Has anyone noticed any crackling coming from one or more speakers from the onboard TV speakers when using audio passthru from HDMI using RMC-1? I seem to have an issue with left speaker crackling, and it is not audible while listening to content thru onboard TV apps. Thinking possibly the RMC isn't handling it well. I cleaned all connections and have new cables from source to Prepro to TV.

Benbvan,
I have the same problem with static on my TV speakers, when using my XMC-2 in “Video Remains On” standby mode from any input, my TV is a 2018 LG C8 OLED. This problem started with firmware 1.9.x and continues with 1.10.
Please try this test and report back:
Backup your user settings and reset your RMC-1 to factory defaults, reboot the RMC-1. At this point you will not hear the static, but once you add in your user settings you will again hear the static. In my experience it makes no difference if you manually add back your user settings or restore them from the back-up. It appears the problem has something to do with one or more of the user settings.
I have reported this very frustrating problem to Emotiva but so far no resolution.

I will email them, hopefully Keith will get it and let him know it's not an isolated incident.

Benbvan,
I think your right about the static being predominately, if not completely in the left channel of the TV’s stereo speakers. Unfortunately with my TV speakers I have no balance control, so no way to turn off just the left speaker and just listen to the right channel. We are not the only ones with this issue, it has been reported by numerous others in various threads.
I have been working with Damon Steele, one of Emotiva’s best support technicians. Damon says they have been able to reproduce the problem on their end, which is an important first step but so far no solutions.

I have had this issue for awhile now with my XMC-2.
Emotiva is aware.
Hopefully a solution will come eventually via firmware update.

Holy cow. Just set my xmc-2 up. Have massive static on digital passthru and zone2 on the left channel. This isn't something you can just wait on, this is a big deal. I don't power up the amps and sub for casual tv watching so I'm in this mode 70% of the time and I'm concerned it will damage my TV speakers.
Also I use zone 2 to power my 2 chan system (dont ask) which is simpler than the entire home theater but I can't because the popping it too bad. Not sure if I can configure another output for full=range stereo left and right.

I had scratchy popping sounds coming from the tv's right woofer that would happen after doing some major settings trials, but I don't think it has happened since 1.9-ish. Doing a Factory Reset and settings restore would solve it. I never discovered what set it off, and since I can't remember when it happened last I can't pin down which firmware might have been used the last time it occurred.
I actually called Sony and they were gonna send a repair tech to fix it. They knew about an issue but on the phone they wouldn't explain.
edit: I just remembered - it was a Sony update that might have fixed it. I had two major updates from Sony in one month.

Anyway I was told that it is a know issue which will be fixed with the next firmware update due out when the DIRAC ships soon.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I still think it's a compatibility issue and firmware related, but it hasn't happened since the last Sony FW. The reason I know RMC/XMC is partly responsible is the fact that it only showed up after changing some settings and would go away after Factory Reset. weird

Yup, hearing the same thing on XMC-2 while in standby passing audio to TV last evening . Firmware 1.10. It comes and goes, not constant crackling, it just does every now and then.

Out of curiosity, if someone is talking does it punctuate the speech? Mine did. It was not just random crackling and pops. It was most apparent while there were sounds with lots of bass.

Yes, just like distorted signal.

If everyone would please post their issues there, you’ll get the experience of the whole community helping you, and we won’t have lots of random threads every time someone gets a new processor. This problem has been reported, it only occurs when you’re using Z2 ‘Follow Main’, if you’re not using an HDMI input you can select USB or Optical or whatever you’re using to solve the problem. Let’s move the conversation here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/56879/rmc-owners-thread-post-firmware

I didn't think to look in the main user thread, nor did i want to read thru 36 pages to find it. Didn't really know how to search for it. But I don't use zone 2 at all. Nor have I seen a "follow main" setting. What is that under?

That’s kind of the point of the Owners thread, it’s a place to discuss all issues for the new processors, if everyone starts a new thread then, well there’d be a lot of threads. Anyway there are two problems discussed here. Your crackling with TV speakers is not related to what I highlighted in bold about Zone 2, that’s where ‘Follow Main’ is. I don’t know of a workaround for your issue, but it has been reported. Edit: I see you found the Owners thread, great! I’ll bow out here.

Here is a workaround for the static on the left channel when using TV speakers or zone 2.
Go into the setup menu > select speakers > select preset 1> set front height speakers to “DD Enhanced Middle”, even though you don’t have any front height speakers. Other settings than none may also work but haven’t tested them. Exit the setup menu, now with the RMC-1/XMC-2 using preset 1 put it in standby mode and test the TV speakers, you should not hear any static. Currently I am using preset 1 when I want to use the RMC-1/XMC-2 in standby with my TV speakers and preset 2 when I want to use my full 5.0 system. Height speakers are set to none with Preset 2.
I know this workaround sounds crazy but there is some faulty code that causes this issue and will be resolved in the next firmware release. Please try this workaround and report back, solved the static problem for me.
