Hmmmm... Emotiva has apparently become a purveyor of diy “solutions”.... DIY off the shelf hardware / software solutions. Oh my. - Rich

Hair Nick, KeithL or any other Emotiva resource who would like to respond.... - With a thread labeled "Dirac Live - Success as Last" what does this mean for Emotiva processor owners waiting on Dirac? This thread only seems to give an idea of what we can expect, not when or how other information will be shared.
- Has there been consideration given to sending an email to processor owners instead of making a thread post about missing features for owners? I'm thinking of those who don't frequent The Lounge. I only found out about this from a text from a friend who read it on AVS.
- When should we expect to see the blackbox?
- Is there a FW required to the RMC to enable Dirac even with the blackbox?
- Has the 30-day return window started?

Below is an update post by Jessica from 7 hours ago. Her words definitely bring into question the uncertainty of the day to day operations, which includes shipping. So I would guess that most if not all of your "when" or "how" questions just can't be answered due to the many factors that this CoronaVirus brings. Hello everyone, Nashville Metro just got the "shelter in place" order today (Sunday). Being one county over, we may follow the same rules soon. If that happens, we'll have limitations and restrictions on keeping our warehouse and shipping going. If you were planning on ordering something DO IT NOW. We may be able to continue this week, or we might have to hit pause. We want to keep everyone safe, and will gladly follow whatever rules needed to keep our community healthy. Full disclosure though, we're a family-run small business, and like many other businesses, we're nervous at the moment. Jessica

Thanks for sharing, but again this is exactly why I have the questions I do. It's almost as if I need to constantly be monitoring all sections of The Lounge to know what is going on regarding a product I own. To be clear, I am not asking for a date, I'm asking what the plan is. Several people have been asking about Dirac and now we get a "Success at Last" thread but no mention of how the "success" will be implemented. Covid-19 shouldn't prevent them from sending out an email to owners about their plan. Are they planning to start building the black boxes once restrictions are lifted? Do they have the parts for the black boxes or is the world supply chain currently causing issues? Or maybe the boxes are already built and once possible they will start shipping. The range could literally range from they can't get the parts to build the boxes to they shipped them all out Friday. We literally only were told that an outboard box is required (which I'm ok with) but no other details. As an owner I only found out because a one time RMC-1 interested buyer (who has now purchased a competing product) saw a post on another forum and sent me a text asking if I knew what was going on.

Pretty sure nobody is disputing the fact peoples safety is first and foremost. I certainly am not asking for anyone to risk anything. I'm asking if emails could be sent. I'm asking if there is a plan? I am asking for some clear communication and let us know if there is a plan. As I said, I am not asking for a date. I don't care if I'm told "we will start building when the last Covid-19 case is cured, whenever that may be." I atleast know there is a plan with that communication. But this cryptic communication is near worthless. It's like George Lucas saying in 1976, "So I wrote something today." But I guess if I'm the only one who wants to know if there is a plan and everyone else is happy with the communication, I'm the one making unreasonable requests so I'll stop asking and sit back and wait for people to tell me what I've missed.

We do need to first think of our country and every other country that is and will be dealing with this pandemic. It is a terrible tragedy that will change us all forever. May God Bless us all.
Deewan I am with you on this. You aren't being unreasonable at all with wanting more information. I would like more answers as well.

Thanks for letting us know we will need a box and a summary of the reason behind it.
What's the plan of action once the pandemic crises subsides ?
(For example: Will we just receive the kit? Will we receive an email? Should we call to order?)

When this crazy pandemic is over, please manufacture and ship my module as soon as you can. The key word being WHEN.
Until then, I’m not that worried about it.
I’m sure you guys know who the buyers are. And those bought theirs secondhand, they just need to reach out to Emotiva.
The only thing I ask is that you prioritize existing buyers over new buyers, unless it’s not a problem to accommodate both.

Based upon previous experience with Emotiva, I am 100% positive that I will be contacted via email when Dirac is ready for me, including the tracking for the little black box. Or, will it be blue?

main question is when, if it's 6 to 12 months, so be it.
$3K to $5k spent should entitle to that at least to be answered.

main question is when, if it's 6 to 12 months, so be it. $3K to $5k spent should entitle to that at least to be answered. First of all, I do share some of your impatience about knowing when the Dirac package would be made available (although, to tell you the truth, I can't quite tell anymore from your postings whether you're more impatient to get rid of your XMC-2 in exchange for a refund, or to receive and enjoy the Dirac enhancement package for it ). With that said, I wonder whether you're being entirely fair with your expectations, especially with respect to your remark about $3K to $5k spent, given the COVID-19 related unknowns that are determining the very uncertainty you're questioning... (I'm referring here to Jessica's statement above, namely that "We don't have all the logistics sorted out mainly because of the global pandemic, and you're right, there are a lot of unknowns at the moment regarding timing which is out of our control.") Stating the glaringly obvious, I could add that there are multibillion $$$ industries, entire state and national economies, not to mention an untold number of human lives, facing similar quandaries, uncertainties, and all kinds of jeopardy because they're confronted with the same unknowns, and there seems to be no trick available that one can pull, however costly, to resolve these unknowns in the short term... So when you claim that $3 to $5k spent should provide some kind of entitlement to a piece of knowledge, which depends on a state of relative stability that cannot be established or secured even by multibillion dollar industries or national economies... See where I'm going with this? (I shall assume you do, and stop there) Mind you, I am just trying to argue in favor of some sense of perspective, and not to imply that $3K-$5K spent on a processor inherently amounts to chump change, or represents something one could easily sneeze at,,, Perspective, perspective, perspective....

Great news that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If the Black Box is PI based, who is responsible for updating the OS/App? As you know the Linux world evolves quickly and there are daily patches. Will this PI self update? I'm assuming you don't want to give everyone Root access and SSH control (I've bricked my fair share of PI's).
Thanks!

If it is a standard Raspberry Pi that is used then it would be possible to just make an image of the memory card accessible and I could myself download that and set it up in my system. Since I bought my RMC-1 in sweden I guess it will take a while to get the kit to here and in the meantime I could use my own RPi and get started with Dirac (just +1 year after delivery). If it is a certain version of RPi needed I could easily fix that here in sweden. Is Emotiva able to do that?

We didn't feel it is was necessary to email our large newsletter database for a progress update on Dirac. We posted it on our blog, the lounge, Instagram, and Facebook. When it is fully ready for rollout, then there will be an email blast, social media campaign, website announcement, and even carrier pigeons to all customers. We have an internal date set and we are doing everything we can to try and meet the deadlines we have in place but with everything happening right now, everything is still fluid. I can tell you all that we feel we are currently in the home stretch.

If there are changes to the API for Dirac bass management wouldn’t you need to update the black box? Considering that Dirac hasn’t completed the bass management module yet, there could be potential changes. That’s where I was coming from. I’d imagine this black box can handle the current API from Dirac 2.0 but I would guess there would be changes to the Dirac API for bass management. For MDS, since Dirac wrote the interface, the Dirac software update would have this baked in. We don't anticipate ever needing firmware updates. (However, all of the firmware is contained on an internal micro-SD card, which could potentially be replaced in a few seconds.)
The interface is necessary for the computer to talk to the processor..... but only when you're taking measurements or downloading filters. (The interface box is just a standard commercial processor, actually a Raspberry Pi, in a standard box... what we've been waiting for was the completion of the code for it.)
Will this Emotiva Dirac Live Network Interface (EDLNI) require firmware updates and if so how would that be done? Do we need it send it back and have it reflashed? I’m coming from the perspective of how EDLNI would work when Dirac Live Bass Management is rolled out for $249 or $399? Maybe I don’t understand the functionality and what I’m asking isn’t making sense and EDLNI can handle Dirac Live Bass Management as is. Also, I’m assuming this now needs to be manufactured, packaged and shipped. Well this explains why we weren’t offered to beta test Dirac - wouldn’t make sense and wouldn’t be possible without this interface.

It appears that the black box was created so Emotiva could work with one code train on known hardware to develop an efficient way to translate Dirac Live's Measurements into Emotiva's DSPs on the RMC and XMC2 processors. It could have been done via another application that would live on someone's personal computer, but then there would be multiple trains for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
I would imagine it can translate any Dirac Live measurement into the information that the DSPs need. Including any upcoming Bass Management measurements.

Have you however considered my proposition of realeasing the needed software to the Raspberry Pi as an downloadable Image so that we who know how to put that on a SD-card can get started quickly without having to wait for the hardware delivery. Especially for us on the other side of the big ocean i.e Europe were a lot of borders now are closed.
