I sometimes fall asleep with earworms, but I don’t wake up with them (Our morning garbage truck is very loud)

It was a closed show not open to the general public. My next door neighbor had a buddy in Hawaii who had a music shop. So, we would get “buyers” badges as though we were shopping for musical equipment. We weren’t. We were just there to check out all the concerts/shows/demos. But in doing so you’d see all sorts of well known people. I was there mostly to meet or have a favorite artist sign something. Anyways, saw Simon there and he signed a pic to me. Incredibly nice guy, we joked about the weather since he’s English. At the time he told me he’d lived in LA nearly 20 years. Saw him again later in the cafe. We were already seated and eating but he recognized me and stopped by the table to say hi a second time. If my stuff wasn’t packed away I’d provide the pic and autograph to prove my story, lol. Also met Kenny Aronoff around the same time. He too signed a pic to me. Another incredibly nice person.

That’s a great story…… And it’s always nice when you have the opportunity to meet world-class players or down to earth in real life and I’ve had a few similar experiences. One that wasn’t so nice was what was supposed to be a demonstration of those North drums remember those things that look like horns (I actually bought a kit and had them for I don’t know 10 or 12 years maybe a little longer and couldn’t wait to get rid of them at the end of the day) …… So it was the late great George Duke and Billy Cobham showing up at my local Sam Ash music store in White Plains for this North drum demo. Billy, walk in and I think we were waiting for around 3/4 of an hour if memory serves sitting in a classroom situation on the second floor above the store came in did nothing much more than a paradiddle around a few of the drums and then he actually said if you want to hear something come to one of our concerts (more or less) and he just left. For those who drove some distance those guys I would’ve been really pissed off, but for me was just a brisk walk , maybe 25/30 minutes from my house. Duke was much more amicable and hung around for a while. Steve Gadd was another story and I had a wonderful opportunity to actually record him for an entire evening at a “rehearsal “ in a local clam bar restaurant…. That turned out to be a blood and guts jam with a 16 piece jazz Orchestra of all top-notch players, not the least of which was Mike Brecker on saxophone…… I had a few guys come after me looking for copies of those tapes for a while, but never did that Because I gave my word to the band leader that those tapes were for my personal enjoyment only.

All great players. I especially like Steve Gadd’s drumming on “50 ways”. Unique and works well with the song. Once at NAMM, I literally stood 6’ from Billy Gibbons while he was playing with his own little band. Playing ZZ songs but a bit different. Gave me goosebumps. Had front row watching Ted (Nugent) play and Phil Collen from Def Leppard nearly ran me over as I was walking out of the bathroom. He was in quite the hurry running in and was very apologetic. The only person I ever met at NAMM that I didn’t think was very nice was Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). Maybe he was having a bad day or something. He did sign something for me but literally never said one word. Met Mickey Dolenz as he was hanging out in the Gibson (guitar) area. Super nice and friendly. He looks much taller on TV, lol.

Don't know why it's this one since I like the electric version better overall, but I do like the simple guitar sound in the beginning of this one better. And for the record, I'm not really a Foo fan, which is why I had to search through lots of songs to find the tune my brain came up with.
