Hello all
just a little question, I don’t find the answer on the user manual :
On XMC-2 and for music, I connect my sub SVS as « center » and declare it as LFE. Front speakers are declared Large (and give the better sound in bass frequencies) Surround and Center are declared Small, crossover at 80 hz.
Because of no « Mono » sub, are the frequencies under 80 hz (bass-management) sent to the front speakers or they are « lost » ?
thanks a lot.

The BM (Bass Management) is sent to your Large Fronts in your setup.

While I wouldn’t disagree that having a benchmark product that performs at the top of its game is worth far more in marketing value than a silly April Fool’s spot, please keep in mind that the person responsible for this is not the same person, or any part of the team, who should be hashing away at processor code. His job is marketing and maintaining a social media presence for the brand. In as much, I think he does a great job. Having said that, I rather enjoy these once a year April Fool’s spoofs. If for nothing else, they offer me a 30 second chuckle over something that’s not intended to be taken seriously. Something that I suppose we all could use a bit more of... He is also the Emotiva employee that did the Dirac video. I also like a little humor and enjoy some of the A/V April fools jokes, but perhaps a better use of his time would be updating that video to reflect the changes made by Dirac when using a G3 processor.

Pretty much what it says… I updated finally to the latest Emo firmware, and my LG is up to date as well.
I have unplugged both and tried, and can’t tell you how many times I switched between inputs, but nothing has worked. Just silence.
I have had to resort to the optical out from the LG.
I had been running from a Roku Ultra 4k, but my Harmony setup with the darn hub died…. And wouldn’t ya know - that old Roku remote has disappeared - never used it so who knows where it wound up! So with no way to. Switch channels, my LG gives me access to basically the same thing, so… I figured I would go thru the TV via ARC.
I am once again frustrated by the twitchieness of ‘modern’ electronics. Sadly I don’t know which is the problem!
I realize ARC is pretty much a dirty word, but hey - is it too much to expect it to work!??
Thanks to anyone who can help!

I don't use ARC, but periodically enable it when diagnosing issues for others so after months of not using it, ARC might not function right off the bat, so I do what's listed below for immediate functionality. This procedure "re-introduces" the processor to the tv and the tv will then "recognize" the processor and show an alert on-screen as such. It's the tv that's most important for ARC to work. Please try this, which works 100% of the time for me with my Sony tv. Unplug all HDMI cables from tv and processor. Unplug power cables for tv and processor. Wait five minutes. Power up tv only. After tv is fully operating, then connect HDMI cable to processor, connect processor power cable, power up processor.

Please help me settle a dispute with a brother. When setting up a 5.1 system. Should the rear speakers be plugged in as "Surrounds" or "Rears", Right and Left. I think the RMC1L has the "Rears" marked as "Back" or RBK & LBK? We use, "All Stereo", DTS, Dolby Digital and occasionally Surround sources.
Thank you

Thank you In a 5.1 setup, they are "surrounds" no matter whether they are beside the main seating location or behind. "Backs" (aka "Rears") only apply to a 7.1 setup. In a 7.1 setup, you would have "surround" and "back/rear" channels.

Rears won't even show up until Surrounds are enabled. Try it. Lots of settings affect other settings being available or not. 5.1 will have Left, Center, Right, Surrounds, Subwoofer. 7.1 will have Left, Center, Right, Surrounds, Rears, Subwoofer. edit: Doc beat me again by a few seconds!

Thank you In a 5.1 system, set your side/back speakers as 'Surrounds'. DTS and Dolby will decode properly. Set your angle for taste, and your room, but standard is 120 degrees. I don't know if the RMC-1L will set surrounds as backs in a 5.1 setup. It shouldn't.

But anything your ”large” speakers can’t produce is lost. Probably about <35hz are ”lost” or played at lower volume. That’s why it’s almost always better to use BM even for ”large” fronts. Maybe use 40hz cross? This is almost like using them as large. But you will not loose any low end. Depending on how low your sub plays of course.

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t they called.. ”Surround Side” and ”Surround Back”? Sorry for the rant.. Not specifically meant for your post.

Actually the important thing now is whether you place the 5.1 system’s “surrounds” correctly - seen many setups where they put the surrounds at the back.

For anyone interested, or for those who don’t already know, here are the official Dolby recommendations for speaker placements… For a 5.1 layout, follow this… For a 7.1 layout, follow this…

In my room my 7.1 setup is really 6.1 since the back wall doesn't allow for 2 speakers positioned correctly, but one speaker works well. Accommodations are sometimes necessary.

Seems things have got very quite on Firmware updates and the HDMI eARC upgrade card. I predominantly use an ATV HD 4K as my primary source device, and the continued 1-2 second HDMI re-sync/screen blanking is very "optimized" (painful) as a result of menus selection is the various apps.
With the eARC card I can move the ATV back to the TV (LG) and just use the XMC-2 for audio processing via eARC not HDMI video switching - for which it seems lousy. I don't care as yet for 8k as there is generally almost zero (streamed) content.
As customers we have all made significant investments, and am amazed at the time it's taking to get these updates out.

They are labeled in the standard way. <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> It’s even worse when they mix the names. But if you look back of a, say Marantz, you will see it says ”Surround back” why Emotiva call it ”Lbk” / ”Rbk” and then ”Rears” in the settings is mind boggling. The ”Surround side” are simply called ”Surround” on Marantz. Which to me is fine. They have the same names in the settings and will never be upgradable. So there no chance of users mixing them up. I can understand that sometimes due to space the full name can’t always be used on the unit. But the software/settings should never compromise. I think they have chosen ”Rears” because each speaker that have a pair they HAD TO name them in plural. ”Surround backs” doesn’t sound so good. IMO each speaker type should say ” Front” not ”Fronts” and so on.. This afterall a setting not a text. But again, they don’t follow suit.. Rears, Fronts, Surrounds and Width are named in plural. The height speakers are not. Should be changed to Front, Surround back, Surround side and Front wide. This will be more problematic when they add more speaker positions with the extension cards. They need to have all these correct. Not a big issue really.. But also not a hard thing to fix either.

Nowadays when all surround speakers should be direct radiated the small rooms we have make more than 2 seats an impossibility. The room needs to be in excess of 20ft wide and atleast 25ft in length to have the speakers enough distance from multiple seats to have them all get the full bubble. Then with these distances you would need some real powerful amps and bigger speakers. I have 3 seats myself. The outer two don’t have anywhere near as good sound as MLP. They are too close to my Surround sides. My room is only shy of 12ft wide. But about 23ft in length. Would have loved if my room was 15-16ft wide and about 20ft in length.. But unless you build your house from scratch you will almost certainly always have to compromise.
