LATEST RELEASE RMC-1, RMC-1L, XMC-2 FIRMWARE - as of 6/16/2021 - firmware v2.3 .
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS:THIS INFORMATION REMAINS AVAILABLE FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY.
- SIGNIFICANT improvements to ARC (Audio Return Channel) functionality.
We have made major updates to how ARC is handled in the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2.
ARC now works consistently with almost every TV we’ve tested it with.
- We have also made other improvements in general speed and responsiveness.
BUG FIXES:
- There was a specific unwanted interaction between our processors and some recent models of Panasonic 4k UHD Blu-Ray players.
While working normally during playback, our processor would start to respond slowly if the disc player was paused while playing
certain discs, and possibly even crash if the player was paused for an extended period of time.
THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
- There was a specific bug that would cause our processor to respond slowly if one of the Coax Digital audio inputs was selected
but the source was NOT delivering an active audio signal.
THIS HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
IMPORTANT CHANGE IN SPEAKER CONFIGURATION:
There has been a change in the way Dolby designates what we call “bounce speakers” as well as in how they are now
required to be configured. (This refers to height speakers that face upwards and bounce their audio signal off the ceiling).
You will notice changes to the Speaker Size Menu page after performing the update.
Dolby no longer recognizes “Dolby Enabled Height Speakers” as such.
Height speakers that operate facing upwards, and bounce their signal off the ceiling, are now designated as “Reflective Speakers”.
You will now find a separate item in the Speaker Size Menu: Reflective Speakers.
On this page you will check a box for each pair of Reflective Speakers you have.
You should make this selection BEFORE making other speaker configuration settings.
(This selection will affect the configuration choices you have in other places.)
NOTE: One limitation you need to be aware of is that, IF YOU HAVE A SINGLE PAIR OF REFLECTIVE HEIGHT SPEAKERS,
they MUST be designated as your Middle Height speakers. Therefore, if you check ONLY the Reflective Speaker check box
for Fronts, when you exit that menu you will find your Front Height speakers designated as Dolby Enabled Middles
(and, when configured that way, you will be expected to connect those Dolby Enabled Middle speakers to the
FRONT HEIGHT OUTPUTS on the processor).
Most other settings are intuitive as long as you identify your Reflective Speakers first.
NOTE: Also note that ALL speakers designated as Reflective Speakers WILL be considered to be SMALL speakers
NOTE: Also note that ALL speakers designated as Reflective Speakers WILL be considered to be SMALL speakers
and by default their crossover frequency will be set to 250 Hz.
This default is a Dolby requirement and will work best with many speakers and rooms.
However you may feel free to adjust it if you prefer.
UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download the firmware update file and place it in the main folder of a USB stick formatted as FAT32
- the USB stick you use must be formatted as FAT32 on a Windows computer or purchased as "compatible with Windows and Apple computers"
(USB sticks formatted with the default FAT32 format on an Apple computer will not work)
- you MAY download and copy the file using a Windows or Apple computer
- make sure there are no other firmware update files in the main folder on the stick
- the download will arrive in the form of a firmware file - which is the actual firmware update file
(don't worry about the file extension - there is no need to extract this file)
2) Insert the USB stick with the file on it into the USB update port on the front panel of your processor
3) Enter the Setup Menu and select SETUP | ADVANCED | FIRMWARE UPDATE command
4) Use the UP ARROW to check the box, then the LEFT ARROW to confirm the update and start the update process
5) DO NOT INTERRUPT THE UPDATE PROCESS UNTIL IT HAS COMPLETED
- the update process will normally take about ten minutes
- if the update process stops unexpectedly... and appears to have "hung-up"... WAIT THIRTY MINUTES... then turn the unit off and on again using the main power switch
6) The processor will usually shut down after the update process completes successfully
- at this point you may remove the USB stick and turn the processor off and on again
- if the processor DOES NOT shut down after twenty minutes, and the display continues to show Updating Front Panel, then the update has probably completed successfully
(if this happens, wait an additional ten minutes to make sure the update has completed, then turn the unit off and on again using the main power switch)
7) Enter the Setup Menu, select SETUP | INFORMATION, and confirm that "Firmware Version" now shows "2.3 21/06/09"
NOTE:
This file updates the RMC-1 family of processors (RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2).
This file DOES NOT update the XMC-1 and should NOT be used to do so.
This file DOES NOT update the XMC-1 and should NOT be used to do so.
NOTE:
Because of the way DropBox file storage service interacts with your Web browser this file may download
as either "EmotivaUpdate-2_3-2021_06_16" or "EmotivaUpdate-2_3-2021_06_16.ZIP" or "EmotivaUpdate-2_3-2021_06_16.DAT".
There is no need to rename the file to use it to update your processor.
HOWEVER the file is really a special format we use for firmware update files and NOT a ZIP archive.
Therefore, if you try to open the file, or extract it, or test it, as a ZIP archive, it will fail.
This is NORMAL and does NOT mean that the file is bad.
NOTE:
The Ethernet port on our processors takes a full 30 seconds to completely reset when you power the unit down.If you power the processor off, then on again, without waiting long enough, the Ethernet port will not restart properly.
Therefore, if your processor reboots as part of an update, and it restarts too quickly, you may lose network connectivity.
If so, try simply powering the unit down, and waiting a full 30 seconds before powering it back on.
UPDATE NOTES:
Firmware version 2.3 SUPERSEDES AND REPLACES ALL PREVIOUS FIRMWARE VERSIONS and we recommend that all users install it.
Firmware version 2.3 incorporates all of the features included in previous firmware versions plus several new features and bug fixes.
UPDATE NOTE: [added 2/18/2021]
If you use the Video Remains On standby feature ("high power standby")...
Only the TV connected to HDMI Output #2 will receive audio when the processor is in Standby.
GENERAL UPDATE NOTES:
1)
YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM A FACTORY RESET ON YOUR PROCESSOR AFTER INSTALLING THIS UPDATE.
However, depending on your speaker configuration, you may find that certain height speaker configurations produce unexpected results after this update. If this happens you may have to do a Factory Reset. At that point you MAY try restoring settings you have previously saved.
However, if that is unsuccessful, you MAY be required to re-enter your configuration settings manually.
2)
IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY ODD BEHAVIOR AFTER PERFORMING THE UPDATE...
PROCESSOR USAGE NOTES:
We have become aware that many of the problems people have been experiencing are due to compatibility issues between modern HDMI 2.0 devices
WE SUGGEST THAT YOU RESET ALL OF THE HDMI DEVICES YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO YOUR PROCESSOR.
TO DO THIS: PHYSICALLY UNPLUG THE POWER ON YOUR PROCESSOR, YOUR TV OR PROJECTOR, AND ALL CONNECTED HDMI DEVICES.
Everything must be unplugged AT THE SAME TIME for at least ten seconds.
This will ensure that all of your devices go through a full reboot.
(We DO NOT REQUIRE this but, if you have ANY problems, then you should do it.)

PROCESSOR USAGE NOTES:
We have become aware that many of the problems people have been experiencing are due to compatibility issues between modern HDMI 2.0 devices
and older HDMI 1.4b devices. (HDMI 2.0 is supposed to be backwards compatible with older devices - but some people experience issues when connecting
HDMI 1.4 devices to HDMI 2.0 inputs.)YOU CAN CONFIGURE EACH INPUT ON THE RMC-1. RMC-1L, and XMC-2 FOR MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY WITH
EITHER HDMI 2.0 OR HDMI 1.4 DEVICES. (Note that, when you set an Input to HDMI 1.4, that Input will no longer allow 4k video, which HDMI 1,4 doesn't support,
until you set it back to HDMI 2.0 .)
