Hi, I have a XPA-2 gen 1 for many years. I have this setup from the beginning, ..... and nothing has changed since. At first the blue LEDs strip moved with the music as expected. Recently I noticed the LEDs stop moving, but sound output still normal. From my research on Emotiva forum, many owners had the same issue, and the fix was to replace the board (carried out by owners). I don’t mind send in the amp, but it was so heavy!! (yesterday I almost tipped over trying to lift it up!!), plus I no longer have the original box...... it will be no easy task to ship it in... Im trying to find the easy fix for it. Does anybody know what was wrong?? what specific parts need to be replace? where to buy the parts?? any instruction?? thank you

EMO will probably be the only source for proprietary parts..... unless they buy the ladder display board and driver from some other company, which than means another support issue.
See if EMO will send you the part and give instructions on how to swap it. SAVE the old part and have a tech fix that one, too......A spare probably won't hurt, in this case.
Conventional PS amps with big toroids and a/b outputs are always heavy. You need heat sink and many output devices ot support that kind of output power.
That's one reason EMO went to a switcher PS and lower bias. Lighter weight amps with fewer shipping issues.....especially folks like yourself who are not 'expert' at this sort of shipping.
If you know a person with 'skills' maybe that would be a path out.....
Shipping back and forth would be a fortune. Almost cheaper to DRIVE the amp to hwerever and get a room for a couple nites. Original box may have helped.

UPDATE: I did research on this forum, and many members claimed Emotiva sent them the replacement CHIPs, and that fixed the issue. I contacted Emotiva, and after lengthy emails back and ford.... Emotiva refused to sell just the Chip... instead they wanted to sell the whole pcb board for ~ $150 (without warranty?!). Noted: I opened up the front panel, and the chip is just plugged into the socket (not soldered). I can easily pull out the old chip, and plug in the the new one... but no, Emotiva wanted to sell the whole pcb board!!. Just want to get it done, I ordered the damn part. Very disappointed, and unhappy with Emotiva. I have this amp for along time, and this issue started early, I did contact Emotiva from the beginning (Had all emails back and ford with them from years ago... I forwarded to them all). Thank you

What are the numbers ON the chip? Can you read any of it or did EMO 'scrub' the chip? How many pins? If over 8? (4 on a side DIP)
Will EMO send you a schematic? THAT will have the chip information on it.....at least enough for a tech to read. NO chip on the planet except some very dedicated stuff (Not bought by EMO) would be worth more than a couple bucks. Just an opamp?

At least at the time, I have always seen the board used in a repair. Never a chip. Has this changed? No idea. That is a great question for Emotiva support.

No substitute for schematic. 'Dirctionss' implies HOW to change the part.....Be it a board or simply plugging in a new, socketed 'chip'......
Some amps are easier to disassemble than others. My Carver Cube (M400t) was like a Chinese Puzzle Box. REALLY awful to take apart and get back together.
My Cambridge Audio DAC Magic+ requires a Philips screwdriver of about 10" shaft length....maybe longer? Not the most common home tool. But at least the screws are visible once you get the back panel off, which requires maybe 15 screws! Nutty overkill to discourage caaual disassembly. And Ill I'm doing is chasing a cold solder. NOTHING wrong with the piece. But it does NOT like it when temps rise above maybe 80f. The plug-in PS is fine at that time, too.

Anyway, Im posting the update below. Thank you

UPDATE: After talking to Emotiva's tech supports, I opened up the front panel to give them the exact board version/specs...etc... plus few pictures of the board itself. Then after lengthy more emails back and forth, tech support stated that EMO would sale me the whole front panel pcb for $140!! instead of just the chip!? Note that the chip is simply plugged into the socket, not even solder, and all the LEDs on my board is working fine (just not responded to signal level) !!. I think that is too much for this old amp... but since I wanted to get it done one for all, I ordered the part ($140).
The pcb board arrived today... after replaced with the new board, the LEDs meter STILL DOESNT WORK!!. At this point, I dont know what else to look at, and it is unpractical to send in the unit for service (almost 80bls). Does anybody have any idea what I should look at? check out??. Thank you

I will send the board back for a refund and keep using the amp until it dies. I used to have the gen2 and kept the lights off all the time. Just a suggestion

You NEVER answered about any markings / numbers on the chip in question. But I guess that is not moot.
Next up would be an actual schematic and someone who knows just WHAT is WHAT.......
Will htey refund a used board?

This is why throwing parts at something doesn’t always work. It may look obvious, but it could very well be a separate driver or resistor or cold solder joint down the line. At this point if you don’t know a good tech, you may want to just use it as is and save up for a new amp. Unfortunate.

Look like the only "easy" way to fix this is somehow get a hold of a full schematic, and have a local technician check it out. But it is impossible to obtain a schematic from EMO. Also since the new pcb board behaves the same as the old, Im afraid, like somebody said earlier, some components down the line is broken... but beyond my capacity to find out.....

Inability to get schematics disqualififes ANY further piece of equipemnt.
VERY good photo, BTW. Some kind of chip with which I'm not totally familiar......

How many LEDS in the display? Does 'power' LED still function?
NEXT bit of electronics I get COMES WITH a schamatic or no sale. Period.
Cambridge audio is chief offender. I had a DACMagic + and can't get a schematic. But they want some outrageous sum to fix what I KNOW is a cold solder.
My previous CA840 CD player (retail for 1200$) needed s software update to play properly with an Apple Airport Express......And they wanted to charge me 30$ for the update.
They DID give me the instructions and sofftware. But I needed to buy a Null Modem Cable AND use a particular OS. Of course, If I 'bricked' it, all bets were OFF.
And for such a High Dollar CD player? Cheapest mechanism possible. Used in MANY players in the 300$ to 500$ range Sanyo SF-P101n is the model.

How many LEDS in the display? Does 'power' LED still function? There are around 12 LEDs for each channel. The LEDs are all working (even on my original board). when turn on, they all lit up (red), after that only the inner most LED work (blue), so the circuit is broken somewhere. LED board is new, switch board is working (light working properly). The rest of the amp "seems" to work ok... Im trying to logically eliminate to narrow down with board might be the problem.... any idea??

Need schematic to make any intelligent comment. IMO? Next time buy an amp ONLY if you can get the schematic.....
It makes me mad that a manufacturer 'scrubs' the stamp off a part with the intent of 'forcing' some behavior. Than makes the schamatic a National Secret.
