THAT's what a high end speaker is supposed to do. Some do it far better than others though.

That means that this time you chose wisely. HOLY COW!!! and WOW!!! are what you should say when you hear a good high end audio system. The next time you are in a best buy, or any other electronics store like that, listen to every demo combination of speakers/receivers they have in the store. None of them will sound as good as what you have in your living room now.

So who's been plugging my ears all these years?
The sounds on movies with the new system is ear opening.
The sound of metal on metal is clear and sharp.
Gunfire is so distinct.
Explosions are so startling.
You don't know what you are missing until you aren't missing it anymore.
In comparison what I have been hearing in the past is all mushy.
I was never a fan of action movies but the action scenes are so much more fun... so much more real now.
I don't know if it is more the constant power of the XPA-5 or the accuracy of the ERT-8.3 ERM-6.3 ERD-1 SVS Sub Woofer PB12-NSD but all of it working together is really so much more than I expected or even hoped for.

Congrats on your new system! We Florida guys must think alike, I have the same setup except for an Outlaw LFM-1EX! I still might get a pair of ERM-1s on closeout to expand to 7.1, Emotiva rocks!

Congrats on your new system! We Florida guys must think alike, I noticed that you are the senior Florida member. I didn't even know about your name when I chose mine. I used the same one I had on other forums. We sure did get a lot of rain here today. Very unusual for us.

I'm down the road in Ft Myers, the rain held off until around dinnertime. Good thing too, we poolboys hate it when it rains!

With fortuitous timing a friend of mine who is a Netflix member had the opportunity to give out free one month memberships: I took advantage and have been enjoying my free DVDs and plan to subscribe when my month is over. After being shaken by the effects in the 3rd installment in the Mummy series I put on a concert DVD planning to enjoy a couple of songs. Well the concert is over and I'm not in bed yet. If you like their music you will probably love "An evening with the Dixie Chicks." www.netflix.com/Movie/Dixie_Chicks_An_Evening_With_the_Dixie_Chicks/60027179?lnkce=seRtLn&trkid=222336&lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=1368871319_0_0&strackid=5a11411ef6d577cb_0_srlIt's all about the music. Very little concert fluff. It's not the first concert video I got from Netflix but by far the best. At times I could feel the guitar picks rolling off the strings. The detail, precision, clarity, and dynamics of their vocals... Just everything... Just like with HDTV where you are distracted from the content by the quality of the picture... I was distracted from the song by the quality of the instruments and voices. I know that there are always compromises in design but that I could be so consecutively impressed by movie special effects and musicality. The folks at Emotiva have done some things right.

I don't think you'll get any disagreement from those on here on that . Or from anyone who has actually listened to the Emotiva gear. I'm looking forward to hearing the ert's when I am down at emofest over labor day weekend.
I've been involved with high end audio for 30 years and have heard or owned all of the major gear from the high end companies. In all that time I have never found a high end audio company that delivers the type of performance that Emotiva has been able to , at a price that redefines the market.

As I get more and more of my CD collection ripped into my Squeezebox... Saturday night I can listen to music as long as I like and don't have to worry about getting up for work in the early morning...
I keep saying to myself "I've never heard this song like this before." The tight bass, the detailed highs... Drums that sound like drums... songs I didn't even especially care for before I find myself just enjoying the sounds of the instruments.
I was reading a forum members review of the XPA-5 earlier this evening and found myself thinking "I have no idea if it is the amp or the speaker creating the effect but I sure don't regret spending the money to get this enjoyment."
21 years ago I was expecting the kind of experience I am getting now and was disappointed. It was worth the wait.
A neat realization tonight. I like the PLII Music effect and the 7-Channel Enhanced effect of my RX-663V but I also like to put the receiver on "Pure Direct" and hear exactly what was recorded. When I do the receiver turns off and a blue light comes on that matches perfectly with the blue lights on my XPA-5. Which is quite appropriate because when it is in that mode all I'm hearing is what the XPA-5 is effortlessly pushing through my Emotiva ERT-8.3 speakers.
When the room is all blue, it is all Emotiva. ;D
I was telling strindl on the phone the other day that what I like most is that I don't have to ask myself... "yeah this is great but is it worth the $4,000 more I paid to get it " because I paid less than I expected to get it.
Happy 4th everyone!

Oh yeah, one more thing... When I had my old system I would occasionally play music on my computer out of my Altec Lansing speakers and say... Hmmm... those speakers do a pretty good job for their size compared to my regular speakers....
I happened to play a song from my recently downloaded Foobar2000 out of those Altec Lansing speakers....
Oh ho ho... Hee hee hee... Ha ha ha... good lord!!!! What a pathetic excuse for music that was...
;D ;D ;D
Word to the wise... If you can't afford Emotiva, don't listen to Emotiva. You are better off not knowing what you are missing.

Good things come to those who choose wisely. Now you are experiencing high end audio and video and your reactions are, I think, what we all went through the first time we had a really good system in our homes.
I've been a proponent of having some multi channel or ambiance speakers with my music since the 70's. What was available then was of course, far more crude than things like the Dolby Pro Logic II Music that we have today. Almost all of my music listening on both of my surround capable audio systems is done with PLII surround processing. I have mine dialed in exactly as I like it, and it sounds fantastic.
Get ready to be blown away again once you get that Oppo hooked up.

and the answer is "D" "All of the above". Good speakers like the emotivas require good power amps to sound their best. They would sound good being driven by the power amps built into your Yamaha receiver, but not nearly as good as what you are hearing with them driven by a proper external power amp like the XPA-5. Isn't the world of high end audio and video fun?

So my Oppo Blue Ray player arrived yesterday and my initial amateur impressions are that the sound quality is more noticably better than expected compared to the sound of a DVD.
However, I haven't actually played a Blue Ray that I have experienced on DVD yet.

I had a really bad day at work todyay. I was thinking that I would be so stressed that I wouldn't be able to enjoy my new system.
I'm finding that the impact of the music is doing a fantastic job of drowning my sorrows!
Thank you Emotiva crew!!

Emotiva = Ridiculously good!
I mean really... I've never heard a $20.000 system but I can't imagine it being worth the money.
Impact - SOLID Bass - Detail
Buy it. Spend it. You'll love it.
If you can't afford it. Don't listen to it. No need to torture yourself.
If money is no object for you, well maybe, but I haven't and won't go there because I don't want to know. I'm in Emophile bliss!

I'm in Emophile bliss! Those are all good things. Your gear is well past the point of diminishing returns. In other words, spending twice as much will not give you twice as good sound...not by a long shot. In fact, many people do spend twice as much and not get the sound quality you have in your living room now. You are also a bit ahead of the curve in the use of a music server like the duet system. That's how everyone will be listening to their music real soon.

yes you have. Oh yeah! I forgot about yours. Actually I didn't realize it cost that much. Well, I certainly didn't audition any like that in my quest for my new system.
