When we started work on designing the RMC-1, and our entire line of new processors, our goal was to deliver the best possible performance and sound quality for our customers. One of the ways we chose to help us make that goal a reality was to incorporate the latest generation of powerful, cutting-edge DSP processors.
Based on the information we had when we started the project, and the fact that the Dirac software was already being incorporated into other processors that use older technology, we didn't expect it to be especially difficult to include the code required to support Dirac Live automatic room correction into our new line of processors. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be the case, and integrating Dirac Live into the RMC-1 family turned out to be a much bigger project than we'd initially anticipated, which has been the reason for all the delays. The final result of our labor has been the development of a small external hardware module, the Emotiva Dirac Live Network Interface, which facilitates communication between our processor and the Dirac Live software installed on your computer. It is a small device, with its own processor and code, that is connected to your network when you perform your Dirac Live room calibrations on your processor. It only has to be connected to your network when you're actually taking measurements, or using the Dirac software to create a new Dirac Live profile, and doesn't have to be connected when you're simply using your processor. Since it is an integral part of using Dirac Live with your RMC-1, RMC-1L, or XMC-2 processor, we will be providing it to our customers at no charge as part of the Dirac Live calibration package that comes with your unit. (Customers who have already received their processor will receive the new hardware at the same time as their Dirac Live license.)
Connecting the device to your network is very simple, it won't take up much space in your closet when you're not using it, we think the results are worth it, and we're sure you'll agree.

Now just need for the XMC-1 trade in for XMC-2 to become available again.

Was justing looking at REW and it seemed like it would be significantly more complicated. Keep us posted. Thank you and stay well.

Now that we've released this information I can give you a lot more details.
The Dirac Live Network Interface will be a little black box with an Ethernet connection.
It will have to be connected to the same network segment as your RMC-1 or XMC-2 by a wired connection. (Remember that the processor requires a wired Ethernet connection or equivalent.)
The kit that we'll be giving you will also include a small Ethernet switch. The simplest way to connect things will be to connect a single cable from your network to the switch... You will then plug both the Dirac Live Network Interface box and your processor into that switch... You will then have the option of plugging the computer where you're running the Dirac Software, and where the microphone is connected, directly into that switch as well... Or, if you prefer, you will be able to connect that computer to your network using WiFi.... which should work equally well in most situations.
This is the way we're recommending that you hook things up...
It's the way we've thoroughly tested, the way we know will work, and the way we will be able to fully support...
However, if you're network savvy, you'll recognize that there are other ways of connecting things that will also probably work. For example, if you have a very simple network, with everything plugged directly into switch ports on the back of your cable modem... Your RMC-1 will be connected with an Ethernet cable and your laptop will be connected using WiFi... In that situation, if everything is set up as it usually is, you may simply be able to plug the Dirac Live Network Interface box into one of the switch ports on your cable modem. However, if you have a more complex network, with multiple routers, or network extenders, the details may be much more complicated.

OK, the most obvious question! Or did I miss the answer?
When will Emotiva be shipping Dirac and its little black box?

Will we be able to use this wirelessly or is it wired only? Should we assume that it was easier to go this route as opposed to writing code to work directly with your DSPs? At a high level of course. I mean, I applaud the "thinking outside the box" on this one. Secondly, if it saves cost for Emotiva, I, as well as others I'm sure, don't need the switch. Do we have a rough estimate on when you guys are expecting to ship or allow us to come by to pick this stuff up? I imagine you wouldn't have released this info if it weren't ready to roll.

OK, the most obvious question! Or did I miss the answer? When will Emotive be shipping Dirac and its little black box ?The simple answer is that Emotiv e will never ship these. Emotiva will, though. But seriously... KeithL, let me make sure I understand. As with the old version of DIRAC with the XMC-1, DIRAC software will reside on a PC and we'll plug a mic into that. On the same network as the PC, the PC and the new "black box" will be in communication with DIRAC's systems to send data to/from the PC and/or black box - then end up with filters and relay those to the RMC-1/RMC-1L/XMC-2 (where the filters are stored for use) Is that basically it? I suppose the device could just be left connected and kept in the rack.

I plan to keep it connected to my switch and on my rack, probably tucked behind the XMC-2 so it's completely out of sight. With my XMC-1 I had a tendency to randomly want to play with Dirac, so no point in putting it away and pulling it back out every few months.

KeithL , Hair Nick One more question: What version of Dirac are we getting? Are the differences between "Dirac live," "Dirac full," and "Dirac Unison," still pertinent? Will this new arrangement and license give us access to any implementation of Dirac that we would like to use? If not, are there going to be upgrade options, through Emo or directly through Dirac Research? I am aware that the Dirac software/hardware/implementation package has evolved away from the models we knew when the XMC-1 was first released. I just want some clarity as to exactly what implementation we are now getting and what options (among the different ones offered. by Dirac Research) we might have access to. Thanks

Obviously, we'll have to see how this works, but at the moment, I have to say I'm very impressed with Emotiva's commitment to keeping promises made to us. First the XMC-1 to XMC-2 upgrade program, and now the external device to make Dirac work. I'm sure both of these programs ended up costing Emotiva more money than they originally planned when the made us promises. I've done my fair share of grumbling about Emotiva and delays, etc, but I keep coming back and recommending them to friends because of stuff like this. Kudos, guys. Thanks for helping me feel good about spending my hard-earned money with you.

Woooohoooooooooooooo, absolutely can't wait to get Dirac as I just don't have the time to invest in REW at the moment.
Question:
How will international customers be handled? Obviously everyone is keen to get their hands on the hardware and licences, are you planing on shipping in batches or all at once?
Good work and thanks again!

Will there be a future version of the platform that includes the black box in the unit, or is that not an option.
