If there is an Emotiva technician on the forum who can help me out, I am desperate and would prefer not to have to send the device to the United States

Great Article, Thanks! But, it is still confusing (at least to me) From the Article... Dolby Audio Currently, Apple TV supports either Dolby MAT 2.0 (eight or 7.1 channels of lossless audio including Dolby Atmos objects) or Dolby Digital (six or 5.1 channels of lossy audio) formats. If an audio stream originates in another format, it must be transcoded via software to one of these two formats. Additionally, each application developer must separately license desired audio codecs, passing that cost on to consumers.
This would make you believe that the data stream from the Box is either Dolby MAT or Dolby Digital. Why do we see PCM 5.1 on the Processor (RMC-1L in my case) Again, as I said previously, Dolby MAT works fine and the sound is what I expect... It's the PCM 5.1 decoded via "Surround" that is problematic. Is this an issue of the data being sent, or something in the decoding. I ask, because the PCM 5.1 via the Soundbar (Sonos ARC) sounds perfectly fine. Using DTS:Neural:X as the Decoder "fixes" the problem (at least for me), but I'm interested in what the "Problem" really is.Again, Thanks for the Link!!! It's a bit simpler than that... The Apple TV only outputs audio in one of two ways, lossless LPCM or lossy Dolby Digital 5.1. The user makes this choice in the audio setup menu. When the user sets the audio to " best available" (which is also the default), the Apple TV will output lossless LPCM. If it reads via EDID that your system supports Atmos, that option will also be enabled by default. The Apple TV receives whatever the content provider is streaming (which in almost all cases is DD+), decodes it internally and outputs lossless LPCM (or re-encoded lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 if the user so chooses). Keep in mind that "lossless" in this sense means "l ossless to the original content" (or stream). If the original stream is DD+ with Atmos, the core audio is decoded to PCM. The PCM is then repackaged into a Dolby MAT container (along with the Atmos metadata) and passed along to the rendering device (your AVR or AVP). So, in short, if your Apple TV is receiving an Atmos stream, your RMC-1L will show "TrueHD" (which is technically incorrect). If the stream coming into the Apple TV is not Atmos, then your RMC-1L will show "PCM 7.1", "PCM-5.1" or "PCM 2.0". And yes, the Apple TV contains a fully licensed Dolby decoder as well as a DD and MAT encoder. Hope this helps... EDIT: To answer the last statement I've highlighted above, it's really anyones guess why the problem presents itself in the first place. My personal "best" guess would be the well known "center channel bleed bug" which is present in the current DSU software. Dolby has reportedly fixed this issue and it will be included in the new DSU software that will be available Q4 of this year. All it should take is for Emotiva to deploy it. Fingers crossed that they do so quickly...

Any word on when the next firmware release will be? I keep hoping for relief of the snaps and pops. I called support because of the "snap, crackle & pops" when using Zone 2. Thought it was the patio speakers or FM Tuner "crackle", but it's definitely a Zone 2 issue. When you start to notice the crackle, switching to another input sometimes clears it, but the noises will soon return. Support suggested either sending it in, or wait for another update to maybe address the issue.

If there is an Emotiva technician on the forum who can help me out, I am desperate and would prefer not to have to send the device to the United States To eliminate more components and connections, have you tried headphones to see if the problem is in the processor, or further on in the chain? If you need to contact Emotiva directly this is not a reliable place for that, the phone or eMail (in that order) are better methods.

Emotiva is no different in that most modern AVRs are computers, although they may be different in using an ARM Linux-based platform. I have often wondered if the CPU is just not fast or powerful enough on this platform. But I will add that tech support for the JBL SDP-75 recommended to reboot their AVR daily for best reliability. Dear Consumer,
Our software programmers are terrible at their jobs. Instead of us fixing the root cause, we ask that you apply a workaround of rebooting the system daily. Thanks for the cash, chump.

Hello everyone I have a big problem with my RMC-1L: when I put it into use today, there is no sound coming out of my speakers; he has become dumb! I checked my CD player and amp: they both work normally. I tried several HDMI inputs: still no sound! it does receive input signals (noted on the display) everything works normally except the sound output! would anyone among you have an idea to help me out please . Tank you. FYI, I live in France. Do the test tones work?

I'm not confused anymore...at least with this :-) I do agree that this feels like a center channel bleed issue. Hopefully the fix is out soon and Emotiva can get it implemented quickly.

no, the test tones do not work, nor the headphone output So if the processor has no sources connected, and no tv, no inputs or outputs, when the Tuner is selected there is no audio to the headphones? The important distinction here is that there is nothing connected to the processor other than the power cord and the radio antenna. If that's the case, call Emotiva.

So, is there a possibility of Emotiva adding full rendering of MQA to the gen 3 processors?
I have seen other (2ch) integrated with the same DAC (AKM4490) that has full rendering of MQA. Specificly Hegel H390/590 series.
Is it even possible or does MQA need other hardware for the full third stage rendering?

Speaking of the AKM 4490 DAC within the G3 pre-pros, how many of you use this built in DAC for digital music listening? Or do you have and prefer another outboard DAC and if so which ones? This might have been beaten to death already but being a new adopter thought it would be an interesting discussion. Thanks.
PS: Since acquiring the RMC-1L I have been listening using its DAC via AES/EBU, USB from M1 Mac Mini, and occasionally Coax, a lot lately and have been impressed way more than I would have thought. Have not used a Delta Sigma or is that Sigma Delta DAC in a long time but so far I'm impressed. Look forward to what others have to say.

I love the DAC in my XMC-2 for 2 channel music! Music is the primary purpose of my system, HT comes in second.

THD and SNR of all the high quality DACs are beyond my ability distinguish between under normal listening conditions.
