That’s terrible, I’m getting closer everyday to selling and moving out in the middle of nowhere, great smoky mountains sounds like a nice place…..

I wish it were that simple. The world is too much with us, and no matter where we are, our neighbors (however many or few) will be there too. The full spectrum of human shortcomings, including envy, greed, lust, anger, and resentment are always with us, no matter how populous or remote our abodes.
The total population continues to rise, not only here, but worldwide. If but one in a million is, for example, a serial killer, then as we add another hundred million to the overall population, we also add another hundred new serial killers.
As one of my friends so aptly puts it, “Oh well…”

By the time I was born in 1955 the world population had doubled to 2 billion, information was moving 186,000 miles/sec, goods and people were moving 400 miles/hr. And here we are ... 8 billion people .... so much information that we can hardly parse the truth from the nonsense, more ways to live, and more ways to die ... oh well, indeed ...

I recently had my Magnepan MC1 surround speakers rewired with a modification that I hoped would resolve a loss of bass response. Well, the operation was a success but the patient died. The overall sound was improved with the foil runs, but yesterday a bass resonance became an audible "bark" at moderate listening levels. So the MC1's will go to the bedroom augmented with a sub. The LRS speakers will come down as surrounds ... hanging upside down from my latest purchase.

For the price of a forgettable plastic new camera. This Canon 1D-mk4 is about what you use when you are the Press and need the shot right now. So 10 frames a second if need be. Built like a tank. I got one with plenty of life left in it, has 1 year warranty, and easily 300,000 clicks. This on has over 3/5ths life left in it, and many pro bodies beat their estimated shutter count top rated.

But I have to say, except for environmental sealing, the Sony A1 just blows it out of the water.

I am a fan of Sony. I had an A7, now have an a6400 too. Sure I love all kinds of cameras, but I am a cheap son of a gun. EF glass is easy to get and cheap if you buy right. I expect the A1 to be stellar because it is.

That doesn't seem like it's close to all used up to me either! I used to photograph events and portraits in a previous life, and I would put about 80,000 on each body per year, so, nowhere near what a pro sports photog would put on a body. My digital life began in 2002 (after using medium and large format for the previous decades), so I had great success with no equipment failures at that rate until I left that world in 2010, and would only occasionally assist a good friend with his events just for fun over the next 6 or 7 years.

Apple HomePod speaker to replace the profoundly crappy speaker in my new Mac mini M2: Its a Mac Mini, shouldn’t have expected anything more. Let us know how you like your Airpod. Why aren’t you connecting the Mini to something more substantial? Just curious

Its a Mac Mini, shouldn’t have expected anything more. Let us know how you like your Airpod. Why aren’t you connecting the Mini to something more substantial? Just curious In a word - space. I could have installed a stereo satellite/subwoofer combo, but I'd have needed to make room on my computer desk for not one but TWO speakers and also found someplace to put the sub. Even if I did that, I wouldn't have room correction. The Apple HomePod is "environment aware" and applies its own room correction based on where you put it. It's essentially omni-directional and is less likely to draw attention to itselft as an audio device than any point-source speaker. It also works wirelessly (a big plus since my computer desk already has monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB breakout strip, and a variety of external hard drives). And the biggest plus for the HomePod - I had an Apple Store gift card laying around that paid more than half of the cost! I haven't set up the HomePod yet (there's a front coming through this morning and lightning is rocking & rolling). But I'll get it set up soon & see how I like it. Boomzilla Postscriptum - My previous MacBook Pro had MUCH better sound than the new mini. Maybe because I operated it with an external monitor and left the laptop screen open at about a 45 degree angle. This probably served as a horn for the speakers & coupled them to the air better. The mini has no such enhancement, although I could probably build an enclosure (maybe even of cardboard) that would serve the same purpose. I doubt that I'll bother though since I got the HomePod.

Keeping up with my beloved 2002 4.7 Durango….. The car is so well assembled that age related issues that are typical in old cars are a relatively easy fix. last month on a return trip from Delaware. My passenger side window regulator failed. The noise was very impressive. It seemed that the pulley inside the door broke, and then the cable got wrapped around and banged up inside the door. anyway, Amazon to the rescue, bought a regulator, and also the HVAC blower which was becoming intermittent.…… All is good.

I hope my 2022 Durango serves me as well as yours has! I’m sure that it will! Generation two was a very undesirable Durango. The new ones are awesome.

My apologies, I didn’t realize or I missed where the Mac Mini was for the office and not for audio room use.
