I don't get these with my XMC-2 and I also haven't set up Dirac yet, but I'm still on 2.1 (haven't had a chance to upgrade, hopefully this weekend). I used to get "chirps" and zaps within a movie, occasionally, with my MC-700, but that went away when I switched to premium cables. As I said in an earlier post, I do use Dirac with my XMC-2 and I don't have this popping behavior. Not sure what might be causing this issue. I am aware of what you said, and I wasn't replying to you.

The issue happens when switching from DTS to Atmos or the other way. It is far worse with Loudness enabled. I can try switching HDMI cables to see if that makes any difference but I had no issues with these cables with my old processor. I don't currently have ATMOS. I only tested the Loudness function and only on low volume. I did have one small "tick" on a rear speaker when switching to it. I believe Loudness should only be used for it's real intended purpose of low volume listening so as not to disturb others. It needs to be fixed, but maybe should be limited on how high a volume you can use it with.

I noticed that the dirac result sounded bright/harsh at volume so I turned it off and it sounds much better, smoother. So far pretty underwhelmed with dirac, have measured before/after and it doesn't even hit the target curve. Yes I've spent hours, different mics, etc. It's weird because it actually manages to leave whatever response bumps are there and somehow manage to make it sound worse. The firmware note says 30 seconds for network reset, my experience says two power offs, maybe I should wait a while, or go get coffee, or a snack. The good news is when the processor works, it sounds good. I'll probably do a full reset and not bother with dirac and see how things are, next time I have time. Adjust Dirac eq target to fix the harshness. Increasing mid bass and or bass can help. I don't touch anything over 2k. You can try different targets and see what works in you room/system. Isn't the raison d'etre of Dirac Live to compensate for measured room reflections and measured nulls/ reinforcements at the MLP, not to tweak and tinker the sound with knob twiddling (curtains, curves) I think that if you try and be too clever with Dirac, you are more likely to unravel and upset the result.

Not true. The default Dirac curve doesn't sound good in my system. For music, I have a slight boost starting a 500hz and down. At the lowest is about a +1.5db. In movies I run the similar curve as music with the exception of the sub getting a boost of about +5db. I have tried and experienced with a lot of curves and these are the best in my room with my speakers and ears. Everyone hears different. With these curves, my speakers sound crystal clear with a tight mid bass punch, no bloat low frequencies, and the sub blends perfectly.

So I was moving some components around/organizing some wiring in my rack and had to unplug my components and power down everything. Now I can’t get CEC working again. CEC works between the TV and Apple TV and Panasonic player but not the XMC. Power and volume will not work via CEC. No settings have changed and I have rebooted several time unplugging all the HDMI cables.
Everything else seems to be working as before and I have changed no settings.
Is there a reboot process that resets all the CEC handshaking to get everything “talking” correctly again?

I noticed a massive increase in bass, probably about +10dB on each sub, but that would make it align with my first run through Dirac upon release last year when the bass was -10dB after calibrating. I just used a spl meter and adjusted it down to match my left front output. I did not re-run Dirac. I have found that sometimes a massive increase in volume of a particular channel or pair of channels can come and go. I check levels with a SPL meter after every Dirac calibration and more than once I have seen the sub level be very high, back out of the menu and go back in and it's back to normal (and stays that way). This week I did the Dirac calibration three times and every time I downloaded filters Dirac crashed afterward, and the processor was in a state where the left/right channels (only) were loud. After a reboot the L/R were okay but when I checked the center level it was about 4db louder than it should have been. Backed out of the menu and went back in to Levels, and the center channel was normal. I replicated this twice today. Anyone who says they see an increase in the level of any or all speakers, I believe you. And anyone who says it mysteriously changed after a reboot or input change, I believe you too. Kind of more pointing to pre-Dirac versions where the Pink Noise output was for -10dB from media output for whatever reason. I ran my Dirac when I first received the kit on whatever version of Dirac Live was out at the time. I guess I could go about doing another Calibration and see if it replicates, but I'm lazy.

Not true. The default Dirac curve doesn't sound good in my system. For music, I have a near flat curve with a slight boost starting a 500hz and down. At the lowest is only about a +1db give or take. In movies I run the exact curve as music with the exception of the sub getting a boost of about +1db to +4db. +4 being the lower frequencies about 60hz. I have tried and experienced with a lot of curves and these are the best in my room with my speakers and ears. Everyone hears different. With these curves, my speakers sound crystal clear with a tight mid bass punch, no bloat low frequencies, and the sub blends perfectly. I wasn't referring to house curves which generally have an upslope or a raised plateau at the bass end. (Harman type) I used this myself. I was referring to using Dirac to adjust mid bass and low bass up to about 2000Hz which might have led people to use the target curve in the same way as one would use a parametric EQ. I know Dirac Live does have parametric EQ types of functions, but the ways it uses them are not transparent or measurable and they are mixed in with other things like retiming

NEED HELP Istalled 2.2 on the RMC-1 yesterday - all was fine until today. Was listening DSD over the oppo (HDMI 1), then wanted to switch to Roon (HDMI4 + Balanced IN). A dramatic very loud Bang Noise was heard - my DR3 went into Amber blinking. Error is repeatable as soon as I want to use Balanced IN - nothing is working - and don't want to repeat it. Because these very lood "bangs" could seriously damage my speaker. Any Idea is welcome.
Update
Went back to 2.1. All is good again. Very disappionting.

Unplugged all HDMI connections. Turned on the XMC and let it fully boot up then plugged in the HDMI connections. Turned on the Apple 4k, boom, works again.

Still a delay with the RMC-1 selecting codecs on HDMI ARC. Is this still flagged, getting attention and hopefully fixed in the near future?

Thanks to those who have shared their firmware v2.2 experiences. Here’s mine.
Firmware Update * I updated my XMC-2 from v2.1 to v2.2 today. * Right or wrong, I still take a very conservative approach to updating firmware (e.g. disconnect all sources). * I experienced no issues.
Initial Test Drive * We listened to TIDAL via Node 2i for 30 minutes. • We listened to Spotify via Apple TV for 5 minutes. * Watched 3.5 hours of Netflix UltraHD via Apple TV. * Watched YouTube for 15 minutes via Apple TV. * Watched 2 shows via Dish Hopper HD. * Ran out of time to try the OPPO 103D. * Note: I’m not running DIRAC right now.
Observations * My bass level, as well as all other levels remained the same as v2.1. * I didn’t experience any pops, clicks or loud blasts. * The XMC-2 feels slightly slower than v2.1 when switching to different sources, which is fine. * The sound is awesome!!!
I’ll update this post if anything changes over time.

FW-2.2 With my system being setup with LargeFronts and Dedicated LFE I'm getting grossly elevated bass in the Small channels. The bass for the Smalls is produced by both Fronts playing that bass since that is how the Bass Management in the processor handles this bass since there's no subwoofer channel assigned to send it to.
With FW-2.1 the Small bass played same as when both Fronts played together. Now with 2.2 it goes higher in level than the LFE channel, so it's way too much. I didn't know what I was seeing and thought something else must be wrong, so I reverted back to 2.1, saw that things measured about what I was used to, then updated back to 2.2 and still didn't believe what I was seeing, but kept getting the same results. Bass is too high in the Small channels playing through the LargeFronts.

I re-ran DIRAC and the overwhelming bass still persist. In 2 channel I do reference stereo. I have not tried 2 channel yet with 2.2. Right now sounds like a great time to experiment though. Results to come shortly!

My 2 channel set up is a pair of Mirage OMD-28’s (dual 8” woofers) on a DR-2. The extra bass actually blends in pretty well in this set up. Listening to Metallica S&M2 on Amazon HD music through a bluesound node i2. Volume level is about 103dB looking at my app on my phone.

Seems impossible to have more bass in Reference Stereo. I looked it up to be sure: In Reference Stereo Mode: • The output is always TWO CHANNEL STEREO. • There is NO bass management, and NOTHING is sent to the subwoofer. • You CANNOT use the Loudness Control, or the Tone Presets, or the Tone Trims. • You CANNOT use Dirac Live or the manual Parametric EQ Presets. • Level Trims, which operate in the analog domain, are still available. • Speaker Distance adjustments are active for digital inputs but not for analog inputs. • Stereo analog input signals are passed straight to the Volume Control and the outputs. • Stereo digital input signals are converted to analog then sent to the Volume Control. • Surround sound digital signals are decoded, mixed down to stereo (the Center Channel and LFE signals, if present, are mixed into the stereo output), and converted to analog.

I concur with Marc. My Fronts play the same as with every other firmware, bass is level with the ranges above 100Hz. No elevation above higher frequencies.
