Just got my pre-ordered Steelbook version. Saw the movie in the theater and am anxious to try the disc but baseball is taking precedence. I don't anticipate any issues...

Been away, traveling for work this week, but received the BestBuy 4K steelbook version last Monday. Got home today and put it on, looks fantastic and sounds phenomenal, and no I haven’t experienced any dropouts using an Oppo UDP-203 or Panasonic DP-UB820. Like Scott, I will be having a viewing this weekend with friends that haven’t seen it yet, and I’m looking forward to seeing their jaws drop with my new 7.x.4 speaker setup. Oh yeah, the IMAX scenes are quite crisp and of the best I’ve seen to date. The video other-wise is REFERENCE quality, as well as the audio.

Watching the 4K disc tonight. Will report back; hopefully no issues since the theater will be nearly full with neighbors. Scott
Movie played flawlessly on the Oppo 205 (most recent firmware installed)
Audio was Doly True HD 7.1 output. Surprised there was no Atmos option on this one.
Picture quality was excellent and sound was dynamic but bass was a bit bloated during critical scenes like jets taking off (dramatic effect and all) I could've turned the subs down a bit to compensate but the effect was great. Scott

It played in Atmos on my 205. There was an English Atmos option in the settings. Atmos mix was one of the best I've heard.

I prefer physical over streaming when the audio matters, so I refrained from renting/buying this on streaming. I've been waiting for months for a physical release, and now that I finally picked up a copy on 4k UHD a couple of days ago, what do I do? I pop in Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. But tonight's the night. I'll have an empty house and up to 1500W RMS power to 3 subs waiting for me. I hope this one satisfies, unlike the last Tom Cruise bombastic movie I bought on 4k UHD, Edge Of Tomorrow, which had noticeably less output on the low-end compared to the blu-ray HD disc.

Well, I had a chance to rewatch this this afternoon and guess what? No audio dropouts at all so I am not sure what happened the first time.

IMAX is the way to go with this one if seeing in a theater! My disc is arriving next week. Not for me... Imax is too harsh sounding for my ears. I'm a musician and may be a bit sensitive to it, but the Imax harsh sounds make me grit my teeth. I've experienced this at multiple theaters over several years.

I've only been to an IMAX theater twice, same theater. The SPL was higher than I was expecting, but the sound quality was very good.

I just rented the Blu-ray from Redbox to watch tonight, I will post back later after watching with my results. Personally I will always choose a Blu-ray over streaming whenever possible for the better picture and sound.
Tonight's Science Fiction/Double Feature will be the original Top Gun then Top Gun Maverick.

With all the streaming, it’s refreshing watching a movie from a disc, sound is so much better. Perfect timing too as I rearranged my sub and reran Dirac.

I just watched both Top Gun & Top Gun Maverick and as Lsc said "The sound is phenomenal", always love my Oppo 203.
I'm glad I watched Top Gun first as there were so many references to the first on Top Gun Maverick I would not have remembered otherwise as it's been a long, long time since I watched the original, both great movies!

I too had a viewing yesterday afternoon before my regular Saturday college football games. I also avoided the streaming versions to get what I have always known to be the best viewing from UHD-bluray media. This was most certainly a reference quality disc, enough so for two of my neighbors to have heard the beginning and came over to enjoy the movie with my friends. They all seem to prefer waiting on me to get the big blockbuster movies and having a viewing at my house for some reason.

A couple days ago I briefly joined the Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision FBook Group. So then about 40% of the posts were people talking about whether they liked or didn't like the new Top Gun Maverick Blu-Ray; 60% of the posts were people complaining that all anyone is posting about is the new Top Gun Maverick Blu-Ray. Then the Admin stepped in and said he was going to start deleting posts from people complaining about the other people's posts, especially if they were not being nice about it. Like I said ... briefly joined ...

So come Nov.1, we’ll do a double feature! Bought this remastered 3D rendering of the original movie last year and they did a nice job with it! View AttachmentWe watched this again last night since Maverick came in Saturday’s mail (for tomorrow). The remastered audio on Blu-ray was fantastic! (Those thundering jets)! The 3D rendering on this one though did little to impress, and I’m a huge bug on 3D films….probably would leave it off next time around.

I’ve seen it twice. 4k was good, streaming was constrained by streaming bandwidth. Volume was low to me as well, I had to boost volume somewhat, however I was pleased that the jet engine roars were not so horribly loud in comparison the the other audio. I’d say the disc was fine. We have to remember how spoilt we are.
