We just watched Top Gun Maverick at home. I thought the sound was terrible. Very muted to me. Granted we don't have a fantastic powerful system anymore but the sound was not clear and didn't seem to be surround if that makes sense.
Has anyone else had this issue or is just our system or maybe better adjustment on my part?

I've experienced something like this streaming a movie on the Apple TV HBO app vs other streaming services or blu-ray. The HBO app tended to be lower in volume, less dynamic range and somewhat muted highs. I actually measured the difference between the HBO app and iTunes versions of the Matrix movies. So, what service did you use to watch the Maverick movie?

This is why I tend to wait on the physical media to be released. I had highly considered renting this movie on the AppleTV platform, and it shows it offering it in Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos, and while I’ve had really great experiences with their exclusive content, I don’t want to ruin my experience with this movie from when I saw it in the local AMC IMAX theater. In other words, I’ll be waiting until the November 1 4K uhd-bluray release that I’ve pre-ordered.

I got busy this summer and missed the IMAX presentation, but my home system is all dialed in for Nov.

Same here. Saw it at Imax. Waiting on preorder to come in. Running same front speakers as when watching original Top Gun release on VHS ...JBL 4312s. 35+ years ago, neighbor from apartment next door would always see me next day and comment about knowing my roommate and I watched Top Gun because all the crap fell off of their wall. LOL. 15“ passive sub and JBLs powered by a 200wpc Carver amp, and Cerwin Vega 10“ 2 way speakers hung from ceiling powered by a Yamaha AVC50. Guess center channel came along later. The good ol days....

So come Nov.1, we’ll do a double feature! Bought this remastered 3D rendering of the original movie last year and they did a nice job with it!

We'll likely be streaming tonight with the recently purchased Nvidia Shield 4K Pro. I'll report back on the sound quality.

I cannot watch IMAX movies anymore, the sound is always too harsh and brittle in the treble region. Will choose the Dolby presentation over IMAX every time. We loved the Dolby presentation of Maverick at our local Cinemark theater. Can't wait to see/hear it in our home setup.

I got our version through Apple TV and played it through the Nvidia Shield and it looked and sounded fantastic. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos both active. It was several orders of magnitude better than the first movie which was great in it's own time. I will say that the volume seems to be lower than most movies but cranking it by about 4 to 6dB took care of that. No complaints.

I just watched this on Blu-ray and experienced occasional audio dropouts. Did anyone else have this problem?

Doesn't surprise me at all. Streams are bandwidth constrained and does that affect the audio? Maybe, maybe not, but it something to consider. Plus more compression than say a Blue Ray. Of course there is always Kaleidescape with their Mezzanine files that not compressed so they say. Insane money. Saw it once. Yeah, makes you wonder what happened to everything else. www.kaleidescape.com/

When this was out in the IMAX theaters, I was traveling and missed the opportunity to get there. Oh well…
Anyway, tonight or tomorrow we’re going to start a double feature we have the 3-D rendered copy of the original top gun first of course. Then number two when the thing shows up hopefully there will be no drop outs.

Just watched a couple clips of the disc ... Atmos mix is pretty cool!! Hopefully watching the whole thing Saturday or Sunday.

Watching the 4K disc tonight. Will report back; hopefully no issues since the theater will be nearly full with neighbors. Scott
