For the 2.1 guy, those the bass management crossover is REQLUIRED. I couldn't do without a similar feature in my preamp. Makes integrating speakers with sub SO MUCH easier.
Also? Boom mentioned 20% capacitors. Yes, 10% is more $$ and you maybe able to find 5%?, but at what cost?
However? 1% resistors in 1/2 watt and 1/4 watt are commodity cheap. In the numbers EMO would buy? A bargain for good, film resitors.
I doubt even Vishay would be a deal breaker.
I'm going to be buying some 1N4007 Diodes soon. This is anothe commodity cheap part. Even the local electronics supply house gets only .50$ per for 'em....
If I was willing to ship off? Even LESS costly.

If I may (as a 2.1 guy), I’ll admit to being unsure of how to exploit this new connection scheme and ‘active bass management’.
My Emotiva Bas-X suite is attached to a pair of NHT C-3s and reinforced by a previous generation SVS SB2000. I’m currently running my preamp analog outs to the subwoofer IN, then running the subwoofer OUTs to the amplifier. This way, I’m using the fixed 80HZ high pass filter to ensure my speakers are perfectly crossed over with the subwoofer. I used an 80 hz sine wave and a db meter in the listening position to adjust the subwoofer phase. I feel my current setup sounds perfect. But, I’m always looking to tweak something or learn something new to improve.
So, what will this new connection scheme and bass management enable me to do with my setup (yes, I have one if these on order)?
Thanks!

Anyone received a shipping notice yet? I received an e-mail yesterday saying mine won't ship until mid August. I'm not in any rush though, so I'm not too concerned.

On my pre? I can LOW CUT them or send Fulll Range signal to amp. For the sub? HIGH cut (opposite of main speakers) OR send full range signal to sub. I low cut my mains and full range to sub. I use the crosover IN the sub to remove all the highs and limit the sub to say......50hz or so....with a 24db / octave slope. So? ONE octave up....at 100hz, output is down 24db. A lot. Way below the limit needed to find the sub BY EAR. My main speakers are considered full range but definately not bass monsters. They give up around 36hz or so. I Low Cut them higher than that. My PRE has a sub level control on the front, which I never have touched.

I received an e-mail yesterday saying mine won't ship until mid August. I'm not in any rush though, so I'm not too concerned. Disappointing. I was hoping to get a quick review out, but I haven't even received a shipping notice at all, yet. Apparently Emotiva's "early August" shipping date was wishful thinking.

The FM radio is a waste in this day and age. I want built in streaming instead.

You actually have several options...
The simplest would be to connect the HIGH-PASS output from the PT1 to the amplifier that runs your main speakers... And connect the LOW_PASS output from the PT1 to the input of the SVS sub... Set the filter on the SUB ALL THE WAY UP (LFE) to bypass that as much as possible... And, as before, set the phase on the sub properly for your listening position...
This way the PT1 will be handling all of the bass management and everything should line up properly...

Thank you for the response Keith. I'll attempt that connection scheme when I get my new unit hooked up.
For everyone else, I received my shipping notification today.

Delivered last night, Friday 20 Aug. Unpacked, setup and playing with it this morning.
I’ll leave the unboxing stuff to someone else. Suffice it to say, it was beautifully and safely packaged in a cloth bag, suspended in foam supports, then double boxed.
Form factor as compared to my outgoing PT-100 is identical. Hook-ups are somewhat simplified with Bluetooth now being built in and the active bass managed high-pass/low-pass connections for the outputs. The latter allowed me to eliminate one set of RCAs, running the high-pass outs to the amp while running a single LFE connection to the subwoofer LFE input (I was previously using my subwoofer’s crossover before running the output to the amplifier).
Before I turned the power on, I read through the manual. FYI, this manual covers both the PT1 and soon-to-be released TA1, with different sections clearly detailed where needed to differentiate. Boy oh boy does Emotiva want you to know they fixed the tuning section and remote control. Remote control functionality is highlighted throughout the manual as appropriate to each section, and the Tuner functionality description gets 3.5 pages by itself, to include a logic tree describing the menu functionality.
A side-by-side specifications comparison between the PT-100 and PT1 manuals show some interesting differences. (All stated measurements not described here are identical between the two units)
-Asynchronus USB input went from a 24/96k on the PT-100 to a 24/192k for the PT1 -S/N ratio on the Analog (line level) connections went from >115db (PT-100) to >120db (PT1) -S/N ratio on the phono input went from >90db (MM) and >68db (MC) on the PT-100, to >78db (MM) and 58db (MC) on the PT1 -IMD under Digital Performance went from <0.004% (SMPTE) on the PT-100, to <0.007% (SMPTE) on the PT-1
Cosmetically, there are some welcome changes, a couple of which improve functionality.
-Volume knob is larger and knurled providing a bit of functional aesthetic. Additionally, because of the size increase, the .5 incremental increase/decrease in volume is now easier to move up/down more quickly. This was a minor gripe of mine on the PT-100, where the knob was smaller and I had to turn, turn, turn, turn the knob to get the volume up/down like I wanted. Also, the volume knob is now only illuminated at the top 120deg horizon of the knob (not illuminated in a full 180 deg halo). Not a gripe, just highlighting the difference.
-Power/standby LED indicator has been relocated to the upper right hand corner of the VFD, just to the right of the volume knob. This is fine and still shows the traditional amber (standby), but it's a departure from the illumination scheme of the center power button on all other Emotiva units I’ve owned or even seen. This difference becomes VERY noticeable if you ‘stack’ this new unit with older units, as the PT1 is very obviously missing the pretty little amber or blue circle around power button with the small “e” and halo illuminated. The button is still there, it's just not illuminated and doesn’t look like the buttons on the other units. This trips my OCD a bit, but ultimately a non-issue.
-The word “Input” is illuminated between the two buttons that allow scrolling through input selections - Nice touch -The headphone icon is illuminated - Also a nice touch
-The main view LCD has a little less violet in the coloring, opting for a bit of added white and very light green. This addresses another minor gripe of mine from the PT-100, where the VFD matched the color of the blue buttons and other lighting, but became almost blurry and hard to read from 10ft+ away. This new lighter, slightly whiter color makes it much easier to read from a distance. And just FYI, the color isn’t THAT much different from the traditional Emotiva blue to create a tacky contrast. It's better. That's all I can say.
Functionally and performance-wise, I’m still playing with things and will wait before passing any long-term judgements. I will highlight a couple of things right away however.
-Asynchronus USB input now works for me (this input on my PT-100 never worked properly). I’m now streaming Tidal Master tracks from iPhone and iPad with ease and they sound great. Very, very happy about this.
-Active bass management high-pass/low-pass scheme seems to work well. I hooked up my sub using the low-pass output (LFE), while sending the high-pass outputs to my amplifier. I set the crossover on my subwoofer to “LFE”, made a quick phase adjustment and then let the PT1 take over. I haven’t sampled all of my critical listening tracks yet to see if I hear differences, but so far, so good.
-Volume output of the phono input (my turntable) seems lower for a given volume increment. I’m very familiar with my normal volume settings when I play records in this given space, and I’m finding I now need to turn up the volume slightly higher on this new unit to get the dynamics I’m accustomed to. Not a complaint, just noting the difference.
-FM Tuner is now useable!! Yes, I played with the tuning section, referencing the now very detailed manual. It works very well. I honestly don’t use the FM tuner at all, but its good to know it actually works on this unit.
-Remote is finally an actual, useable remote. It’s intuitive and just woks like you think it should (‘Enter’ button for the win). It also has some very nice “Digi”, “Ana”, “FM”, “DIM” and "menu" buttons to directly access those functions.
-Menu logic could still be improved. There’s nothing wrong with it and it's very useable and functional once you understand it, but it is NOT intuitive and has to be learned. Thankfully, a map of the menu tree/logic is included in the manual for reference.
That’s it for now. The listening continues with more impressions, questions and discussions to come.
Thank you Emotiva for getting us this MUCH improved product. This really is the bang-for-buck king of 2 channel tuner/pre-amps and I’m very, very happy with it. Keep up the great work!

I sampled tracks and sources all weekend, utilizing all 3 digital inputs to really exercise the DAC.
My CD-100 CD transport is connected via coax My TV is connected via the optical My iPad Pro is connected to the USB
To be honest, I don’t really notice much (if any) difference in the performance of the DAC. My TV audio (Streaming Dolby Audio) sounds the same as it did before. Similarly, the CD playback sounds the same. That said, my iPad Pro pushing Tidal Master tracks through the DAC sounds GREAT! I didn’t reliably have this capability before, so this has been a real treat for me. I have a feeling this is more due to the improved USB input as opposed to the DAC itself, however.
Just my $.02

I was wondering how the phono stage in the PT-1 compares to th xps-1 stand alone phono stage.

I like the sound of the Big Ego+ DAC better than that of the USB input on the PT1. The Big sounds more open to my ears. So I'm currently running the Big into the analog CD input of my PT1.
I'd previously split the output of the Big, running the full range output into the satellite speaker amp, and then trying to use the low-pass filter on the sub to "blend in" the sub where the satellites normally rolled off. This could sound pretty good, but there was always at least some wooliness in the overlap area.
The PT1 gives up nothing in transparency to the Big direct, but sure cleans up the crossover region.
So far, the only complaints I have about my PT1 are that I get poor BlueTooth reception and I still hate the all-black Emotiva color scheme. I may eventually (again) have to strip the paint from the trim pieces and maybe deanodize the volume control knob. But for $400, this is the BEST preamp I've heard. It doesn't have the soundstage of my Audio-gd, but nothing else ever does.
So will I keep the PT1 or the Audio-gd (or both)? Stand by...
