Yes I had one, was in one of the accessories boxes. Nothing special, ie not branded Emotiva etc. I suspect it’s just because on some kit if you use modern, big, usb sticks they’re not the most compatible. An old fashioned 1 or 2gb stick often works much better for updates.

All of the new processors use a switching supply.... (There are also multiple local regulators inside - also switching type regulators.)
I would also concur that using a SMPS is hardly a downside... we switched over to one because it delivered BETTER performance.
Why do you consider this to be a downside? FWIW the Monoprioce HTP-1 went from a linear power supply to a switching one because they had less noise. Hi, thank you for your feedback! From my point of view here is an interesting comparison SMPS vs. LPS for audiophiles applications: audiobacon.net/2018/06/29/linear-power-supplies-for-audiophiles-getting-closer-to-live/Best Regards from the old Germany, Alexander

I have read of users having trouble with SACD 5.1 channel surround playback on the XMC-2, specifically not being able to get anything more than stereo output from 5.1 channel surround discs. As someone with a significant number of SACD (and DVD Audio) 5.1 channel surround discs to enjoy, this is major deal (or deal-breaker) for me. Anyone out there experiencing SACD multi-channel audio playback issues using the XMC-2?
Thanks much for your input, as I am contemplating the XMC-1 to XMC-2 exchange.

Using oppo 93, i have no problem except that its always on Direct DSD mode and i couldn't chamge it That's normal with dsd dac's yellowbalt ; the dsd isn't converted to lpcm which would be necessary for dsp's ;bass management etc to be applied That's why your locked to direct dsd mode - no bass management in this mode...just full range for your 5.0/5.1 sacd's Needless to say 5 large floorstanders equidistant from the MLP is best for time delays and low frequencies .. To paraphrase Lonnie If you want to manipulate the signal just set the player to decode to lpcm . Most sacd dsd has been in lpcm form in editing or mastering at one point anyway Some like the straight conversion in the dac anyway; YMMV

I like to compare the tech with other examples Alexander and I like the specs of the SMPS used in the popular XPA series of power amps Ile wait until some AP specs are published to compare to the XMC1'S [sooner the better eh ] ; even how a toroid is wound can have a deleterious effect in comparison. I wonder if the balanced circuitry in the new pre pros is connected to the common mode noise reduction referenced in this quote I came across below ? forum.audiogon.com/discussions/toroidal-vs-non-toroidal-transformers

I'm having this issue as well with my Onkyo SACD player. The XMC-2 shows DSD 5.1 but then only outputs Stereo. Also isn't playing the whole song stuff is missing. I was able to switch to the DSD stereo layer and it played back fine but having issues with 5.1 content.

I played an SACD today on my Oppo 203, mine is setup to default to DSD Multichannel, and that’s what it played, definitely not stereo; the RMC-1 reported DSD Direct. I was able to switch my 203’s setup to stereo and it also played correctly, but I’m not having any trouble with SACD Multichannel (sounds great!) Both my 2.0 & 5.1 Modes are set to Auto, and HDMI 2.0 (because I’m normally playing UHD disks). yellowbalt reported his Oppo 93 also worked so possibly a setting or issue with the Onkyo?

View AttachmentI’ve tested several different multi-channel 5.1 SACD’s(Bily Joel: The Stranger & 52nd Street, Al DiMeola: Flesh On Flesh & Consequence Of Chaos, and Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms), all play as they should in DSD Direct mode. They were played in the Oppo BDP-83/93/203 with each player using their latest firmwares for HDCP 2.2/HDMI 2.0 compatibility.

A little lost with all the discussion ....... Has anyone tried setting the player to convert to PCM and output 5.1 over HDMI that way? I do this with my OPPO205 and XMC-1 and never have an issue with recognizing the correct mode. No issues with streamed multichannel, SACD, DVD-A or Bluray Audio.

I know my Onkyo worked fine with my Marantz but I'm going to try a different hdmi cable and changing the setting to the older hdmi standard as this is a older dvd player (that supports SACD and DSD over HDMI) so it isn't HDMI 2.0. I will give these a try and let you guys know my findings.

I am hoping to get some help from existing XMC2 owners. How is it working in day to day use? Is there a list of outstanding issues as far as day to day reliability? I have had an XMC1 hooked up for about 3 weeks and it is working well in a living room 2.0 setup. I really want to get the XMC2 just need it to work reliably before purchase. Thoughts from current owners?
