So I received my XMC-1 last week, and waited a few days to hook it up until I had my system configured properly. Bottom line: No buyer's remorse!! The difference when plugging in my TEAC to the XMC vs. the Marantz was dramatic. The TEAC sounds really nice through the XMC-1 balanced in. Also I have to say movie dialog is clearer--this is a nice plus, and a complement to the XMC D/A. But what I'm really excited about it comparing the Emotiva USB streaming to my TEAC--there seems a difference, but I might be fine with the Emotiva for streaming from my Roon ROCK. Without having yet done any critical listening tests, my first impressions are that the Emotiva USB streaming sounds a bit brighter, but very punchy and very clear. The TEAC has been said to be much closer to the "analog" sound that many have been looking for--in the same way people speak about the PS Audio Directstream DSD. I compared the TEAC side by side with the DirectstStream several months ago. If money were no object I would on the DirectStream. But money is an object and with my system the difference was subtle. So I think the TEAC might be more to that softer side than the XMC-1, but I can't say right now that I prefer one or the other. And I am not averse to selling the TEAC if the XMC does the job for me.
I also am performing some upgrades on one of my amps--how this turns out may also influence my choice between the TEAC and Emotiva for streaming. But the fact that I'm even considering this says something about my impression of the XMC-1.And in any case I'm very happy with XMC-1, and really happy I made the plunge. Ron

...if anyone is looking for a streaming solution and they already own an XMC-1 or better, they should consider <$500 invested in Roon ROCK (+ the cost of Roon subscription)--the sound is very nice via USB streaming through the Emotiva. The USB streaming capability is a huge + for the Emotiva IMO.

I concur, you just reminded me, this is exactly what I noticed when I replaced my Rotel RSP-1570 with my XMC-1 (hdmi v1.4), the HT dialog, in fact anything that I use with Dolby PLxx Movie, the centre speaker just pops out at you like the person is in the room. And that through a Dynaudio Contour SCX which is very revealing. I love my XMC-1, I just wish it had 4k pass through, its proving to be a real pia.

Thanks for reminding me. Just like Mrs. Choat on Seinfeld, "I change my vote" (When the condo board was voting to remove Morty Seinfeld as president of the board). I changed my vote from Keep my XMC-1, to Buy XMC-2.
