I hope this the right spot for this I apologize in advance if not, and please move if necessary.
HDMI 2.1 was certified on January 4th 2017.
I need a new Processor, I have been using a Yamaha CX-5000 that was given to me and works awesome for me now and feel fortunate to have it. I bought an Emotiva XPA gen 3 11 channel recently, as I am a one stop guy for now. Should I need more power or speaker connections I will just get another amp some day and or have Emotiva modify my current XPA 3. I currently run 7.2 and I am going to at most, for now, add to 11.2.
However, I have a TV with EARC and HDMI 2.1 ( an LG C9 OLED ) and I want to be able to use the HDMI with EARC. I want to be able to fully use it. I realize Blu-ray only needs HDMI 2.0 so that is a non issue. But if I ever upgrade or or want to upgrade to 8k ( not worth it to me now) or be happy for awhile I would like to have it in my new processor.
Spending 17K on a Trinnov Alt 16 or 10K-12K on a Lyndorf is NOT going to happen. I am regular guy with an okay salary but does not have that kind of spare change for my hobby, so buy once and cry will not apply. Reality has a place in my life. ( I am NOT jealous of those who or can, I am quite happy for them ) I can do 5K with a bit of work AND Emotiva lets me use AFFIRM to pay for things and that changes the ball game for me making 5K doable!
There is the 8805A Marantz that has can be upgraded, 2 of the Anthems ( AVM 70 or 90) and a couple of others. Even Monoprice has the the HTP1 which has DIRAC, has a way to get to HDMI 2.1 all 5K or under. Roon and DIRAC even play nicely together sometimes in some units. Plus if you read the Audio Science Review forums Emotiva's processor has been taken to task not really sure if fair or not to be honest. I am well aware of chip shortages etc. but shouldn't Emotiva at least have SOMETHING on board or coming??? I really want my XPA and Processor to match and I am kind of a brand loyal guy when I can be!!!
So given all that, where is Emotiva on HDMI 2.1 on a new processor or upgradeability on their current processor as it will soon be 5 years since HDMI 2.1 has been certified???
Thanks to all who read through all this.

That is NOT encouraging... I remember when Emotiva first started, high end at affordable pricing! I love my Airmotive 4s and for pricing you could NOT beat them. HDMI 2.1 is is a now a needed part in a lot of people's set ups because all the the new upper end TVs now have HDMI 2.1 ports with eARC and this did NOT happen in a vacuum. I realize a chip shortages may have slowed them down but it should not have stopped R&D to keep up since it was CERTIFIED back in early 2017. Thanks for the reply, I can tell it comes from dealing with Emotiva awhile and seeing how slow they can be. But going on 5 years is a bit long I will not hold my breath either... It's a good thing you really can't even buy a processor as they are almost OOS everywhere, it gives them more time to come up with SOMETHING...

Do tell, what insider information do you have? Inquiring minds want to know.

Have you called Emotiva and personally asked them? If I ever want information, I go straight to the horses mouth, anything else is just speculation. Having said that, my new Sony OLED(XR-77A80J) has two HDMI 2.1 full bandwidth 48Gb ports, one of them eARC, and I have no sources that are capable of 8K@60 or 4K@120, and besides gamers with gaming consoles or capable video cards, I'm not sure when streamers like ATV4K/ROKU/FireTV/etc.,etc., will ever offer 8K streaming content. The 8K panels that you refer to rely on upscaling to 8K. I get your need for eARC, but it's nothing that can't be overcome with a dedicated streamer, as cheap as they are. Personally I'm sure Emotiva will offer an HDMI 2.1/8K video card, when is the question, I just don't believe HDMI 2.1 is front and center as a need right now

I'm going off their track record. They announced the XMC-1 with HDMI 2.0 capability. Which it didn't have (it was HDMI 1.4). Following that, the upgrade to HDMI 2.0 would be no problem. We waited years till the XMC-1 caught up and finally released HDMi 2.0b boards. When they did, almost all new tvs being sold were HDMI 2.0 tvs with HDR 10 and had been so for quite some time. If you are expecting Emotiva to keep current with trends or be proactive, then you'll be very dissapointed. At best, you can expect them to finally catch up, years later. Does anybody remember how long it took for atmos support to come out? Years later, and that happened around the time of their NEW RMC-1. A new product that had to be up to date on launch. Right now HDMI 2.1 tvs may be capable but there's no necessary format in widespread use that requires HDMI 2.1 compatibility. As in the tv will function without HDMI 2.1. Until all tvs are 8K and HDMI 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 seems like the dodo, I wouldn't be expecting an update. Pessimistic? Yes. But not without reason.

My suggestion: buy the product for what it has. Any upgrades, don't hold your breath, but hopefully they'll get around to it some day.

My HTPC I has an 2.1 HDMI port to watch video files so I want to go 120 MHZ and use eARC which the TV does. I realize nothing lasts forever unless you have a Trinnov, but a processor with HDMI 2.1 will last you a whole lot of years!! At this point I raised a legitimate question and you make very good points. I CAN use the HDMI 2.1 port and I would like to have eARC vs. JUST Arc, but that's just me. I will call them this week and ask plus I do know Emotiva staff DOES read the forums and hopefully in a few days if I haven't called by then they can provide insight. At this point in time it's nothing radical asking for working HDMI 2.1 input/output ports. I do appreciate your insight and replies, the always help any conversation!

Could not agree with the statement "Buy the product for what it has", anymore, as this goes for any and all products. If a product doesn't have what is on your "Must Haves" list, then it should be crossed off. Besides the Marantz AV8805A, I'm not sure what other processors offer HDMI 2.1, but I have a feeling its quite a short list.

Denon has it already implemented on their receivers with a bug fix for the older ones of some models and Yamaha is offering a free upgrade to fix the bug for the HDMI 2.1 on their receivers Anthem, Marantz, Trinnov, and Monoprice have already committed to upgrading to HDMI 2.1 on some current units. At least 3 of those are attainable by quite a few. I am not trying to be difficult and if I have to wait a bit I will. I just wanted to have an idea what I want to plan and save for it just like most. Plus the Marantz and the Emotiva TOTL both go for the same amount. For me spending that kind of change is an investment and I want to be able to enjoy it knowing I am good for many years to come with no compatibility issues. And come January HDMI 2.1 will be certified 5 years so I am not asking for a super fast change of the guard from HDMI 2.0b

I'm still HDMI 1.4 as my projector is 1080p, I do not even close to have the funds to upgrade my projector and processor or get the 2.0 card, what benefit does 2.1 currently have, isn't 2.0 running 4K right now ??

Chad I get the funding issues TRUST me. I have been building up piece by piece for 3-4 years now. I wanted the HDMI 2.1 for the 120MHZ refresh rate and for HDMI 2.1 being more useful in the future. The C9 was my first TV upgrade since my Pioneer Elite Plasma over 6-7 years ago when Pioneer gave out deals to blow out their remaining inventory. I keep stuff for a very long time too. I STILL have the Pioneer Elite 50" in another room it's still so good even @1080p and for most stuff that's just fine!

Not speaking for Emotiva here, but if its a commitment you are looking for, I'm pretty sure Lonnie and KeithL have mentioned a commitment to an 8K/HDMI 2.1 board in the future. They haven't and aren't going to give you a specific date as they have been burned in the past for doing this. In this way, they are no different than Anthem/Trinnov/Monoprice, since according to each of their respective websites none of them are offering HDMI 2.1 at this time. For that matter, Anthem doesn't have a date for their AVM90(just Fall 2021) and the HTP-1 isn't in stock at Monoprice either(estimated in stock 10/31/21). Though with the global chip shortages, I fully expect this type of news. Just so you know, I haven't taken you as being difficult, for that matter it has nudged me to do some research on this and now I feel like I'm a bit more up to speed. Also if you are looking for an update on the new DolbyAtmos/DSU/DTS:X Pro/IMAX Enhanced, but I believe KeithL said this is currently being worked for a future firmware update, but again no specific dates.

Yes it gets expensive, I went with new speakers last winter, three Chane 753 and two Chane 752 and being in Canada it gets very expensive due to shipping, exchange rate and fees, right now with any of the Emotiva processors you get the 2.0 board and in the future will be able to go 2.1 but as others say who knows when especially in these times, heck I'm still waiting on my outrigger feet for my 753 towers, Chane buys them from a company that makes them but they are back ordered, so with electronic components who knows for any of the manufactures and could come down to who pays more to get the product first haha. I still enjoy my 100" 1080p screen enough I don't feel the need to change yet, my buddy has a 120" 4K and it is a bit sharper but I'm okay with what I have as sound is actually more important for me Chad

HDMI 2.1 was certified on January 4th 2017. Not challenging your post, but do you have a reference for that? Best I could find was “Announced” on that date, and “Released” on November 28, 2017 (whatever that means), can’t find mention of ”Certified” or something more official sounding (even on HDMI.org). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_2.1I have no need for it (though my TV says it’s 2.1), I’m mostly interested if it might sync faster or give some other benefit to my current gear. As LCSeminole suggests, even most with 2.1 TV’s probably don’t ‘need’ it given the sources available. I doubt we’ll get any dates here, the post below is the only reference to it I know of, I’d take it to mean ‘it’s coming’. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/1072040/thread

I own an AV8805 and will not send it in for the “A” upgrade until those remaining issues are resolved. Of the remaining brands you’ve mentioned, none have a working HDMI 2.1 board. They’ve only committed to an upgrade path. Emotiva has made this same commitment. Since they’re currently on “Generation 3” of their own HDMI board (which began with the XMC-1), I have no reason to believe that they’re not already working on a 2.1 compatible “Gen 4” behind the scenes. But considering all of the issues D&M has had to endure because of Panasonic’s failures (and since Emotiva also uses that same Panasonic HDMI chipset), I’m perfectly fine waiting as long as it takes to get perfectly working chips from the OEMs. Aside from the new gaming platforms, there’s no other source components that need, or can exploit, what HDMI 2.1 offers.

It adds support for higher resolutions and higher refresh rates, including 4K 120 Hz and 8K 120 Hz. HDMI 2.1 also introduces a new HDMI cable category called Ultra High Speed (referred to as 48G during development), which certifies cables at the new higher speeds that these formats require. I said that because how can you certify cables if you don't have an official certification of the standard. I apologize if I was misreading that or misunderstanding, but that is how I took it. Either way can agree it has been official for awhile I think. Again sorry if I caused any confusion.

… Again sorry if I caused any confusion. Nothing to be sorry about, I was just looking for a reference to the certification date, and thought the language was vague. HDMI.org had lots of documentation for certifying cables, but little on the actual 2.1 cert.
