I know I probably won't get the most unbiased opinion here but I'll post to see what you say. I'm just stuck between several brand/models in my price range Emotiva T2+ being one. Its the only tower on my list as I am more of a bookshelf speaker guy, oh this is for HT 90%. My subs are SVS PB-2000 Pro and I had a PB-1000 already that I'm making it work. I know not ideal but its working for me. I have RSL CG23 speakers for LCR and CG3s for surrounds which are very good, just want to step up. On my list and I go back forth between them all are the RSL CG5 speakers, SVS Ultra Bookshelf/center, JBL which is a giant speaker company of course but the JBL Studio 530/570s possibly too, now its also the Emotiva T2+. Yeah the JBL 570 is a tower but its very, very small, like a mini tower. The Emotiva T2+ intrigues me for the 3-way design and the folded ribbon tweeter. Overall I just want something that is not fatiguing to listen to, and is very detailed, I like to hear the nuances in movies and music. Let me know what you think, thanks. Oh my budget for the mains alone is up to 800 bucks.

“I know I probably won't get the most unbiased opinion here “ Why do you say this?

“I know I probably won't get the most unbiased opinion here “ Why do you say this? Well I would assume most of the people in here are big Emotiva fans and customers. It wasn't meant to offend.

I spent some quality time with the SVS Ultra towers and Ultra Center in my previous HT setup... very impressive for the price. I compared them to Ascend Acoustic towers and my 20 year old B&W Matrix speakers. The SVS Ultra Bookshelf and Ultra Center would get my vote...

I got it…anyway it seems like you’ve got a pretty good idea already what appeals to you in your price range. Not so easy these days but TRY to get out there and listen as much as possible, before laying out the change. Your own ears will tell you more than most suggestion you can get.

Forgot to mention that the SVS come with a 60 day in home trial with free shipping both ways, so it's a no brainer to give them a listen.

Thanks guys, appreciate that and yeah I hate that a lot of these companies are not doing free shipping both ways. Aperion has a 10% restock fee, Emotiva does not do free shipping back. SVS and RSL both do free shipping both ways. Which will sound better is the biggest question? Now throw in another entry which is Monoprice Monolith THX 265/365 mini tower and the THX 3 way center. I'm cluttering up my decision even more.

In terms of reputation (and resale value) I'd vote SVS. Monoprice and Emotiva probably have better absolute sound quality for the money spent, but their resale value is virtually zero. And If I had to choose between Monoprice & Emotiva, I'd vote Emotiva. Emotiva's engineering is probably better than Monoprice's and the sound quality would probably bear that out.
With ANY of the speakers you're considering, the amplification will make a HUGE difference. If you're running an AVR, you won't be getting the best of your speakers. Of course, for movie use, it won't matter much anyway - (the front R/L speakers are "effects" speakers only).
Happy Shopping!

If you are running an AVR you won’t get much benefit with the T2s. They are good speakers, but need a proper amp to open them up.

I made choices for the core components in my system (all are large, heavy and bulky), to pickup dealer direct and also to rent my own truck and buy my own collapsible hand truck. For me, the end result was too important to handle any other way. I understand that’s not a viable solution for quite a few, if not most folks.

I'm cluttering up my decision even more. As someone else pointed out, shipping is not "free." Actual shipping costs are pretty darn high and companies that offer "free" shipping have to build that into the price of their products. It also means that those people who live closer to the company are subsidizing those who live farther away when it comes to shipping charges that are either flat rate or included in the price. That said, I do love having "free shipping" even if that is just psychology. And by all means take advantage of that policy in order to demo the products in your own home, but on the other hand I can appreciate why companies charge for shipping either both or one way, and charge restock fees. These are all valid expenses and it comes down to whether you want to charge them to the person who actually causes you to incur those expenses, versus spreading the cost among everyone so that all purchasers are subsidizing one another. Another way to look at it is that any fee you do pay if you decide not to keep the item is considered rent for the time you use it.

Thanks guys, I have a Parasound 5 channel amp with plenty of power for the 5 main speakers. I honestly don't which way to go. I get that shipping isn't technically free but there is not separate charge put it that was. 500 bucks for the speaker is 500 bucks. I'm sorry but that just works for me in my mind.

I chose my brand because they’re made 15 minutes from my dealer, who is 2 hours from my home. Never shipped anywhere!

My son used Crutchfield to test a few bookshelves... 3 pairs were ordered, 2 pairs returned. I think it cost $12 / pair for return shipping. We auditioned a pair of SVS Prime bookshelves, Martin Logans and Wharfedale Diamonds... he kept the Wharfedales.

I really like the ID companies, like RSL, Emotiva, Ascend, Aperion and PSA though out of my price range. Which Wharfedales did he end up with? I'll research them.
