Just to be clear here.... The noise is coming from the speakers... When you connect all of the channels on the XMC-2 to the same amp... Using the same adapters and balanced to unbalanced interconnects... The hum comes from whichever speakers are connected to the Front Left and Front Right outputs on the XMC-2... And this is the case with whatever source you're using... (If this is really the situation it would be quite surprising - for there to be hum on the unbalanced outputs of only certain channels like that.) (If the hum was always coming from the same speakers it is possible, although really unusual, for speaker wires, or even speakers themselves, to "pick up outside hum".) However the usual source of hum is either a ground differential between the processor and amp, ground noise from outside the system, or noise picked up by unbalanced interconnects. It's also worth mentioning that ALL systems have a noise floor. This means that, if you listen carefully enough, in a quiet room, there will be some small amount of hum, hiss, or both. Whether you notice it or not is just a matter of how efficient your speakers are, how quiet your room is, and how sensitive your hearing is. (To be quite honest, a faint hum, which can be heard six inches from the speaker, but not two feet from it, is not all that unusual, especially with sensitive speakers.) (With that small amount of noise I would even suggests seeing if it changes or goes away if you turn various lights and appliances off and on.) At least your getting somewhere with your diagnosis! Couple things. First, if there are no wires, cords, cables, attached to the XMC-2 except the power cable, and it is emanating a hum that can only be heard very close to the box, that might be normal, at least it is for some. I can only hear a faint "hum" if I place my ear directly on the XMC-2. Secondly, if the only speakers that emanate a hum while the system is on are the Left Front, and Left Rear HT channels, then connect those speaker connections to different channels on the amplifier which are known to not have hum, see if the hum follows the speaker wires. If so, then the speaker wires are collecting that hum from somewhere along their paths, and/or, the interconnects are collecting hum from somewhere. Move power cords away from signal wires and speaker wires. Where I live, all electrical is in metal conduit and metal boxes so the only electrical supply wires I ever worry about speaker runs being near are the low voltage wires in walls and floors. I will do more testing this weekend including if the transformer isolation boxes fix anything. The hum seems to always be coming from the LF and LR height channels of the XMC-2, no matter which of the 5 amp channels I plug them into. There could be hum on the lower channels but just not making it to the speakers since they are XLR cables to Monoprice amp If I use my old Crown amps for the heights non of the channels hum when using pure XLR cable. The issue is only presenting itself when XLR to RCA transition is made.

The issue is only presenting itself when XLR to RCA transition is made. Yes the noise is coming from the speakers but as I said I do notice a very similar noise coming from the XMC-2 itself (I have had the thing for 18 months so its not like its noticeable, have to put my ear next to it to hear it). I am going to two different amps. L, C, R, and all four surrounds go to Monoprice Monolith via XLR - no issues. Four overhead had gone to (2) different Crown XLS 1500 via XLR - no issues. Now that the four overhead go to A-500 I have the hum on two of the channels. I don't even have to be on a source just having the XMC-2 and A-500 powered on produces the noise. This is not small hum, this is I'm afraid I am damaging my speakers noise that is loud from 20'. Is there any possibility there is an issue with the XMC-2? I don't want to mess around with any sort of warranty if it can be helped, I would rather eliminate every other possibility before placing blame on the XMC-2. My power conditioner recommends tying all equipment plugged into it to the ground post it provides, should I try tying both amps plus XMC-2 to that? Just grab a chassis screw from Emotiva's (Monoprice has ground lug)?

My bet on the Dirac technology is it will never be released, or only to very limited partners or products ... and if so, 2-3 years from now. Friends send me press releases from Dirac all the time and virtually nothing ever happens in any broadly available product. So my bet is 3.X ... by a nose.

We are all complaining about firmware and meanwhile I get an unexpected phone call from Keith trying to work out my issue. Firmware or no firmware they have a customer for life now in me, what other company would reach out to a customer like that to try and help..... Thanks Keith and I will be in touch.

Customers have different priorities. For some can be support like Keith provides, others rather no support but the cheapest price posible. In my case I prefer reliability that sometimes it can be just luck. For example all my computers for my house and business are Lenovo. Never had a single problem with the computers and also never contacted Lenovo support so I don’t have a clue if they are good or bad. On the other hand a Sony Tv lasted 1.1 years. Never bought another Sony product ever again.

Never bought another Sony product ever again. I wholeheartedly agree! Reliability can sometimes just be luck. My first Lenovo laptop had a trackpad that stopped working before it was two years old. The second Lenovo laptop also developed a bad trackpad, plus the screen hinge failed such that the computer would still work, but I had to lay the screen down just right so it would allow the computer to function while using a desktop monitor, so, it was no longer able to work on-the-go. But every other laptop still works, even the first one I ever bought in 1992. So it was only the Lenovo duo that failed, each before they were two years old. I still use a 2015 MacBook Pro as a secondary to a 2021 model which is the primary one used for many hours each day. Lenovo soured me for Windows laptops, so I tried Mac. I'm not a total convert as there are some apps I miss that are only Windows compatible.

... so I tried Mac. I'm not a total convert as there are some apps I miss that are only Windows compatible. Just one Windows' app left for me (Visio), but it's important enough to pay for and run Parallels Desktop so I can have a Windows 11 VM. I very much like being able to run macOS most of the time, but Windows when I need it. It's also so nice to have them both on the same machine, one set of monitors, disks, keyboard/mouse, DAC/Speakers, cut and paste between OS' ... bliss! 🤤 I agree too about 'luck', we've all used many of the same brands and models of various gear, for some they're the 'greatest ever', yet others will 'never use them again', sometimes hard to fathom.

Has anyone found a good WIRED IR remote sensor that works well with the RMC-1L with at least 10’ of wire?

Has anyone found a good WIRED IR remote sensor that works well with the RMC-1L with at least 10’ of wire? Yes. This . . . BAFX Products (Infrared) IR Remote Control Extender or IR Repeater Kit Plus this . . . Sewell Direct SW-29727-25 25-Feet Ir (Infrared) Extension Cable Equals about $40. The extender cable was $10, so getting a shorter cable is less by about $3. These prices are from a couple weeks ago. My BAFX repeater was getting a bit ragged from having been yanked a few times when I was having some work done in the house over the last five years and a few of the ports got ripped out, so I bought a new repeater and a longer extender cable since the rack is now much farther away. I love how sensitive the IR Receiver is!

I was hoping to come right out of the RMC-1L remote sensor plug in the back of the unit with a wired IR extender if that’s possible. I have a wireless one going into the remote IR port with poor results (works sometimes)

I have a wireless one going into the remote IR port with poor results (works sometimes) I use the same unit as ttocs (without the sensor extension cable) plugged directly into the 'IR in' on the G3P rear panel. I can confirm the BAFX IR unit works very well. The cable used to plug into the G3P rear panel connection should be a mono 1/8'' cable, just like the trigger cable used to connect to your amplifier. ttocs shows the correct cable for the sensor extension, but mono for the IR in on the G3P. Like this: this

Like this: thisYes, this is an important thing to note! It's only the IR Receiver that uses the stereo extension cable. All components use MONO cables. My setup is at the back of the room, so I need close to 30 feet to get to the top of the tv panel where the receiver is mounted. The BAFX distribution box and all IR cables for the various components is in the rack at the back of the room. The IR Receiver needs power to operate and gets that from the BAFX distribution box via the extra wire of the stereo cable which the XMC-2 will not be able to provide.

Haven't been by in a second, but we don't have a timeline or other news to offer. But I remain optimistic about the firmware, and we are progressing. If it makes anyone feel better, I do feel your collective pain each and every day. I have nightmares where I am trapped in a world that is made up of some grey boxes and some lighter gray boxes, trying to move a blue box around without any sense of purpose, endlessly moving through the OSD menus. Nightmares about HDMI EDID and CEC conflicts. I just hope all that ends when the firmware drops, but in the meantime, think of me. Once this drops I will be doing my first Dirac calibration.

You really could go ahead now. There is nothing in this firmware release that's expected to affect Dirac filters. Yeah I know ... famous last words. But seriously, you can do the Dirac calibration now and when 3.x drops you could just download the filters again to be sure. Meanwhile, the benefits of Dirac far outweigh any potential risk.

If you don't like the result, start Dirac and load that saved project, tweak some things, save it under a new project name, load the new filter. Repeat as many times as you like, but you only need to run the measurement process once, unless you want to try something different in the measuring process like different spacing to the microphone positions.
