Wait... what? I thought the XMC-2 was only full differential on L-C-R and LFE? All channels are fully differential. Only L-C-R have the DACs running in mono mode which has a better s/n ratio. Rest of the channels have the same DAC but running in stereo mode. Awesome! I did not know that!

My XMC-1 arrived at Emotiva today... well, according to UPS it did. I expect I should see an email from Emotiva in the next day or so confirming this.

Rest of the channels have the same DAC but running in stereo mode. I have heard it both ways and it makes sense because there are 16 channels. If the 4 surrounds, 2 front wides, 4 ceilings and 2 subs / heights are in stereo mode. That means there are 6 DACs supporting the 12 channels. What’s left are the LCR and center sub (LFE). So it makes sense that there are 4 DACs running in mono mode. A possibility is that the LFE’s DAC is in Stereo mode and one channel is unused but that’s something that Emotiva can only answer as I have heard it both ways. For me as long as the LCR are fully balanced, what’s important is taken care of. The LFE being fully balanced doesn’t mean a whole lot as my subs don’t have fully balanced subs AND more importantly, I am only using the L/R sub input and don’t even use the center sub out 😊. I guess it’s good to know the specs but the XMC2 as I said it’s more that all most of us need. Just need all you guys to get Dirac too.

There was a bit of speculation about the nomenclature of "differential" in the past for sure LSC ; Keith explained it thus .. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/999136/thread

This has been discussed in the original RMC-1 owners thread that all 16 channels in all three processors are fully balanced. The DAC's Emotiva uses can run in stereo unbalanced, Stereo balanced or Mono balanced modes. Emotiva has said they are using the mono balanced mode for the l-c-r channels on the XMC-2 and all channels on the RMC-1/1l. The remaining channels on the XMC-2 are running in Stereo balanced mode (still really good). The mono mode gives you better signal to noise ratio. If you jump to the RMC-1l you gain the duel displays, Better input connectors and the DAC's run in mono mode for all channels. Going to the RMC-1 from the 1l you gain the expansion slots. I have the XMC-2 and it sounds amazing I have no regrets. Had a Marantz 7702mkii before it and the xmc-2 sounds so much better even without DIRAC.

Canada Border Services doesn’t care about the warranty, they do care about import/export. They allow for a 30 day window for warranty and returns. After that you may (probably will) return or return for repair with duties/taxes (may) be applicable. Remember that any updates to your returned item may cause reassessment for duties and taxes based on the full retail value. It is a luck of the draw when it hits CBSA...I have had $60 items reassessed and $1,500 items come with no fees whatsoever. Canada Customs/CBSC normally considers returning for warranty only for 30 days after originally importing to Canada, after that they consider it at retail or some arbitrary price. That is specifically if you "carry" it over the border. If it is shipped Customs takes it at invoice price plus exchange and you need to make sure the shipper marks it made in USA and puts the amount you actually paid for it, otherwise the fees and taxes can be on the MSRP as they do look them up online depending on how busy they are at Customs. hence USPS to Canada Post is the best for fees! It's like saying you bought groceries when crossing the border...soft drinks, potato chips, licorice, etc are NOT groceries and therefor are dutiable and taxable. Every time I cross the border I learn a new stupid rule of Customs...lol Let me make sure I have got this right, Canadian Customs assume that warranties, all warranties, every single one, only lasts for 30 days? Even if you have a warranty certificate that says 3 years? There is no way that that's actually legal, if anyone challenged it they would win, easily. Secondly there is an invoice with it that says $0, because it's a warranty return. So now they have to argue that they can set an arbitrary price and ignore a valid commercial invoice? Again no way that's actually legal and would be successfully challenged. We (in Australia) have had several Customs crack downs over the years and they all fail, because the customs agents challenge them on behalf of their clients. Think of a car company that has thousands of warranty parts crossing the border daily, do you think they pay duty on every single one? No chance, their customs agents would be all over it. They will have an agreed process for warranty parts and they sure as hell won't be paying duty twice, once on the original faulty part and once on the replacement part. Cheers Gary

Call me a fool... I went with the RMC-1L over the XMC-2.
I also plan on monoblocks for each channel too down the road. Figured it would be worth it. Oh at the time the XMC upgrade was sold out so the RMC-1L was available. Only money. Been really enjoying the RMC-1L since I have had it. Def a step up from the XMC-1 for sure.

I love the looks more than the XMC-2 but for the minor cosmetic differences and the LCR of the XMC-2 at the same audio level as the RMC-1L, the extra $1700 all said and done it gets too expensive for me up here in Canada My buddy just grabbed his XMC-2 this morning at 9am and mine showed up at the border company at 4pm so he will grab mine next week, but tomorrow I'm heading over there to have some drinks well unboxing his XMC-2 Chad
