I am posting to offer my apologies to you. Nothing against you but I just don't like that song! No problem. It's just that the next time I hear it I want it to bring back the fond memories. I don't want it to conjure up thoughts of "Why do those guys dislike it?" Now back to the fun of us discussing our great Emo gear. That's true.. I sure don't want to tarnish your memories! Just transfer everything I said to Cher and her buffalo warbling. ;D

My alltime most-cringeworthy tune is Barry Manilow's Copa Cabana.."his name is Rico"......brings out the gag reflex out of me every time

So I'm watching another Blu Ray movie tonight. I'm enjoying the quality of the picture very much but what keeps jumping out and grabbing me it the quality, clarity, detail, and impact of the sound.
You know if I was sitting in a store watching this demo I would not be able to wait to get this system home so I could enjoy it all the time. Like at the end of a long, hard, but productive week at work.

I'm enjoying it! ;D Well, someone's gotta use the golf course when you guys are working, right?

There was an unexpected casualty of my Emotiva purchase.
A bit of explanation is required: Nearly a year ago my company relocated my work offices and I now have an hour commute each way. To help mitigate the costs I am car pooling with other casualties of the relocation. To keep the peace we do not play any music while we drive.
This weekend during a long drive to visit a friend I turned on the stereo for the first time since my Emotiva gear arrived.
My car stereo is now totally trashed! The singers all sound like they have socks in their mouths. The bands are made up of imitation artificial guitar like mush sounds etc.
The vocals are tolerable but the so called bands are... the only word that comes to mind is MUSH.
I even noticed the difference on the annoucers voice on FM compared to RadioIO on my Squeezebox.
I mean really, I turned it on without too much thought and I found myself spontaneously thinking "What is wrong with this thing?!"
I never had that experience with my old home stereo system.

It's a vicious circle isn't it. A few months after I set up the Emo Ultra combo (LMC-1/LPA-1), my wife made me replace the entire car system because it just didn't sound "good enough" anymore.

A few months after I set up the Emo Ultra combo (LMC-1/LPA-1), my wife made me replace the entire car system because it just didn't sound "good enough" anymore. I remember when I first bought the car I was planning to put in an after market stereo system. I listened to it for a while and thought "This factory, designed for my car, system sounds pretty good I don't think I need to spend the money."

That means you are officially an audiophile now....you've been spoiled. I haven't put an afterrmarket sound system in any of my vehicles since the 80's though. It's not worth it...I just do my serious listening at home and leave my vehicle for AM talk radio. My Lexus came with a 14 speaker Mark Levinson branded system that actually sounds pretty decent with music. It's still not as good as listening at home.

I don't own on but I have heard the ML stereo systems in the Lexus . . they do sound excellent .

It's the best sounding system I have ever heard in a vehicle. I've had Corvettes that came with a fancy Bose integrated system that actually didn't sound too bad, and I had some after market systems in vehicles in the 70's and 80's, but none of those can hold a candle to the ML on in the Lexus.
It's not the sort of system where neighboring vehicles shake at stop lights..I hate those.....but it has good solid musical sound. It came with a DVD player with lcd screens in the dash and dropping out of the ceiling in back..and it does a pretty decent job with DD surround in movies too.
Still not as good as listening on a high end home system though.

I was in Best Buy today and wandered into the Magnolia Room where they had a concert DVD playing. I used to think "I'd sure like a system like that at home." Today I found myself thinking ""I'd sure like to hear what that sounds like on my system at home."
I'm about to see if I can get it from NetFlix.
EDIT: Success!

So tonight I tried NetFlix's video streaming for the first time. Can you say "car stereo"? Yowsa, I'm spoiled by Blu Ray. I suspect I will use it as a preview only vehicle. Once I decide that I like the movie I will stop watching it and put the DVD/Blu Ray in my Queue to be delivered.

hmmm...I wonder how far away we are from a viable solution... Prior to ordering my Oppo I considered this but they don't have enough movies yet and their future is questionable. www.vudu.com/

I think all of our entertainment content will come on line at some point..it just makes so much sense. We're not quite there yet where blu ray is concerned. For now, having your own blu ray player gives you the best quality and most variety of content.

I am having a very interesting experience tonight. I am loving NetFlix as a try before you buy deal.
I bought a concert DVD (not Blue Ray) by one of my favorite artists after trying it, and loving it, with NetFlix.
Tonight I am trying another concert DVD by the same artist. It was instantly apparent to me that the recording quality is not up to the standards of the one I own.
It needed some help so I turned on the "7ch Enhanced" mode of my RX-V663.
The concert was a compilation of a concert tour with parts of the DVD taken from various locations.
What I am finding so interesting is that I can tell the difference in the sound quality at the different venues where they played. I find myself hoping to see certain outfits that were worn at the venues that have the best sound.
I definitely do not recall being able to make these kinds of distinctions pre-Emo.
Of course, you have to take the good with the bad. It's a lot harder to enjoy this concert knowing how much better the other one sounded. It used to be I'd just be happy that a favorite song was being played.
The DVD I own is played at a very intimate "Performing Arts" type theater. Tonight's was played at various stadiums around the country. That kind of thing didn't used to matter.
