Doing Dirac speaker calibration. Why is it most of the time the speaker volume is extremely loud, other times is normal. When it's loud no matter what I do whether reset XMC-2 or restart Dirac app, it still loud? Not sure how to fix it. Any advice would be really appreciated. Dani During calibration? There's a slider in the software to dial up/down the levels prior to running Dirac. Mark During Master-Volume calibration where you setup speaker levels. Sliders doesn't work at all

This actually happened to me yesterday.Β I've done literally hundreds of Dirac calibrations over the past six years, and although I have had lots of weird stuff happen with my XMC-1 and 2 ... this was a first.Β Either the volume calibration buttons did nothing, and no calibration sound came out ... or, after a restart ... IT WAS SCARY SO LOUD I JUMPED!Β Β My SPL meter happened to be nearby and recorded 106 decibels! Okay the cure ... 2-3 cold reboots did not fix it, so I backed up settings, did a Factory Reset, restored settings ...and it was fixed.Β So the standard advice here is if something very strange happens and a reboot doesn't fix it, do a Factory Reset. My opinion and observation after all these years and many hours going in and out of the menus and changing settings and doing Dirac calibrations .... the more you do that, the more "Dark Matter" accumulates in the mysterious depths of the software ....at some point it reaches critical mass and begins ejecting pops and snaps and random volume changes and some channels go dead.Β Β It must then be exorcized with a Factory Reset ... sometimes two. I have done all those, Factory reset, cold reboot. Sometimes it work most of the times it doesn't. yes scary loud and worried each and everytime that it might damage my speakers. You should contact Emotiva support. Could be hardware.

Sliders doesn't work at all So, none of the level control sliders will work, none of them? This seems more likely to be a computer issue. Which Dirac version are you using? PC or Mac computer? Laptop or desktop? Which microphone, and if it's a UMIK, which type of USB port does it have on the microphone itself?

Yes it does work on computer but no affect on the volume on speaker itself. Have used 2 different laptop with multiple Dirac versions.

Not sure if Mic is the source of issue with this kind of issue. but I could be wrong.

First I got no sound at all from the level buttons for any speakers. Then after rebooting the XMC-2 and restarting Dirac, I got the crazy LOUD sound from all speakers and even turning down master gain and pulling the individual sliders nearly to zero if was loud and distorted. The Factory Reset fixed it. But if he has tried the Factory Reset .... could be a hardware failure like I experienced a year ago where I got random very loud white noise on startup (not related to Dirac).

And it's because of the circuit at the USB end of the cable that might be wonky.

Emotiva mic. Not sure if Mic is the source of issue with this kind of issue. but I could be wrong. The USB end of the mic cable can get damaged. Try gently moving the USB end of the cable so as to make the cable bend a bit vs the USB plug and see if that makes the signal "jump" suddenly.

USB end going to the laptop right? Yes. Mine has not been perfect in this regard, but I don't use it anymore so it's been a long time for me. But I've had it be fussy when I used it with my Windows computer years ago, so I had to jiggle it a bit.

You might need to do a Factory Reset on the processor and then power cycle it. (You can save your settings before the reset and restore them afterwards.) So, none of the level control sliders will work, none of them? This seems more likely to be a computer issue. Which Dirac version are you using? PC or Mac computer? Laptop or desktop? yellowbalt please take a look at this video to see if it can provide any insight for you. It shows a setting for Windows computers that will affect Volume Calibration setup.

Odd...call Emotiva... Mark Would they accommodate my call? unit is almost 5 years now I called them about a nearly 20 year old amp, and they helped. They no longer service ones that old, but they connected me to their recommended repair place and were very helpful. So...yes...call. Mark

Sometimes it work most of the times it doesn't. I will try to carefully move the end of USB as per some advice here.

yellowbalt please take a look at this video to see if it can provide any insight for you. It shows a setting for Windows computers that will affect Volume Calibration setup. He was talking about the mic not able to pickup anything due to active noise-cancelation. I can try again this too but the issue on mine is that the moment you click the play on Dirac software on any speaker, it blasted the sound and no matter how you adjust the volume on the amp (my top height amps have volume) or in the Dirac software, it doesn't change the volume

- The problem is that sometimes the volume calibration sound comes out WAY too loud, and pulling the sliders down does not help ...it's still way too loud on all channels
- You have done a Factory Reset and reboot.
So if this is correct, then the problem is the same issue I had on Tuesday. The problem is not in the computer or the microphone. So I would suggest another Factory Reset. If that doesn't work, call Emotiva Support.

And the sliders don't work at all, so they won't move apparently. This is why I think there's a computer issue. During Master-Volume calibration where you setup speaker levels. Sliders doesn't work at all
