Are pops and cracks present in all XMC-2 or are some units free from it? Would muting xmc-2 before switching source prevent pops etc. or not really. Do pops and cracks only happen when switching sources or also in other scenarios? Sorry about all the questions and thank you for being so supportive with answering them. I have place the offer on 2nd hand unit and still have some time to cancel it so I am trying to understand few things ASAP. Thanks I don't have any pops or crackles (or snaps!), never had any such issue with ATV either.

I’ve had pops, ticks and crackles with all of my source devices. Usually relatively quiet, but I have had several occasions where they were so loud they caused my heart to skip a beat - not cool.
I use Windows PC and Nvidia Shield sources most often, but occasionally an AppleTV and Vero4K (for 3D content). These noises have happened on all of them with the louder ones being on the PC source if I remember correctly.

I do have to say I used to get snaps, crackles and pops but usually only around breakfast time. Maybe occasionally at snack time. Switching to oatmeal fixed the problem.

It’s funny until every one of your guests asks what processor you have so that they can avoid buying it because of the various issues.

Exactly... Amplifiers may have somewhat different gains although they tend to be somewhat similar... But speakers vary over a range of around 20 dB (from 82 dB on the low side to 102 dB for some horns)... And room acoustics also make a significant difference in that as well... One other thing worth noting is that, in the old days of vintage analog gear, preamps often would have higher noise and distortion near the top of their operating range (gain). This was very obvious with tube gear and still noticeable with a lot of analog solid state gear. Therefore, back then, it was anecdotal that "you didn't want to operate a preamp with its Volume knob near the top of its range". This is simply no longer true for most modern gear, including our processors, where you won't experience significant noise or distortion until actual clipping. So, as long as nothing is clipping, the processor won't sound any harsher or noticeably noisier at higher Volume settings. How loud would you listen to your emotiva guys? I usually hover around -25 to -15db. I read that some complain about harsh top end close to ref (0db). What is your experience? There are so many variables with speaker sensitivity, amp gain/sensitivity, Dirac correction, input source levels, that your 0 dB will be noticeably different than mine or someone else’s. Which is to say, if there was a system that got harsh at 0 dB, it would be because of a particular set of variables, that most of us can’t duplicate. It’s all just gain until it reaches distortion, but where that occurs is different for each of us. Edit: I’m also -25 to -15 for movies.

But it's also kind of nice when they ask "because it sounds so much better than what they have at home"... It’s funny until every one of your guests asks what processor you have so that they can avoid buying it because of the various issues.

I will often times lose video when I select Netflix or YouTube from my Dish Menu. Sometimes I can toggle the inputs to restore and sometimes I have to reboot the Dish receiver or the XMC2.

Mainly between -25 and -15db. Really depends on the source/content eg Oppo UDB203 @-15db Youtube video on NVIDIA @-25db Disney on NVIDIA @-15 to -10db Apple Music on Apple TV @-15db Amazon/Netflix/Others on NVIDIA/ATV @-15db Windows/OSX +RX580@-15db Games on PS5 @-15db I find Disney is the worst for sound consistency.

Thanks I have an RMC1 and my experience with pops/cracks as follows: - on startup I may get a faint pop/crack from one of the speakers (not always). This doesn't worry me as its so faint it won't cause damage - on any device when the RMC1 changes audio format say from stereo to multi channel and back I get a louder crack or pop. These ones do worry me - I now mute the RMC1 as soon as it starts and when my contact starts playing and I see the RMC1 onscreen display of audio format I take mute off - when my content finishes playing I mute the volume and only take mute off when I start new content playback. - no issue once content is playing and audio format is synched in - I also lower the volume before turning off the unit so that if I forget the mute next I turn the unit on the pop/crack isn't as loud PS @ emotiva the audio delay trick didn't work for me re clicks/pops.

… The only issue I have is that I have to press and hold the power button for some 20-30 seconds when turning the unit on. Once it boots up then it goes into standby and I have to activate the power button again. … This sounds unusual, if you have to hold the power button to ‘start’, that would imply the unit is ‘locked up’ and you’re using the SSS (six second shutdown), to get it turned off. I would start by putting your processor in LPS (low power standby), this will cause it to shutdown and restart with each use. Yes, it will now take about 70-80 seconds to startup your system, but this is a test. Once in LPS see if (other than speed), your system starts up normally — one power button tap to turn it on, one to turn it off — no long holds required. Then when things seem normal, switch back to VOS (video on standby) and see if things work normally.

The XLR inputs on the XPA Gen3 amps are inverted relative to the standard. The XLR outputs on ALL of our processors follow the standard. Another question - I remember reading that Emo gear has incorrect XLR pin-outs. Was it only true for amps or also for XMC-2? Thanks

Verified latest firmware version 2.5. Completed and passed 100% Audio Precision factory specifications." What does this mean? What is an eda-2 board? Thank you

Thank you EDA is one of the main DSP (digital signal processing) boards in the processor, one of the many computers working together in the units.

As another noted, this is odd behavior and not something I have come across, at least not how it is being described. I encourage you to reach out to customerservice@emotiva.com for support on this issue if you have not already. We may be able to help determine a cause or solution. Thanks.

I did change the settings to lowest power and was able to toggle on and have with power button press no holding. I had bee n keeping the processor on all the time and powered down the dish. I think this works fine now. Much appreciated by you and Brent.

Emotiva Staff, status on when we can expect a firmware update for the RMC-1L? Thank you! I woke up this morning, wandered downstairs, turned on my RMC-1L, turned on the coffee machine while it was rebooting, put on my Max Cooper Emmenence BluRay and blissed out for half an hour. It was so relaxing. It's a, pity it was only a dream. Instead, in reality, I woke up, wandered downstairs, turned on my RMC-1L, turned on the coffee machine, then unloaded the dishwasher, vacuumed the kitchen floor and did the New York Times crossword after restarting my RMC-1L several times to get the BluRay player to sort of work until I eventually gave up at the third cup of coffee and went to work. Maybe the v3.0 firmware is part of that dream.....?
