Yes I tuned in to that from time to time. But I had been listening to Ramones and the Clash and Dead Boys and then became a huge punk fan in 79 when the Navy moved me to the SF Bay Area and I started hanging at the alternative and punk clubs in the City. Hardcore took over my life for quite a while.

“ earworm îr′wûrm″► n. A melody or a portion of a piece of music that is involuntarily repeated in one's mind. n. A tune that is stuck in one's head, especially as unwanted or repetitive.” Had to come back to the beginning of this for “ear worm clarification”. “Unwanted” is the catchword for sure! Not subliminal so much as being in your face or can’t get away from it, then it’s “planted”. I got most of my ear worms while cutting meat for 2 1/2 years between two other butchers and a meat wrapper that controlled the radio. All day those “worms” would fill my head and even though I was hard core Jazz at the time, I would have S***t like Rain “ Drops Keep Falling on my Head” smothering my brain 🧠. Bill

Bill Yeah, I actually am using that word "unwanted" loosely to mean, I didn't instigate it, like what happened with Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory episode. And while there are some earworms where I don't know the song title, or can't place the tune, most are songs I know very well. Like this morning, I was having a vivid dream about being in a refuse disposal yard where they were shoving garbage around with bulldozers to separate the types***, and the Simply Red song was playing in my head in the dream. I was awakened suddenly by the bobcat working next door digging in the backyard, so I guess I know where the bulldozer came from in the dream. ***Waste is not wasted. I've seen how waste yards work close to me. My job is building big houses. Part of that job entails making reports to the Villages and Cities we operate in that include how much waste goes where. The target is that 75% of everything related to a project is recycled, and it's very easy to meet that target. Most of our projects involve demolishing an existing house and hauling the refuse away. Well, including demo, digging and removing soil, dealing with all the building materials, packaging etc, anything that goes into a dumpster, 92% of what is transported out from the property is recycled on average. Further, I was told by one of the yard owners - before he sold to a huge corporation a couple years ago - that even garbage that's picked up at my home is sorted and distributed, it's not just blindly tossed into a landfill because that costs him money to do that. They push it around and then toss it on a huge conveyor belt that gets "picked through" by hand, so what's left at the end goes to the landfill.

What I find interesting is that some of these tunes I wake up with are playing in the "foreground", prominently, of whatever dreaming is happening. Like this morning, as I was awakening, the dream state morphed into an awakened state but the song never skipped a beat, which is nice because I really like this song - Radio, Radio. I especially love the version on the original Saturday Night Live when Elvis was told NOT to play that song, to which he begrudgingly agreed, but after starting the agreed upon song - he stopped, waved the band down, and played a rousing rendition of Radio, Radio!

I remember my mother telling me about a little ditty that was going off in her head for weeks, and she could never seem to get rid of it, to the point where it became somewhat frightening to her. Anyone remember the Mr. Clean ditty? "Mr. Clean will clean your whole house and everything within it"? I told mom to quit watching 'soap operas' day after day, and it would go away. She did, and it did!

Anyone remember the Mr. Clean ditty? "Mr. Clean will clean your whole house and everything within it"? I told mom to quit watching 'soap operas' day after day, and it would go away. She did, and it did! THAT is a great video! Very well done, thanks. Yes, jingles will do that often. One earworm I had early on in this thread is a tune that was used for chase scenes in silent movies, at least the re-released silent movies I watched on tv. It took 6 days of searching to find the tune and satisfy my brain. It turned out to be: Mozart: Rondo Alla Turca, Turkish March. I edited the post on Page 2 to update with my discovery. And speaking of jingles, when I was in first grade I knew most of the tv commercial jingles. There was a girl in my class who also knew a lot of jingles. Between the two of us, we knew every jingle on tv in 1963. But, there is one jingle I can only partially remember for Windex with the "New Pump Spray, jet automatic" pump spray bottle. Bothers me to this day that I can't remember more of it.

Van Morrison: Into The Mystic This one is a regular for me since I first heard it in the late 80s. Outstanding tune from an incredible artist. Scott
