The cost was $185: lumber is a common stock white pine from Lowe’s, quite a few strategically placed angle brackets on the bottom side of the boards, and quite a few 2in hex head wood screws for extra rigidity and strength. I’ll be adding a panel for the open space on the bottom to hide wire runs to complete the look. For those with a little bit of “diy” in you, these are so much better than what you can buy(not to mention way less expensive) and custom made/measured for the space, not to mention the satisfaction knowing you did this yourself.

I made this media shelving for behind my couch, my diy project the last two days. I had blurays and other stuff scattered everywhere, so organizing was a must for the New Year. Not sure if I’ll end up staining them, but for now I’m pleased with the finished product. My 1723 Bookshelf S speakers are getting a plug in this picture. View AttachmentLooks good. Well done! Thanks geebo, it’s great to finally have had enough time off work to make it!!!

Very nice indeed... makes me want to do something similar for my library. Safe to assume the height speakers above the media shelving are your atmos rears? Been trying to map out placement for mine and based on the room / seating position, it would seem rear wall mounting would be best.

Thanks Luis, I’m finding the shelving has quickly helped in de-cluttering of media, remotes, headphones, etc. and is easily accessible while being organized as well. In my case, the rear wall at ceiling level was my only option as my kitchen is open on one side. When Arendal makes a voice matched in-ceiling speaker, I’ll consider cutting into my ceiling, but it’s vaulted, so some planning for speaker boxes would be necessary.

Well I’m now seven full months in as the owner of a 7.x.4 Arendal 1723/1723S speaker setup and now that travel for work has substantially slowed down(for me) in the new year I've finally had time to finalize almost all of the little stuff that makes my living room a respectable home theater experience. New couch, area rug, re-ran Dirac because of the slight change in speaker placement and some re-wiring of the rear/side surrounds, also bought new custom length Mogami 2549 XLR cables and have finally settled on and implemented quite an effective and inexpensive way of de-coupling my speakers from my hard woods called hockey pucks. My new room setup has really worked in my favor sound-wise, so I'm now re-visiting quite a few of my uhd-bluray movies and in honor of the new upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, the first John Wick movie just ended and Chapter 2 is up next. The more I hear my Arendal Sound 1723 setup, the more I realize just how much more precise, intricate and seamless the sound is(especially the midrange) compared to my former Klipsch Legend/Reference speakers and other speakers that I've demoed on my journey to where my home theater is today. Every one of my 1723 speakers has been a significant upgrade in every way build, quality, finish and drivers and I consider this money well spent. If I didn't know any better, I'd honestly think I was in the middle of one of the hit scenes in these movies!!!

The following is the list of subwoofers that I considered to compliment my Arendal 1723/1723 S series speakers. The subwoofers that I considered and the reasoning why I didn't go with Arendal's 1723 Subwoofer 2V.
SVS PB-4000: To me this is an updated side ways/lateral move from what I currently have, not a fan of the black ash or gloss black finishes. SVS PB16-Ultra: Definitely a step above what I have now, amplifier-wise. The driver(16in) is definitely overbuilt and a substantial upgrade but also has a bigger price tag($2899) that I think isn't a bang for your buck match. PSA EV1813: Once I started looking at PSA, I realized that I wasn't going to settle for a driver 15in or smaller. It's also what I consider to be PSA's entry into subwoofers with 18in drivers. This sub apparently has most of what I'm looking for, but the Frequency Response and In-Room Extension are very comparable to the SVS PB16-Ultra, and to be honest I'm thinking I wanted to make a bigger jump for an upgrade so I'm not left wanting more after the trial period and purchase.
PSA TV1813M: I've pre-ordered two of these, which is most definitely an upgrade all-around and most certainly on the cabinet size of just barely fitting where I need them to be placed. The driver is an upgrade from the EV1813 driver, even better Frequency Response and In-Room Extension. I would consider this sub to be the upgraded sweet spot in PSA's lineup. The amp is an IcePower 1920watts rms plate amp.
PSA TV2112: This is what I consider to be the big brother to the TV1813M as it has the same plate amp and driver except its a 21in so pushes more air and a very so slight increase in Frequency Response and In-Room Extension. What has held me back on this sub is the cabinet size and if I can somehow comfortably make room, I'm highly tempted to change my pre-order to this sub.
JTR Captivator 2400: JTR is right at the top of the best subwoofers made for personal home theaters. IMO, there is nothing to not like, except for the price and the industrial look that just doesn't lend itself to complimenting a living room/home theater room decor/atmosphere. I just don't want to spend an excessive amount of money on capabilities I'll never broach.
Arendal 1723 Subwoofer 2V: From what I've read from owners of this sub, they are quite pleased. My take on Arendal's subwoofers, they are what SVS was when SVS started getting traction in the subwoofer world, except with a bit of finesse and refinement. While I don't usually jump on board any new manufacturers products, I did with Arendal with there flagship speakers and this was after hearing very reputable reviews from those in the industry that I've grown to trust, not to mention their 10yr warranty. The subs have the same warranty except 5yrs on the sub amps. However their subs don't have the tactile response(what I understand to be not only hearing that low end but feeling it as well) that the PSA's and JTR's have, and PSA and JTR have been around a good while with respected owners/engineers that have a history in specializing in subwoofer design.

So at the beginning of March I placed a pre-order for two PSA TV1813 subwoofers and was told to realistically expect a late June/early July delivery. Right before heading off to AXPONA 2023 in Chicago, I got an update from PSA that my timeline had been moved up a bit to late May because of a few pre-order changes/cancellations and the parts needed are now expected to be arriving sooner than expected. While the new timeline coincides with a 10day scheduled vacation off from work(this timing never happens for me), I'm still in the thought-mode of late June/early July and this still allows me to manage expectations and be pleasantly surprised when/if the new subwoofers arrive early. The more I read other's reviews on these PSA subwoofers, the more I realize I'm taking a two-steps forward approach(skipping ahead past the next upgrade to the one after that) to upgrading this time. I just hope my neighbors are going to understand my upgrade-itis after the new subwoofers arrive and I'm breaking them in!!!

It is really shocking how capable the PSA 18 inch subwoofers are. I have heard a single S3601 which was sealed with two 18 inch subs and a slightly weaker amp than yours. I compared it with dual PSA XV15 15 inch vented units at B'zilla's place. Even though I LOVE stereo subs and believe it's the only right way the single s3601 with two 18 inch cones ran rings around the dual XV15. They went way lower - I would say to the point of audibility. I could even hear them shaking the room without making sound. But also it didn't sound flabby going low. Maybe it was it being sealed, I don't know, but it produced full range sound that was really quick. Started and stopped on a dime - felt unreal. So you're doing the right thing. You might be surprised that the sealed version of your subs might really impress. If you selected vented due to power, have no fear the sealed 18's are insanely powerful and this was in a large living room - maybe 20 feet long.

I can only imagine what those two 18s will do; safe to assume you're in a concrete bunker like the rest of Florida is? lol

I’m surprised at how well I’ve patiently handled this preorder wait time, but I’ve used the time to catch myself up on what’s going on in the world of subwoofers and where it’s heading, as well as reacquaint myself with subwoofer basics. While I’ve pondered changing my preorder to a 21’, I’m finding their cabinets are just too unwieldy and take up too much space for not a lot of gain over the 18’s. I know many might say the same about the 18’s I pre-ordered, but they will just fit in the space I now have my ported SVS PB-12Plus’, so literally very little change of placement will occur as long as they measure well in the same space, if not I have a couple of backup placements in mind.

Waiting and the associated anticipation is by far the worse for me as well, so I can relate. The "bunker", as I referred to our home during the build process, was a combination of the concrete slab, concrete block walls, rebar through the blocks and tied into the slab, then each cell was filled with concrete. After the trusses were tied into the rebar and roof was complete, they added another inch or two of stucco to the outer walls.... hence why I referenced bunker above. For dual 18's with 3,840 / 8,600 total watts behind them, the bunker should survive... windows, sheetrock and furniture... probably another story.

Tom’s current line of pro-drivers are Italian made B&C. While I’ve not yet heard these before(a small leap of faith here), I’ve been assured from his AVS community of addicts that the PSA 18 & 21 subwoofers have what they call “Tactile Response”. Not only will I hear it, see and hear the physical rattling of structures around me, but actually feel it in my bones. About another week or so until Tom gets his containers of cabinets from overseas, and then my duals get assembled and shipped. Definitely still patiently, impatiently waiting!!!

Well it’s getting close!!! The first container of cabinets arrived at PSA three days early and mine are in this shipment. Tom had some last minute logistics hurdles to deal with, but looks like my dual TV1813M subwoofers will be assembled in the next 10-14 days and shipped out. When I get the e-mail to pay the remainder of my pre-order, then it’s just a matter of about three days until they ship. Looks like Christmas in early June!!!

Sooooo, I’m finally home from an unexpected long three week work trip, so I thought I’d update this thread. Looks like my dual subwoofers will be shipping later this week Thur/Fri through R&L Carriers and now it’s starting to feel like things are going to get real!!! I’ve heard mixed reviews about R&L, particularly their inability in the usage of a fork lift, so let’s hope my subwoofers make it to my home damage-free. Not sure of the transit time from northern Ohio to the Florida panhandle but hopefully it isn’t too long. I’ve only had one experience with this carrier and there were delays in receiving my current SVS subwoofers because they prefer to make multiple deliveries in an area (not just a single delivery)so they may wait a few extra days once the subwoofers get to my service area to make it worth their time. www.powersoundaudio.com/collections/subwoofers/products/tv1813m-newAmp: ICEpower® audio technology Amplifier Power: 1920 watts Inputs: Left and Right RCA Inputs: Left and Right XLR 12V Trigger On, Auto, Off selector Gain control Time delay(phase) control Crossover control Room size control Custom DSP(digital signal processing) enables superior engineering refinement CE and FCC approved; EMC and safety pre-approved Fully integrated amplifier and power supply with mains-converter and auxiliary-converter Patented HCOM modulation and control techniques for unparalleled audio accuracy Sound optimized soft clipping Soft start power up with mute/de-mute. I like the Top Gun: Maverick suggestion. I need to order Independence Day. I’m also thinking Midway, Edge of Tomorrow and World War Z. Any other suggestions?……maybe play them all back to back to back……..?
