Add a DWM mid-woofer and maybe you won't need a massive sub? Depending on how large a space? You might need but one. I suspect the LRS is a bump over what my buddy has..... A pair of Magnestand Modified MMG. They are in wooden frames and have a Peter Gunn modiefied crossover as well. Really nice sound. I'm not a big fan of the Magnepan Series Crossover. No way to biamp since all the new speakers, of the X.7 line appear to have but one set of amp imputs. If I upgraded my panels from my 1.6s, I go to 3.6 which has a true ribbon....and as such is considered one of the finest of its type. I love line source speakers. www.integracoustics.com/MUG/MUG/tweaks/peter_gunn/mmg.htm

Also the LRS is called such because its a "Little Ribbon Speaker". Unlike the small panels of the past the LRS is ribbon "The LRS is a full-range quasi-ribbon speaker that was designed from the ground up to give you a pretty good idea what to expect from the 20.7 or 30.7

couple things to think about.
DWM is NOT a sub. It is a bass panel but doesn't extend to 'sub' range. The fullness of the DWM adds both warmth and body to the presentation. And fills out the lower octave. Not to be confused with Lowest. Besides, music pretty much doesnt' need anything below high 20s, anyway, except for a few special organ pieces. The REL is supposed to be one of the good ones so your bottom octave is safe. Magnepan claims 40hz to 200hz response for th DWM, hardly down in 'sub' territory. I'd expect your REL to help down to maybe 20, for movie effects.
LRS is NOT a ribbon speaker, unless you buy into the Magnepan advertising of the meaning a 'Quasi'....... They are selling like the proverbial hotcakes. For the 650$ ask? Difficult to beat. In this case and other QR speakers? A flat ribbon replaces the round wire. The BIG advantage is that it sticks much better to the mylar substrate. Magnepan was the product of Jim Winey who at the time of his first prototypes and invention, worked for 3M. So he used 3M 77 adhesive and later coatd the wire with Milloxane. Magnepan won't ship you that stuff in the winter since it'll Freeze and be ruined. I've experimented with 3M 77 and it is terrible stuff. Sticks real well to itself but in everything else I tried it with? It eventually gave up and un-stuck or delaminatd. Check out some DIY Magnepan sites, like MUG or Audio Asylum and read up on what the hard-core DIY guys are doing to fix delaminating wires.
