It’s not just AppleTV causing the ghosting digital sounds and pops/cracks. I get it using my PC (EVGA 3090) and occasionally my Shield TV. I fired up my theater twice this weekend and it had loud snaps when I turned it on and a lower volume crackle when I shut it down both times. If 3.0 doesn’t fix that I might be out of here to be honest. I don't hear these power up and power down noises because I turn the amps ON last, and turn the amps OFF first. It's been standard protocol since I started using separate components. It's never a good idea to power up or down both preamp and amp at the same time, or to turn on amps before the preamp, or to turn off the preamp before the amps. Or, to power up or down any component when it's output is connected through powered up preamps and amplifiers with the volume turned up. Most components have muting circuitry, but some don't, and things can happen. New FW will do nothing for this.

I don't know anything, but that's now a year while nothing really happened regarding these Bugs. And except, that I know now that it cannot be upgraded anymore I'm in the same mood.

RMC-1 first, and depending the source, it will trigger the DR3 or both Amps, with a little delay.

Let's hope not. Let's be as positive as we have been patient. Yay!

Agreed its not just ATV, I have pops and cracks from NVIDIA Shield etc. As per my prev posts its def the RMC-1 as it switches from one audio format to another and sometimes when it fires up.

The system is generally pretty good with RMC-1 triggering my 3 Emo Amps. The RMC-1 triggers the amps part way through its boot cycle (I dont use standby, ie complete off all the time as its a dedicated room)........if I want to pick on something then on occasion you will get a crack/pop on boot, therefore you could argue that turning the amps on only once the RMC is fully booted would avoid it, but its few and far between. Just need the pops/cracks fixed when traversing audio formats in normal use.

If I’m expected to manually walk into my A/V closet to turn my amps off and on to aboif turn-on/off cracks and pops then something at Emotiva has gone severely wrong. This is 2022. This was basic stuff on this level of gear 20 years ago.

This was basic stuff on this level of gear 20 years ago. I control 20 channels of amplification with one remote power switch. I don't have to manually walk to an A/V closet to do it. However, I admit that the remote switch is 2' away from the RMC-1L, in the same rack. Controlling the amps in the sequence I stated offers a degree of safety, security, and flexibility, that satisfies me, even in the year 2022. Perhaps a switch in your trigger circuit could accomplish the same thing and make those loong manual walks to the closet unnecessary. You could put the switch right next to your RMC and avoid a 2' reach.

Would be nice if my Emotiva equipment worked as designed - it doesn’t crack and pop every time and I haven’t been able to establish a pattern as to what causes it. I’m stumped!

My control system is more primitive than yours – more like manual walking with my fingers. I could use the RMC triggers with 2 components. I just don’t. I have work experience building and using GPI’s. I like to keep things simple at home. I like the tactile interacting experiences with this hobby. Like playing discs and LP’s. I suppose it’s a bit old fashioned. Your stated problem is pops and cracks with auxiliary equipment power on and off. I don’t see how a FW upgrade will mitigate your problem unless it provides adjustable intelligent delays and muting when the triggering is functioning. Does it? My adjustable intelligent triggering circuit is me - least wise it is intelligent most days. Is your rack system ground planed? Is your rack equipment powered by different phases? Do you have very dry air in your house – static build up? I get more ticks and pops in the winter when the air is dryer. These are my first thoughts. You have complex power distribution, control, and wiring. I would like the quirks in my RMC-1L fixed too. Can EMO speak to this particular issue? When IS that FW fix coming? What will it fix?

It should be painfully obvious to all who are waiting for the next firmware - Emo has not hired the right person to do their coding. If they were genuinely able to do effective recursive/iterative coding/testing/release we would see more frequent firmware releases addressing a single "major" issue with some minor house cleaning. When will we see the next firmware? It doesn't matter. By now each of us has had to figure out which workaround or headache works most of the time. I waited up till midnight the day these units first went on sale to get mine. The first firmware was "not ready for prime-time". I've suffered through having to daily power cycle. Cringe at random crazy loud static. Loss of audio. And volume weirdness (+/- 10dB) after previous firmware updates. Thankfully, most but not all of the WTF problems have been sorted. When it works it is really really good. I just hope that if/when an HDMI 2.1 board comes along that we don't start the @#$% show all over again. It may have been noted by some that my rather flippant musings on the non-availability of the v3.0 firmware for the RMC-1L. I'd like to state that I am not unsympathetic to Emotiva and the good people who work there. And like you I think I've been extraordinarily patient, finding work-arounds for all the weird little foibles that beset the use of this promising box. But still this situation is accelerating into farce. My sympathy for this situation stems from my own work. I invented an application which has become the most used on-set software tool in the motion picture industry. Called Artemis Director's Viewfinder I won an Emmy in 2018 for its decades long use on nearly every film & TV production worldwide. A large chunk of my life is taken up progressively updating the software, fixing bugs and improving the interface along guidelines gleaned from our loyal users. Sound familiar? I agree with you though, it seems that whoever is looking after the firmware development is perhaps under duress or doesn't understand that our patience can only be stretched so far. I'd also like a crack at redesigning the interface of the iOS control app for the RMC-1. It could be so much better. I mean, just having the volume control being easy to find in the dark would be helpful. Maybe I moan too much....?Is that a rhetorical question?

The alternatives in this pre pro space isn’t that attractive either. Otherwise the lot of us would have jumped ship years ago.
I guess I’m lucky in that I don’t hear those pops on startup. My ATI amps have a slow startup process. If the triggers have a delay option then it would probably be not an issue.
But with the new pre pro in the works…sometime in the future…hopefully our patience will be rewarded.

Small but sharp pop from one of the speakers on power-up for me with XMC-2 triggering 3 Amps... might look into some other way of triggering them.

I have three XPA-1L monoblocks and a single 10 channel XPA 3rd gen amp triggered by my XMC-2. I never hear any pops on startup. I use low power standby and there appears to be a small delay during startup... that might be why

Ditto, I’ve had four different amps triggered on/off with the RMC-1, never any noise from the speakers. What amp models are doing this?

I use low power standby and there appears to be a small delay during startup... that might be why I'm in the same boat. I also use low power standby, partially because I have to power up the JVC projector, which takes almost the same amount of time. Using LPS, the only pop I hear is a VERY mild "snap" when the XMC-2 changes audio formats. Noticeable but not annoying at all. The XMC-2 works nearly flawlessly in this startup mode and, in fact, I have more problems with the Sony BR player freezing when playing BD-100 UHD discs. Now that's annoying! For me, the only downside to using LPS is that the startup times for both the XMC and the projector make it seemingly impossible to program the Harmony remote to automate the processes. I probably need to do more research to see if the Harmony can be programmed with enough delay to accommodate the long startup times. But I've been too busy enjoying movies and music!
