Hello Everyone,
I was just wondering how the owners of the BasX-PT1 feel about their purchase. I am blown away by the features it offers for the price.
Kind of wish it had the typical metal remote but the one you get works OK
Its also nice to be able to read the screen from across the room, Bluetooth works well and the bass management feature is a surprised welcome.
Anyone have any comment on the great little preamp?

Waiting on mine to be delivered. Also ordered the BasXA2 to go along with it. Gotta question. I am going to use the crossover sub outputs to connect to my sub. Should I make the connection to the L and R inputs or the mono input on the sub?
If I use the L and R inputs, what should I set the subs crossover to? Sound to be provided by a pair of Elac UniFi B52's. Thanks!

I think the BasX PT1 is the best preamplifier you can possibly buy for anything up to 5 or 10 times its price. I base that statement not on available features, but rather on absolute sound quality. Over the past decade, the performance for price ratio on ALL audio electronics has improved by an amazing amount, and Emotiva has, IMHO, been a company that has been at the forefront of offering improved sound quality in their products while keeping prices essentially static.
All that said, I can't comment on Emotiva's home theater products because I haven't heard them, so my kudos apply to the PT1 and the BasX mono and stereo power amplifiers only. The HT gear may be as good (but it might not) - I just don't know.
Do I have things that I'd like to have on the PT1 that aren't there? Sure! If I could have my dream PT1, I'd include:
Silver faceplate Choice of fixed bass management turnover points (60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz) Balanced circuitry Room correction Volume-controlled, full-range mono out for subwoofers (for those who don't want to use the built in bass management)
But the PT1 is what it is, and it's one of the best bargains in audio that I've ever seen or heard. I'm not letting mine go. I may go through spells where I don't use it, but it's too good to sell. I park it in the closet until the next time that I'll want it (and I WILL eventually want it again). Enjoy your PT1 - I can't imagine anyone ever being disappointed with its value or sound quality.
Cordially - Boomzilla
Postscriptum - If I HAD to criticize something in the PT1, it would be the DAC. I'm currently using an Emotiva Stealth DC-1, and it has a deeper and wider soundstage than the DAC built into the PT1. But the Stealth DC-1 by itself cost more than the whole PT1, so it isn't a fair comparison. So if you're a digital music listener and want to upgrade the sound of your PT1, go buy a Black Ice Audio vacuum tube DAC. Don't want to spend that much? Try a used Auralic Vega. Still too much? Shop Schiit. But it sure would be nice if Emotiva would offer a Stealth DC-1 replacement...

That's fine for satellite speakers, but a lot of subs have trouble getting up to 100 Hz. without either distortion or roll-off. I'd say try the PT1's internal crossover first and see how you like it. If you don't, then you'll need to use a pair of "Y-splitters" on the full range outputs of the PT1. Route one of the Y branches to your power amps, route the other to the subwoofer. Then use the low-pass frequency dial on your sub to blend in the sub below the satellite speakers' natural roll-off.

Actually the internal bass management crossover on the PT1 is 90 Hz. And, to be fair, since the "standard default" for home theater subs is 80 Hz, most subs should not have a problem with that. (Although many people prefer to use a lower frequency if they have relatively capable main speakers.) Waiting on mine to be delivered. Also ordered the BasXA2 to go along with it. Gotta question. We had a prototype DC-2, which we showed at the last big Emofest we had here, but it never became a final product. However we DO finally have some new high-end DACs in the works... so stay tuned for that...I think the BasX PT1 is the best preamplifier you can possibly buy for anything up to 5 or 10 times its price. Love my PT1. It really is the sweet spot of price and performance in a simple, clean package with everything you need and nothing you don’t.
My only gripe is that the PT2 came out a year later. There’s several other products missing from the Emotiva catalog that they could have looked at (DAC, Headphine amp, new CD player, turntable, etc.), but apparently an upgraded PT1 less than a year after it was released, was more important. Depending on how Emotiva markets this, they’re going to cannibalize themselves with this. Just my $.02.
Yes, I’m salty. Yes, the PT1 is amazing and I’ll continue to sing it’s praises, despite the presence of the PT2.

Just looked over the new PT2 - the bass management flexibility is (almost) enough to make me upgrade from my PT1. Maybe the Bluetooth even works on the PT2?
But my PT1 is still sufficient to all my needs. It’s really rare for ME to say this, but I’m so happy with the preamp I’ve got that not even the PT2 tempts me to upgrade.
When anyone does get their new PT2, do please post your impressions.
Thanks - Boomzilla

I agree with Boomzilla, I really do not understand why they have decided to introduce another preamplifier which is, for all intents and purposes, pretty much identical, samedac, and I guess same analogue circuitry. Sure, bass management has improved and there is an additional setting for mc(as if hardcore mc listeners use an emotiva preamp..).. why?? I will be keeping my pt1 with Big Ego +, the internal dac is ok, but I tried the Big Ego via aux input and the soundstage just opened super wide, it wasn't even that marginal, great little dac.

I agree. I am setting up a TA1 for someone. I wish it had the HPF cutoff control because the fixed 90 Hz cutoff attenuates the nice low end of the T-Zero+ speakers, so it sounds best with HPF off. If there were adjustable HPF and LPF cutoffs, I think it could be better dialed in with the subwoofer LFE . At least, that's what I'm noticing.

Hi everyone, sorry to revive this old thread but i have a few questions - especially regarding the TA1 in comparison with the PT1: as far as i read on the product specs of the TA1 it seems to me it has the LPF and HPF cutoff just like the PT1 - or have i misunderstood the product specs? I recently bought a PT1 and paired it with a BasX A2 to replace my old Yamaha RX-797 receiver. This was powering a pair of Q Acoustics 3030i that go along with an SVS SB1000 Pro sub. What i can say is that i am absolutely delighted so far with the sound. I am however thinking of sending the PT1 back and get a TA1 instead (if it's the exact same thing as the PT1 and use it as a pre only for now). I'd do this because i have another set of speakers powered by an old Technics with pre out (also, the Yamaha has a pre out as well). So i could try and play with different setups (move the A2 to the other speaker set - towers - and use one of those as preamp and keep the TA1 to power the Q Acoustics). Question is, would this be a smart move or some components are different inside TA1/PT1? PS: the music source varies from digital streaming to also analog vinyl - so the phone input is important for me.

Yes, the TA1 has the exact same preamp section as the PT1. The TA1 also has the ability to send full-range or high pass to its internal amplifier section, while maintaining the LP, HP, and main outs as well. Take a look at the back of the TA1 compared to your PT1, and that should show what you need to know. (Or in other words, the PT1 is the TA1 without the integrated amplifier.)

I was wondering. I have my system setup now with the hypass filter outputs going to the basx a2 powering my klipsch rb81ii’s and I have the main outputs going to by 2 klipsch r112sw subwoofers. Is that going to cause a problem with the pt1?
