Daytona starts in a little bit, who’s your driver? For the race? For the season? Don’t care?
The “Beast” will try to make it up to 100 mph as the pace car. 🤞 Anybody think it’ll make it? Perhaps a note of interest, The First Lady will bein the Beast for that lap!

I'd like to see Martin Truex get a 2nd championship, but these days I care less and less about NASCAR. The current "Chase" format is, to me, a laughable joke meant to maintain TV ratings until the end. But, I think it's ridiculous that someone could be trouncing everyone in the regular season by winning every single race by 10 laps...then end up not being the champion. That is ridiculous to me. I know they put the Chase in place to avoid the champion being crowned too early and keep interest in the series until then last race, but for me it did the opposite. It turned me off. And, I've been a fan since I was old enough to know what racing was.
As for the Beast...I noticed they didn't let 22,000 pounds of armor up on the banks. Good idea...

Mark I agree with you about the format! Don’t like it at all! Stupid IMO! The Beast was a nice touch! I’m guessing it won’t approach 100 mph without a push! 😋

I'm not a NASCAR follower myself but a friend of my really is. This will be the first time he will not be at the Daytona 500 in 17 years. He goes every year to it as well as many other NASCAR races.

Did he not go due to the format change or finances? I’ve never been but I’m sure it can get rather pricy going to those events.

He didn't go because of costs, I think he said he spends about $4,000 now to go to the 500 with all costs added up. He normally flies there for a week gets a hotel, rents a car, see's multiple races and the cost of everything is marked way up of course. He said last year he wasn't going to go but still went, this year he didn't go but I think he's going to go to 2 other "cheaper" races he usually doesn't go to this year to make up for not going to the 500.

If you mean the Beast Beast, it is a GMC platform made to look like a Cadillac. Armored and made for the bad that can happen, going around a track was not really its claim to fame. Nor would it really have to be. As for NASCAR? I don't really care for NASCAR anymore and have been disillusioned about most racing for years. Decline in racing, the racers I don't care about. Politics that are stupid and do nothing for the sport. I have been enjoying the Rolex series of racing though especially the prototypes and the the Bridgestone Challenge series as those are cars that most likely I could identify on the street. Most racing cars are template specific formulas that will never see the light of day on the street as I would know them.
Another interesting form of racing is E Formula. I am really digging what is possible there. Traditional racing for the most part is dead to me. When you don't have Parsons, Petty, Unser, and so on. Who really cares? Now it is about *bleep* fighting, sponsors pulling out, and just a whole bunch of stupid stuff. Much better racing to watch if you know where to look.

President Trump was there as grand marshal for the race, he did a fly over in Air Force One and then rode onto the track in the presidential motorcade for a warm up lap.

Seems every sport has playoffs where the season champ may not make it. I think NASCAR just went with what all others do. They do now give a season champ 15 playoff points, runner up gets 10. This mad a difference last year when Kyle Busch go into the last race on points and then won.
My drive is Kyle Busch. Liked him when he first started driving and Jimmy Johnson was winning everything. Kyle has more total wins in all series than anybody and may have a chance to be 2 or 3 (nobody will get 200 Cup Wins again) in total wins in Cup before he retires.

It feels too rigged to me. Maybe it's the fact that in NASCAR, you could be leading in the final race by a lap going into the very last lap of the race, and someone you weren't even really racing (a backmarker) could take you out by accident and your championship would be over if you can't finish the final lap ahead of one of the other champ contenders. At least in the Superbowl, if you're in the last quarter and ahead with 20 seconds to go and possession of the ball, if the defense takes out your QB - you'll still likely win the game. I mean, it's not like the 1 thing makes you take your team off the field and let the other team have a chance to score. But, that's how it is in NASCAR. Mark

I'm a big race fan have been since 1987, my first driver was Ricky Rudd, then I picked Jimmy Johnson, and Danica Patrick, Danica retired so now Jimmy is on his last season I'm sad. Think I'll go with Chase Elliot next.
