Brent here with Emotiva support. First, I will say that the next firmware is imminent, moreso than before, and I hope worth the wait. Beta code has had some major improvements in my setups at work and at home, and I hope the final release behaves the same. I know it has been a long time coming with some delays, and some of you have probably heard directly from me that "it's just a few weeks away" over the past few months. But we are close, and as someone who handles a lot of customer support for configuration issues, I am really looking forward to it. This is great news! In fact, it brought me back to my RMC-1. I had actually removed mine from my system and was trying out the Anthem AVM90. That is an excellent piece of equipment and I really liked the one I have, but have now decided to return it because of the imminent update being released for the XMC/RMCs. The AVM90 sounds excellent and works smoothly, but I am not sure it is $4,000/$5,000 better. I sincerely hope that this coming update brings significant improvements to the XMC/RMC processors. I guess only time will tell.

That’s an important point, not so much that you should always use sweeps (as many don’t want to or aren’t equipped for it), but rather how to make your Pink Noise measurements as accurate as possible. … These are all really EXCELLENT points! Please add them to the first posts of this thread and the Dirac thread. Thanks, I’ve added them to the Dirac FAQ

All that to say, I think I recently stumbled upon a fix or partial solution for anyone who is experiencing ticks/pops/cracks with some HDMI sources, including Apple TV and NVidia Shield, likely others as well. I just came upon this yesterday, so I have only been able to test in a limited fashion, but it is a simple change in the settings of the processor, and it has made a significant difference. Here is the fix that I encourage any users to try who are having this issue, and this likely would only apply to firmware 2.4 or 2.5 machines but has not been tested on previous versions. Tick/pop/crack possible fix:For any of the HDMI inputs used in the XMC-2/RMC-1/L, navigate to Setup > Inputs > HDMI [#] > Lip Sync Delay, and set this to 100 mSec. Set the same delay of 100 mSec for any HDMI inputs with sources that are presenting this issue, and leave any others set to 0 mSec. You may experiment with values less than 100, as this is a fairly arbitrary number, but I found that values under approx. 50 may not work as well as a higher value to eliminate unwanted noise/ticks/pops. If you set different delay values for different HDMI inputs, this fix will not help. For example, if you set one delay to 100 mSec and another input's delay to 99 mSec, you will get poor behavior when you toggle back and forth between these inputs. Any unused or unaffected HDMI inputs may be left at the default of 0 mSec and will not cause any issue if set to 0. Altering the lip-sync value should not affect the audio-video sync, but it may help alleviate some of these noises. We are still working to track down why the lip-sync is not being applied as a lip-sync and why this setting might affect the pops/ticks. But this is the fix that we have found works in many cases where this noise is present on HDMI sources. I encourage any to try this with HDMI sources that present ticks/pops/cracks. Feel free to reply here, but I may miss some feedback on this thread. I would truly appreciate if anyone has had this issue and is able to improve it by setting some lip-sync delays, please send me a Direct Message on the forum boards. Any feedback will help us to better resolve this issue permanently. Thanks. Brent, that is encouraging news indeed. Does this also mean that the updated HDMI board is on it's way too? You know. The one you can't really talk about? Any way of getting a list of bug fixes and additional features we can expect with v3.0? If you want we could get the Ouija board going on a Zoom call and see if we can figure it out that way..... I really can't say too much about HDMI boards, but HDMI 2.1 is not imminent with this release, I will just say that. Development has continued on HDMI 2.1 as we have been working on the next firmware, and they go hand in hand in some ways, even if HDMI 2.1 is not ready. As far as fixes with the next code, CEC and ARC are just night and day better in most cases. As one who spends hours troubleshooting this and doing the dance to get it working, I know how it can be with some TVs. I would say that is the biggest improvement overall in the new code from an overall daily use perspective. I will be excited to get feedback in the field in full-time use, but so far I am very happy with it. There are some other, less obvious changes to the code in the background that have made it overall more stable, especially regarding HDMI and the DSP staying on the same page, etc. At least that is the intent and has been my experience with beta code versions. Some of these changes are what have delayed this code, trying to address the overall stability of the processors, especially regarding HDMI, and I think it will be worth the wait. Other minor fixes are likely incorporated, but a more comprehensive list will be available with the official release. I have probably already said too much, but that is my take on the next code.

That sounds very promising. Love to test your beta. As a software developer for the motion picture industry, I have a little experience in this area. Also very happy to test out your new HDMI 2.1 board (wink, wink)……

Sounds like some great updates and fixes. Of course CEC/HDMI issues are potentially resolved after I stop having issues I moved from a TCL TV to a JVC projector recently and also got a new fiber HDMI cable, so far I have not had the HDMI lock on issues I did with the TV but I can't use CEC with the projector unfortunately so that probably has something to do with it since I have to turn it on independently of my XMC-2. Still, looking forward to the potential stability improvements and day to day quality of life stuff. My biggest wish is that DLBC would make it onto the roadmap, ideally make it into production before the end of 2022.

I have probably already said too much, but that is my take on the next code. If you get in trouble, explain that you have really given a lot of us hope... seriously. I was asked about Emotiva by my audio shop two days ago when I picked up my new speakers and I honestly had to tell him... it's like an old Italian supercar... when it works, it's glorious, but you have to be prepared to do a dance to make it work sometimes. I still love my Emotiva processor and amps, especially with my new Polk R700's (yes, Polk, really) and it will be nice to be able to recommend Emotiva again without caveats. Your post was needed.. you have not made any promises, but you have let us know WHY things are taking a while. The customer just wants to be informed... we will wait for quality... we won't like waiting, but we will wait. We just need some kind of information on progress, and you have given us that. If I could buy you a beer, I would.

Mostly true.... you need eARC to get true hi-res multi-channel or Atmos.
(Technically you CAN get Atmos via DD+ with ARC... which would give you all the Atmos channels with high-quality compressed audio... but we've never seen a TV that offers that option.)
Keith, this is what I use, with LG OLED TV, AppleTV plus app on TV and Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, connected HDMI ARC. Atmos contents succsfully send to my RMC-1L and it shows imcoming stream is DD+ and has Atmos metadata on it. RMC-1L nicely play DD+ Atmos contents from TV via ARC. Only thing is that Netflix does not. It is really pain in the a**, under 1K USD basic receivers from Denon, Marantz, Onkyo and Yamaha, even under 100USD soundbar can decode DD+ Atmos from TV Netflix app but not Emotiva. I asked many times here and Emotiva customer support center but no answer at all. I don't know why you said "we've never seen a TV that offers that option". This picture shows my RMC-1L while playing Atmos contents from Amazon Prime Video app on my LG TV through ARC connection. <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> Hi, seems to be good explanation ARC vs. eARC functionality: Best, Alex

Thanks. It looks like someone had thrown a spreadsheet together. I was hoping it came from a more legit source.
