I'll give Emotiva a pass right now in Dirac and any deadlines. Global supply chains are a hot mess right now with really only the bigger vendors getting much support. Its honestly impressive that Emotiva still has product available to sell given how dependent their supply chain is on China. Simply a clarification question.. You mention product, and I'll agree on that one. From the data (updates) we've been given on Dirac through, it is still going through code development. This doesn't normally take being in any particular location. If people are sick, by all means... They get a pass for that. This post isn't meant, in any way, to discount the actual challenges of this virus. In saying that, you can write code from anywhere with a keyboard or pen and paper. This has been on my mind for a while, and I'm trying to wrap my head around how this situation would delay Dirac aside from possibly shipping beta units and finalizing hardware, packaging and logistics around final delivery to the customer. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm on video chats daily with my customers and team working about the same as usual. Unless touching a lot of hardware is involved, there really shouldn't be much of a delay if the ball is firmly in their hands. Coding should not be slowed down by CV-19 very much. I'm thinking more of the production of the little black boxes.

Yes. Well Emotiva said they were done with the coding.
Unless their definition of done means they have completed the coding and unit testing and now they need to still QA the code.
This is the part that I’m not a big fan of.
For example, for firmware, completed code that’s ready to be deployed may be considered done on their end, but on the consumer side (our end), it’s considered done when that firmware ready to be downloaded.
Similarly, the Dirac solution was never done from our perspective, it’s only done after we receive it. Until it’s in our hands, Emotiva is still working on it.
At least until it’s shipped I guess. I don’t want any updates- just want the shipping date. I’m not interested in any other progress - because it doesn’t help me until I physically have the black box AND I have my license.

I get your desire for shipping, and that's cool. I think others are just looking for feedback due to the dates previously given. And, I believe it was said that it was "pretty much or pretty well done" by someone not really involved in the coding if my memory serves me correctly. I mean no offense or negativity around that statement. I'm just stating that it was vague and "third party" information to begin with. For those that care, still writing code at this moment means deadlines were missed. If it has been beta tested and is sitting on a hard drive waiting to be pushed down once all the logistics are taken care of, then I feel it is reasonable to be understanding of that. No matter what the reasoning is, or who is to blame, Dirac has been in development for 18 months or more. Over-communicating at this point couldn't hurt. That's just my opinion. It's about the lowest common denominator here. You gotta cast out the easiest customer and the hardest customer, and then aim for making the lowest common denominator happy. I may be saying this backwards as I'm typing while walking. I think everyone will get what I'm trying to say here. "Risk mitigation" I type this after spending about 10 mins on Anthem's website knowing full well that I want badly to stick with this product and support a local, small business down the road from me.

After more than a year with Dirac coming soon, it's doubtfull what the statement that it will be ready "in a few weeks" means. Few weeks could be month again. I think it wouldn't be so hard to give a more detailed statement. I don't want a exact date right now, since I understand that this will be difficult right now considering the global situation. But a statement about the status of the developement would be nice. For example "the code and programming is finished and we are just waiting for the external boxes" or "the code is not ready right now, we have to work out some bugs". I guess the code is not ready right now, otherwise I assume they would have said so here.

It seems we always end up here, wanting more information about a product (or feature) release. I came in when the XMC-1 was being discussed and these same conversations ensued, others may have discussed the UMC before that. I even started a thread about building an App for the XMC-1 three years before it was released! The RMC’s and XMC-2 were the same.
If they give a little info, it’s not enough, if they don’t give any they’re being tight lipped. Yes, we’d all like to know how it’s doing, but it won’t change anything and after all the speculation (and some condemnation) when they announced the LBB, why would they want to say more?
I’m drinking beer and burning some wood, fortunately you’re all safe ...

I’m drinking beer and burning some wood, fortunately you’re all safe ... There is only one thing that will change it. I'm not suggested this should happen, but if we weren't buying the product until it was finished, it would be finished quicker. I think some of these financial incentives to buy at times sucks us in. It did me. I was impatient and really wanting an upgrade since it had been 11 years. With a 40 off card, and the end of the year financial offerings, I jumped in. The amps and speakers have kept my overall opinion high enough to stay with it for a while longer. I just wish the effort, or the expectation was "right sized". Start delivering or stop promising. Either one is fine. People will make better informed decisions.

They usually get it (mostly) right in the end, but this song and dance has been going on with their processors since the beginning. I had an LMC-1 back in the mid 2000's (2006, maybe?). I also had a UMC-1, and and XMC-1, and now the XMC-2. You either have to accept it for what it is, or move on to someone else. I've almost moved a couple times (especially with the UMC-1, the only product I felt burned by), but like I said, in the end they do enough to make things right, and the positives outweigh the frustration - at least for me. After 15 or 20 years of doing things they way they do thing, I wouldn't expect them to change. They are very optimistic with their timelines. I've learned to completely ignore that bit. It saves me a great deal of mental anguish.

I hope to enjoy this processor for a decade at minimum with not much headache, but if this stuff doesn't change, it will be very difficult to stick with their processors. It's quite difficult to justify all this pain that you know won't change because it sounds so great.

When do we get It.the little black box in Europa Nobody has heard yet, and the last we did here - the global impacts of COVID-19 have slowed things down a bit. I'd love to hear an update from Emotiva on this topic myself. Mark

Be careful what you wish for with Anthem. I good friend had their top of the line receiver that developed a problem with one or two of the amp channels going out. They did repair it under warranty, but he was not happy that it had failed after less within a year of ownership. He also liked their room correction, but was not completely pleased. Granted, he is a perfectionist with a big bank account because he has moved on to a Lyngdorf MP-50. Big bucks and I have not been able to see it with this darn virus!

Hi Keith & Nick,
Can you provide any updated expectations on delivery of DIRAC for the XMC-2? In early April, it was looking like it would be a few weeks. Has the project progressed like you anticipated?
Thanks, Blue
