I am looking for DACs that can decode 5.1 audio (and have 5 analog outputs). So at this juncture count me as a 'No'. But I will keep hoping that Emo will decide to build one:)

Hello one and all. Well we finally finished the revised cosmetic package and I wanted to put a quick pic for everyone. Full details about production and such to follow in a few days. I think the new design fits right in now and looks like an EMO product. Where is the headphone in? Was not suppose to have one?

Doug I found two: 1. www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8202 2. www.hllyelectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=180One could also use the Oppo BD-83 which has 7.1 analog outs and handles a large number of codecs. The only way to process digital files using the Oppo (in addition to using a CD or DVD) is to stream them via the ethernet port using a DLNA server. I wish it had additional HDMI or optical/digital inputs. I am hopeful Emo can build a multichannel DAC. I really don't have any use for the other ports or the video processing in the UMC-1 at this juncture as I am going all digital sources.

There is no reason to build a multichannel DAC when they offer a processor at the price point they do. Yes, a processor has more capabilities, but it is essentially a multichannel DAC. Plus, I don't think there is a huge market for that, but I could be wrong.

The Emotiva power button is missing What is it where indicated Standby? A button? If so, why is it not illuminated as the others? I honestly preferred the older design.

Does anyone know what op-amps will be incorporated into this design?

Does anyone know what op-amps will be incorporated into this design? I complied what I know here ( www.tweakcityaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2575): Emotiva XDA-1 digital-analog converter (DAC)Cost: $299.00 Specifications:(pending) Features:- headphone jack - volume control: digital & global (for all inputs) --- therefore, turn volume to MAX for use with pre-amp - 6 discrete output stages - selectable inputs - segmented power supply Other info:- 1 RU high - old name was XDC-1 - Lonnie (@ Emotiva forum): "Even though the ERC and XDA share the same DAC, the reason the XDA sounds so much better is because of the discrete output stage. In the ERC the design is a straight forward single dif, going to a single stage VAS and output stage. The XDA on the other hand uses a Dual dif input stage with crosslinked current sources, Darlington VAS stage and Darlington output stages, so the speed and current it can deliver is like night and day different from the ERC. So as good as the ERC sounded (and to be honest I thought it was amazing), the XDA is in a league all its own." Future:- "At this time I am just working on this one. The baby version is down the road. " Emonatics link:emonatics.com/XDA-1.shtml

Thanks Mike , Very good information. I am hoping to be able to tweak/modify this unit when I get it. I have read great things about discrete op-amps, and I want to see if I can incorporate them into the unit. www.partsconnexion.com/opamp_burson.htmlJohn

Does anyone know what op-amps will be incorporated into this design? There are Burr Browns right after the DAC just to act as a current follower. The real majic is in the discrete output stages. All of the outputs have their own discrete drive stage and there are no opamps used for any of the outputs.

me want! ooh, ooh! and is that dark circle left of centre a headphone jack? tell me it is...! -barry Sorry folks, the headphone didn't make it. After looking into it further, it would have required a complete new board design.
