HK MAS Speakers / Yard Sale
The reviews for the whole all-in-one system were not good, but folks said the speaker sounded good. You seem to find nice bargains, Boom.

No, I wouldn't have wanted the all-in-one system, but I did audition the speaker and it sounded better than expected for the money. With a subwoofer and the 90 Hz. crossover of the PT1 preamp, I'm hoping the speaker improves significantly.

Got one for my son as a present a couple of years ago. Excellent value. No kidding, I've had a slight preference for Focusrite, but also have other Behringer stuff. Hard to beat this price, for about $300, and using a macOS aggregate device, I can record 8 independent channels & tracks simultaneously.

What brand of 12AU7 tubes came with it? I'm not sure, I thought I'd seen it somewhere but can't seem to find it now. I can't see the tubes now but when I get the new Brimar tubes to put in I will post what I take out as well as differences I hear. I'll probably be changing the tubes on Friday as long as I have them by then. Well I still don't know what 12AU7 tubes come with the BHK preamp stock. When I opened mine up to change the tubes I was surprised to see it did not have the original tubes installed but had a pair of Tungsram PCC88 / 7DJ8 installed and not a pair of 12AU7 tubes. The 7DJ8 tubes require a couple of jumper changes to use in place of 12AU7's and the Tungsram PCC88 / 7DJ8's are considered by many as the best sounding tube for the PS Audio BHK Signature preamp. The Tungsram's would have been my first choice to try as a tube swap but the Tungsram PCC88 / 7DJ8's are nearly impossible to find right now. However after some comparisons back and forth between the Tungsram's and the new Brimar's I bought, the Brimar's sound nicer than the Tungsram's. The PS Audio BHK Signature preamp I bought was barely used and in mint condition, there was no mention by the seller of any tube changes so I thought it most likely had the original tubes installed. I was pretty surprised to see the Tungsram PCC88 / 7DJ8's were in it. My first thought was that they were probably going to sound better than the Brimar CV4003 / 12AU7's I just bought, but I definitely like the Brimar's better.
Tomorrow I will try to find time to write a review of the PS Audio BHK Signature preamp, *spoiler* I like it a lot.

I might try some next time I feel like trying a tube swap. Right now I'm pretty happy with the Brimars I've just found but I'm sure to try a few more tubes as well down the line. I looked up Baldwin Organ tubes after seeing your recommendation, they seem to have been supplied by several different makers as well as in different styles and labeled Baldwin. I see Raytheon and Sylvania both as well as other makers supply 12AU7 labeled as Baldwin. I saw there are a few different 12AU7 Baldwin tubes listed on ebay and they aren't very expensive so it might be something to give a try to see how they sound.

Organ companies would source tubes from various manufacturers. They would take only the best to put their label on. RCA clear top tubes are considered one of the best 12AU7 tubes.

May I recommend Baldwin Organ tubes? I loved mine! I just ordered a pair from him after I visited his ebay page I receiving a discounted offer from him for $25 for a pair, free shipping but with tax so total was $26.94 for the pair, a very low price. I'm extremely happy with how the Brimar tubes sound and I think the Brimar's will probably be my keepers but I'd still like to hear and compare a couple others. The Brimar's sound amazing, very natural, my system has never sound this good, the PS Audio BHK Signature preamp is a great upgrade and the Brimar tubes really brought it to another level. The Brimar tubes have a more natural tone, bring on a stronger midrange and have a fuller, nicer sound than the Tungsram's did, a better balance all around and just sound extremely nice. The BHK has such a clear sound, beautiful imaging and separation like I've never heard before. Instruments and voices just have so much clarity and separation, every instrument and every voice have such a natural detail and clarity I've never heard before yet such a great musical flow and natural sound. I was going to write a full review of the BHK but with respect to Emotiva I decided the Emotiva Lounge wasn't the place to do it. I've written a few reviews here before but never for anything that was a product Emotiva sells and wasn't their product, so I decided this wasn't the place to do it. I'll just say it's an amazing preamp.

I'll just say it's an amazing preamp. I've bought a number of NOS tubes from Michelle. They have all been as described (and I have a tube tester to check what I buy). She does a great job all around. I almost bought a pair of Brimar from Viva Tubes in western MA about 1.5hrs from me - good, honest outfit. I forget if they were 12AX7 or 12AU7 but were billed as "The Holy Grail of tubes". I also bought a pair of 12AU7 Tungsram and RTF from them. I'm currently using the Tungram in the phase inverter position of my Bob Latino ST-120 amp.

I made myself a new speaker level sub cable, since my Velodyne sub can use dual inputs, line level and speaker level, I decided to try adding a speaker level cable with it. My Velodyne sub will use the speaker level inputs with this cable for music and both the speaker level and line level LFE input with my XLR cable together for home theater. After a little listening today I am happy with the results, sounds great.
I made this cable with 14 gauge copper wire, pure copper gold plated bananas and spades, TechFlex braided sleeving, cable pants, and some heat shrink tubing.
