Lonnie

I was not necessarily fat. However, I am only 5' 4" and I was weighing 168 pounds. I was able to shred all the way down to "an ideal weight" for my age and height. In the past two and a half months I have lost 16 pounds and I am now down to 152 pounds and if I weight myself first thing in the morning my weight is exactly 150 pounds. I accomplished this by eating strictly vegetarian and fruits and occasional seafood on weekends and working out 4 times a week with a 30 minutes of moderate cardio and then resistance training. I have also eliminated sugars but not completely. I do not drink soda or beer. Good job man! Lonnie

To my surprise I’m back to 30lbs. Down
Hadn’t weighed myself in a while and noticed my clothes were getting loose.
Recumbent bike 30 minutes a day at a rather intense level. Still no sugar and only carbs from vegetables
I have a long road to go. Probably another 40 lbs. but I can do it
Back surgery I put on the extra 30 so I’m glad to have that gone.

Well done, keep at it! Surgeries are nasty. I had inguinal hernia done two years ago. To play it safe I waited three months to resume running and one more after that before going back to weights workout at the gym. I just went on long walks every day for those four months and tried to keep my eating in check. I still put on a few pounds, but it could have been worse.

I was bed ridden for almost 6months before and after surgery. Couldn’t find relief aside from one position on my side. With 1 year old twins and a working wife we ate every meal to go for about a year. Insane to see how fast you can pack on the lbs!!!

I lost 40lbs in 5 months just by simply switching to ALL organic. Look at the ingredients we are consuming, things you can’t pronounce, man made stuff that has not been around for thousands of years and we are putting it into our bodies.
Do your own research. YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH. Read this book, “ Never be Sick Again” by Raymond Francis. He has a masters of science from MIT.
40 years ago autism was 1 in 10,000. Now it is 1 in 68. 1 in 3 will have cancer. Half of all dogs will die from cancer. Diabetes has skyrocketed. Every disease has increased in population frequency.
It is simply what you are putting into your body, nothing more.
That book, and his 3rd book, “Never Fear Cancer Again”, I bought 20 copies of each of those books and started handing them out to friends, family, people I care about and some random people I met and new they needed the knowledge in these books. i kept them in the trunk of my car.
You know how the tobacco companies modified the chemicals in cigarettes to make them as addictive as possible? They do the same thing with foods.
This is the best way I can explain how what you ingest is killing you. I started smoking cigarettes when I was 12 and smoked for 9 years. More than likely I will not have any direct adverse effects from having smoked. But if I had never quit I will have been smoking for 35 years and we all know that I would have health problems directly related to smoking. It is the same thing with food. Putting poisons in our bodies over decades is no bueno.
You are in control of you own health. Do your own research. Stop poisoning yourself and your children.

I shop mainly from the outside isles at the grocer. Farmers market. Been reading lables for over 3 decades. I also try (not easy sometimes) to stay clear of pharmacuticles. Stay active as possible. Maybe I'm lucky, but im in better shape than most of my family (extended included).
